GB/T 5917 “Determination for feed particle size” contains two parts, Part 1 is the “Two-
sieve screening method”, and Part 2 is the “Geometric average particle size method”.
This part is Part 1 of GB/T 5917.
This Part replaces GB/T 5917-1986 “Determination for formula feed particle size”.
Compared with GB/T5917-1986, the main changes in this part are as follows:
--- The name of the standard is changed to “Determination of feed particle size -
Two-sieve screening method”;
--- A foreword is added;
--- The scope of application of the standard is expanded to compound feeds,
concentrated feeds, concentrate supplements, additive premix feeds, single feeds,
feed additives, etc.;
--- GB/T 6005, GB/T 6003.1, and GB/T 14699.1-2005 are cited;
--- It is stipulated that the quality of the test sieve shall meet the requirements of
GB/T 6005 and GB/T 6003.1;
--- It is stipulated that “according to the quality requirements of different feed
products and single feed, two standard test sieves of corresponding specifications,
a blind sieve (bottom sieve), and a sieve cover shall be selected”;
--- The amplitude, vibration frequency, and sieving movement mode of the electric
vibrating sieve machine are specified;
--- The determination steps are modified and the working conditions of manual
sieving are stipulated;
--- It is stipulated that the sieving method with an electric vibrating sieve machine is
the arbitration method;
--- The requirement that the allowable error of the twice tests shall not exceed 1% is
changed to “the error of twice tests of the mass of undersize material of the
second-layer sieve shall not exceed 2%”;
--- The chapters of the standard have been rewritten according to the essential
requirements of GB/T 20001.4.
Determination of feed particle size - Two-sieve screening
1 Scope
This part of GB/T 5917 specifies the two-sieve screening method for the determination
of the particle size of feed pulverization.
This part applies to the determination of the crushed particle size of compound feed,
concentrated feed, concentrate supplement, additive premixed feed, and single feed,
and can also be used for the determination of the crushed particle size of feed additives.
2 Normative references
The provisions in the following documents become the provisions of this part through
reference in this part of GB/T 5917. For the dated references, the subsequent
amendments (excluding corrections) or revisions do not apply to this part, however,
parties who reach an agreement based on this part are encouraged to study if the latest
versions of these documents are applicable. For undated references, the latest edition of
the referenced document applies to this part.

3 Principles
The specified standard test sieves are used to sieve the sample on the vibrating sieve
machine or manually, the mass of the material remaining on each layer of sieve is
measured, and then its percentage in the total mass of the sample is calculated.
