Technical specification of daily protective mask1 ScopeThis Standard specifies the terms and definitions, grading, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marking, storage and transportation requirements of daily protective masks. This Standard applies to protective masks wore in the daily life to filter out particulate matters in the air pollution environment. This Standard does not apply to respiratory protection products used in hypoxic environments, underwater operations, escaping, fire protection, medical and industrial dust prevention and other special industries, nor for respiratory protection products for infants and children.2 Normative referencesThe following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. [GB 3095-2012, definition 3.4] 3.2 Filter efficiency Under the specified conditions, the ability of the mask body to filter out particulate matters, expressed as percentages. 3.3 Particle protective performance Under the specified conditions, the ability of the mask to block particulate matters, expressed as percentages.4 GradingThe particle protective performance of masks is divided from high to low into Grade A, Grade B, Grade C and Grade D; the ambient air quality to which each grade of masks is applicable is as shown in Table 1.All grades of masks shall be able to reduce the concentration of inhaled particulate matters (PM2.5) to ≤ 75 μg/m3 (the ambient air quality index category is good or above) in the corresponding air pollution environment.5 Technical requirements5.1 Basic requirements 5.1.1 The mask shall be able to securely protect the mouth and nose. 5.1.2 The raw material of masks shall not be recycled materials and highly toxic, carcinogenic or potentially carcinogenic substances and materials that can cause skin irritation or other adverse reactions. Residues of other restricted substances shall meet the relevant requirements; the raw material of masks shall be no odor. 5.1.3 The mask shall not have sharp corners and sharp edges and shall not cause damage to the wearer. 5.1.4 The mask shall be easy to be wore and taken off. In the process of wearing, there shall be no obvious sense of oppression or tenderness, and be small impact to head activities. NOTE. See Annex C for wear environments and precautions of masks. 5.2 Appearance requirements The mask surface shall be no damages, oil stains, deformations and other obvious defects. 5.3 Intrinsic quality The requirements for intrinsic quality are as shown in Table 2. 5.4 Filter efficiency According to the filter efficiency, the mask is divided into. Grade I, Grade II and Grade III. The corresponding indicators of each grade is as shown in Table 3. 5.5 Particle protective performance 5.5.1 The particle protective performance requirement for masks of different particle protective performance grades is as shown in Table 4. 5.5.2 When the particle protective performance of the mask is Grade A, the filter efficiency shall be Grade II and above; when the particle protective performance of the mask is Grade B, Grade C or Grade D, the filter efficiency shall be Grade III and above.6 Test methods6.1 Visual inspection EXTRACT of 10 masks, INSPECT them using visual inspection method. The inspection light is subject to normal natural light; if fluorescent lighting is used, the illumination shall be not less than 400 lx. 6.2 Color fastness to rubbing TEST according to the specifications of GB/T 29865.For color fastness to dry rubbing, the outer layer of the mask is tested; for color fastness to wet rubbing, the layer of the mask contacting with human face is tested. 6.3 Formaldehyde content TEST according to the specifications of GB/T 2912.1. 6.4 pH value TEST according to the specifications of GB/T 7573.The sample is cut from the layer of the mask contacting with human face. 6.5 Decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amine dyes TEST according to the specifications of GB/T 17592 and GB/T 23344. NOTE. In general, test according to GB/T 17592 first, when aniline and/or 1,4- phenylenediamine are detected, test according to GB/T 23344. 6.6 Ethylene oxide residues According to the product identification, the mask treated with ethylene oxide is tested according to the specifications of Clause 9 in GB/T 14233.1-2008.TAKE a parallel sample to test, and the sample is cut from the mask body. If one of the test results is qualified, and another test result is unqualified, the mean is not calculated; it shall resample to test, and the highest value is taken as the test result. The calculation result is expressed as relative content, accurate to one decimal place. 6.7 Inspiratory resistance 6.7.1 Sample and pretreatment 4 samples, of which 2 are untreated samples and the other 2 are samples pretreated according to A.3.2 of Annex A. If the test sample has different models, each model shall have 2 samples, of which 1 is untreated sample and the other is a sample pretreated according to A.3.2. 6.7.2 Testing equipment 6.7.2.1 The inspiratory resistance testing device consists of the test head model’s respiratory tube, pressure measuring tube, micro-pressure meter, flow meter, regulating valve, switching valve, air pump, air compressor. See Figure 1. Key. 6.7.2.2 The flowmeter range is 0 L/min ~ 100 L/min, and the accuracy is 3 %. 6.7.2.3 The micro-pressure meter range is 0 Pa ~ 1 000 Pa, and the accuracy is 1 Pa. 6.7.2.4 Test head model. A respiratory tube is installed in the test head model’s mouth; the main dimension of the head model shall comply with the requirements of Annex B; according to the dimension, it is divided into 3 models, i.e. large, medium and small. 6.7.2.5 The pumping capacity of the air pump shall be not less than 100 L/min. 6.7.3 Testing condition The ventilation capacity is constant at (85 ± 1) L/min. 6.7.4 Test methods CHECK the airtightness and working condition of the testing device. ADJUST the ventilation capacity to (85 ± 1) L/min and SET the system resistance of the testing device to 0. WEAR the test sample on the matching test head model, ADJUST the wear position and the tightness of the headband of the mask, to ensure that the mask is in close contact with the test head model. ADJUST the ventilation capacity to (85 ± 1) L/min, MEASURE and RECORD the inspiratory resistance. During the test, TAKE appropriate measures to avoid attaching the sample to the respiratory tube. 6.8 Expiratory resistance 6.8.1 Sample and pretreatment The requirements are the same as those of 6.7.1. 6.8.2 Testing device 6.8.2.1 The testing device of expiratory resistance is as shown in Figure 1. 6.8.2.2 The flowmeter is the same as that of 6.7.2.2. 6.8.2.3 The micro-pressure meter is the same as that of 6.7.2.3. 6.8.2.4 The dimension of the test head model is the same as that of 6.7.2.4. 6.8.2.5 The ventilation capacity of the air compressor shall be not less than 100 L/min. 6.8.3 Testing condition The requirements are the same as those of 6.7.3. 6.8.4 Test method CHECK the airtightness and working condition of the testing device. ADJUST the ventilation capacity to (85 ± 1) L/min and SET the system resistance of the testing device to 0. WEAR the test sample on the matching test head model, ADJUST the wear position and the tightness of the headband of the mask, to ensure that the mask is in close contact with the test head model. ADJUST the ventilation capacity to (85 ± 1) L/min, MEASURE and RECORD the expiratory resistance. During the test, TAKE appropriate measures to avoid attaching the sample to the respiratory tube. 6.9 Breaking strength of mask tie and the connection between mask tie and mask body 6.10 Expiratory valve cover fastness 6.10.1 Sample and pretreatment 3 untreated samples. 6.10.2 Testing device 6.10.2.1 Material testing machine, with the measuring range of 0 N ~ 1000 N, and the accuracy of 1 %. 6.10.2.2 Clamp with appropriate structure and fastness. 6.10.2.3 Timer with the accuracy of 0.1 s.7 Inspection rules7.1 Sampling Products of the same batch and the same specification (model) in delivery batch number are regarded as a test batch. Randomly extract the corresponding quantity of samples from each test batch according to the test requirements. When the delivery number of a same delivery batch is greater than 100 000, the number of samples is doubled. 7.2 Determination of quality 7.2.1 Determination of appearance quality The appearance quality is tested according to 6.1, at least 8 and more than 8 samples shall meet the requirements of 5.2.It is determined qualified if it meets the requirements of 5.2, otherwise it is determined unqualified.8 Packaging, marking, storage and transportation8.1 Packaging Each mask shall be sealed and packaged. 8.2 Marking Each package unit shall have an inspection certificate, and on the obvious part there shall be a clearly identifiable marking, which shall contain the following contents. a) manufacturer's name and address; b) product name; c) main raw materials (inner, outer, filter); d) implemented standard number; e) product’s particle protection performance grade; f) product specification (small, medium, large); g) instructions for use (wear methods, precautions, etc.); h) date of manufacture, recommended service time (hours) and storage period; i) if disinfection is adopted, disinfection shall be indicated. 8.3 Storage and transportation Products in the storage and transportation shall be sealed, no damage, no pollution, not damp, and be prevent from fire, rain, acid, alkali and direct light.Annex A(normative) Test method for filter efficiency A.1 Scope This annex specifies the test method for the filter efficiency of masks. This annex applies to daily protective masks. A.2 Test principle GENERATE aerosol particles having a certain concentration and particle size distribution by the aerosol generator, and PASS them through the mask body at specific gas flow; USE appropriate particulate matter testing device to test the concentration of the particulate matter before and after passing through the mask body. The filter efficiency of the mask body on the particulate matter is evaluated by the percentage of particulate matter concentration decreases after the aerosol particles passing through the mask body. A.3 Sample and pretreatment A.3.1 TAKE 16 samples, DIVIDE into two groups; one group uses salt media to test, and one group uses oily media to test. 5 of each group are untreated samples and 3 are samples pretreated according to A.3.2. A.3.2 Temperature and humidity pretreatment A.3.2.1 Pretreatment equipment A.3.2.1.1 The technical performance of damp heat test chamber shall meet the requirements of GB/T 10586. A.3.2.1.2 The technical performance of high temperature test chamber shall meet the requirements of GB/T 11158. A.3.2.1.3 The technical performance of low temperature test chamber shall meet the requirements of GB/T 10589. A.3.2.2 Pretreatment method TAKE the sample from the original package, TREAT them in the following order. a) PLACE in the environment of (38 ± 2.5) °C and (85 ± 5) % relative humidity for (24 ± 1) h; b) PLACE in the dry environment of (70 ± 3) °C (24 ± 1) h; c) PLACE in in the environment of (-30 ± 3) °C for (24 ± 1) h. Before proceeding to each step, the sample temperature shall be returned to room temperature for at least 4 hours before further testing. After pretreatment, the sample shall be placed in a hermetic container and tested within 10 h. A.4 Test equipment A.4.1 Filter efficiency testing system for NaCl particulate matters The requirements for the filter efficiency testing system for NaCl particulate matters are as follows. a) the concentration of NaCl particulate matter is not more than 30 mg/m3, the count median diameter (CMD) is (0.075 ± 0.020) μm, and the geometric standard deviation of particle size distribution is not more than 1.86; b) the dynamic range of particulate matter testing is 0.001 mg/m3 ~ 100 mg/m3, with the accuracy of 1 %. c) the testing flow rate range is 30 L/min ~ 100 L/min, with the accuracy of 2 %; d) the testing range of filter efficiency is 0 ~ 99.999 %; e) it shall have device for neutralizing the charge of the particulate matter. ......Source: Above contents are excerpted from the full-copy PDF -- translated/reviewed by: www.ChineseStandard.net / Wayne Zheng et al.
