Visibility Conditions; -- Part 2. Position of Front and Side Windows and Other Windows for Driver’s Cabs of Locomotives. This Part is the first part of GB/T 5914. This Part was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009. This Part partly replaces GB 5914.1-2000, Visibility Conditions for Driver’s Cabs of Locomotives. Compared with GB 5914.1-2000, the major technical changes are as follows. -- it changes the nature of the standard from a national compulsory standard to a national voluntary standard; -- it modifies the application scope and deletes “multiple units and new stock used on international services” (see Article 1; Article 1 of GB 5914.1-2000); -- it adds the normative references, GB/T 10000 and GB/T 12985 (see Article 2 and 3.2.2); -- it deletes that “multiple units shall also carry two thirds of rated load” (see GB 5914.1-2000, 3.1.2); -- it deletes “or multiple units” in GB 5914.1-2000 (see 5914.1-2000, 3.2.1); -- it modifies the requirements and illustration for the reference position of the driver’s eyes (see 3.2.2; GB 5914.1-2000, 3.2.2); -- it modifies the visibility requirements for high signals, changing the position requirements from “10 m or more” into “10 m and more” (see 4.1; GB 5914.1- 2000, 4.1); -- it modifies the visibility requirements for low signals, changing the position requirements from “within 15 m” into “15 m and more” (see 4.2; GB 5914.1-2000, 4.2). This Part was redrafted by referring to UIC 617-7.1964, Regulations Concerning Conditions of Visibility from Driving Compartments of Electric Powered Stock, and UIC 625-6.1963, Regulations Concerning Conditions of Visibility from Driving Compartments of Combustion-engined Powered Stock; this Part is non-equivalent to UIC 617-7.1964 and UIC 625-6.1963. Driver’s Cab for Locomotives – Part 1. Visibility Conditions1 Application ScopeThis Part specifies conditions of visibility for each running direction along straight track and on curves with a radius of not less than 300 m. This Part applies to driver’s cab of electric locomotives and combustion-engined locomotives; this Part does not apply to driver’s cab of shunting locomotives. This Part can work as a reference for other rolling stock having a driver’s cab.2 Normative ReferencesThe following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document.
