This Standard replaces GB/T 6369-1986 “Surface active agents -
Determination of emulsifying power - Colorimetric method”.
The main differences between this Standard and the previous version:
- ADD the foreword.
- ADD a Clause on instruments and equipment (see Clause 4).
- ADD a Clause on test report (see Clause 7).
This Standard was proposed by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry
Federation.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee

emulsifying power - Colorimetric method
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the method for determination of emulsifying power of
surface active agents using colorimetric method.
This Standard applies to the determination of emulsifying power of effluent oil
treatment agents.
2 Principle
The emulsifier and the oil with color are thoroughly mixed at a certain ratio, then
added to water, and shaken to form an emulsion. After standing until the layers
are formed, the oil in the emulsified layer is extracted with a solvent. Determine
the optical density value of the extract. Find the corresponding amount of
emulsified oil from the working curve, and calculate the emulsifying power.
3 Reagents
3.1 Trichloromethane: chemically pure.
3.2 Fuel oil: (marine internal combustion engine fuel oil) viscosity of 100 mPa · s
~ 500 mPa · s, density (20 °C) of 0.8872 g/cm3.
3.3 Distilled water: pH 7 ~ 8.
3.4 Anhydrous sodium sulfate: chemically pure.
4 Instruments and equipment
4.1 Spherical separatory funnel: capacity of 60 mL.
4.2 Pipette: 10 mL, 20 mL, 25 mL.
4.3 Volumetric flask: 25 mL, 50 mL, 100 mL.
4.4 Graduated beaker: capacity of 50 mL.
