1 Scope

This Standard specifies the order content, dimension, shape, weight, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging and quality certification for seamless steel tube. This standard applies to the seamless steel tubes for mechanical structural purposes and general engineering structural purposes.

3 Order Contents

For the contracts or orders which order the steel tubes in accordance with this Standard, they shall include the followings. a) Standard number; b) Product name; c) Designation of the steel. If any, quality grade shall be included; d) Specifications for dimensions; e) Quantity of order (total weight or total length); f) Delivery status; g) Special requirements.

4 Dimensions, Shape and Weight

4.1 Outside Diameter and Wall Thickness Steel tube’s nominal outside diameter (D) and nominal wall thickness (S) shall comply with the provisions of GB/T 17395.According to the requirements of the requester, after the negotiation of both supply-demand parties, steel tubes in other outside diameters and wall thickness can be supplied. 4.2 Allowable Deviation of Outside Diameter and Wall Thickness 4.2.1 Allowable deviation of steel tube’s outside diameter shall comply with the requirements of Table 1. 4.2.2 Allowable deviation of hot rolled (expanding) steel tube’s wall thickness shall comply with the requirements of Table 2. 4.2.3 Allowable deviation of cold drawn (rolled) steel tube’s wall thickness shall comply with the requirements of Table 3. 4.2.4 According to the requirements of the requester, which shall be indicated in the contract, after the negotiation of both supply-demand parties, for the steel tube whose allowable deviation is outside the scope of the dimension in Table 1, Table 2 and Table 3, it can be supplied. 4.3 Length 4.3.1 Usual Length Usual length of steel tube is 3000mm~12000mm. According to the requirements of the requester, after the negotiation of both supply-demand parties, for the steel tube which is outside the scope of usual length, it can be supplied. 4.3.2 Range Length According to the requirements of the requester, which shall be indicated in the contract, after the negotiation of both supply-demand parties, steel tubes can be delivered according to range length. 4.3.3 Specified Length and Multiple-length 4.3.3.1 According to the requirements of the requester, which shall be indicated in the contract, after the negotiation of both supply-demand parties, steel tubes can be delivered according to specified length or multiple-length. 4.3.3.2 When steel tube is delivered by specified length or multiple-length, its length’s allowable deviation shall comply with the following requirements. a) When the length of specified length or multiple-length is not more than 6000mm, its allowable deviation is mm; b) When the length of specified length or multiple-length is greater than 6000mm, its allowable deviation is mm. 4.3.3.3 When steel tube is delivered by multiple-length, each multiple-length shall leave allowance for notch according to the following provisions. a) When D≤159mm, allowance for notch is 5mm~10mm; b) When D >159mm, allowance for notch is 10mm~15mm. After the negotiation of both supply-demand parties, for the steel tubes which have other allowances for notches, they can be supplied. 4.4 Bending Degree 4.4.1 Steel tube’s bending degree per meter shall comply with the requirements of Table 4. 4.4.2 Steel tube’s full-length bending degree shall not exceed 0.15% of steel tube’s total length. 4.5 Out-of-roundness and Uneven Wall Thickness According to the requirements of the requester, which shall be indicated in the contract, after the negotiation of both supply-demand parties, steel tube’s out-of-roundness and uneven wall thickness shall respectively not exceed 80% of the nominal outside diameter’s tolerance and nominal wall thickness’s tolerance. 4.6 Shape of End 4.6.1 For the steel tube whose nominal outside diameter is not more than 60 mm, tube end’s cut-oblique shall not exceed 1.5mm; for the steel tube whose nominal outside diameter is greater than 60mm, tube end’s cut-oblique shall not exceed 2.5% of tube end’s outside’s diameter, however, its maximum value shall not exceed 6mm. Steel tube’s cut-oblique is shown in Figure 1. 4.6.2 Burrs on steel tube’s end notch shall be removed.

5 Technical Requirements

5.1 Steel’s Designation and Chemical Composition 5.1.1 Designation and chemical composition (smelting analysis) of high-quality carbon structural steel shall comply with the provisions of GB/T 699. 5.1.2 Designation and chemical composition (smelting analysis) of low-alloy high-strength structural steel shall comply with the requirements of Table 5.Except that the quality grade is A, carbon equivalent of each designation shall comply with the requirements of Table 6.Carbon equivalent (CEV) shall be calculated, based on smelting analysis component, according to formula (1). 5.1.3 Designation and chemical composition (smelting analysis) of alloy structural steel shall comply with the provisions of GB/T 3077. Cut-oblique 5.1.4 According to the requirements of the requester, after the negotiation of both supply- demand parties, for the steel which has other designation and chemical composition, it can be supplied. 5.1.5 When the requester requests to conduct the finished-product analysis, it shall be indicated in the contract. Allowable deviation of finished-steel-tube’s chemical composition shall comply with the provisions of GB/T 222. 5.2 Manufacturing Methods 5.2.1 Smelting Method for Steel Steel shall be smelted by the method of electric arc furnace plus external-furnace-refining or oxygen converter plus external-furnace-refining. After the negotiation of both supply-demand parties, other methods which have higher requirements may also be used for smelting. When the requester specifies a certain smelting method, it shall be indicated in the contract. 5.2.2 Smelting Method for Tube Blank 5.2.2.1 Tube blanks can be manufactured by continuous casting, die casting or hot rolled (forging) 5.2.2.2 Continuous casting tube blanks shall comply with the provisions of YB/T 4149; hot rolled (forging) tube blanks shall comply with the provisions of YB/T 5221 or YB/T 5222; die casting tube blank can be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the hot rolled (forging) tube blank. 5.2.3 Manufacturing Method for Steel Tube Steel tube shall be manufactured by a hot rolled (expanding) or cold drawn (rolled) seamless method. When the requester specifies a certain manufacturing method for steel tube, it shall be indicated in the contract. 5.3 Delivery Status 5.3.1 Hot rolled (expanding) steel tubes shall be delivered in hot-rolled (expanding) or heat treatment status. When the requester specifies the delivery status of heat treatment status, it shall be indicated in the contract. 5.3.2 Cold drawn (rolled) steel tubes shall be delivered by annealing or high-temperature tempering. According to the requirements of the requester, which shall be indicated in the contract, after the negotiation of both supply-demand parties, cold drawn (rolled) steel tube can also be delivered by cold drawn (rolled) or other heat treatment status. 5.4 Mechanical Properties 5.4.1 Tensile Properties 5.4.1.1 For steel tubes of high-quality carbon structural steel and low-alloy high-strength structural steel, tensile properties of their delivery status shall comply with the provisions in Table 7. 5.4.1.2 For sample blank of alloy structural steel tube, conduct heat treatment on it according to the heat treatment system recommended in Table 8; made it into the sample; measure its tensile properties. The tensile properties shall comply with the requirements in Table 8. 5.4.1.3 For mechanical properties of steel tubes which is delivered by cold drawn (rolled) status, it shall be determined by both supply-demand parties. 5.4.2 Hardness For the alloy structural steel tubes, whose delivery is in annealing or high-temperature tempering status and whose wall thickness is not less than 5mm, its Brinell hardness shall comply with the requirements of Table 8. 5.4.3 Impact 5.4.3.1 For low-alloy high-strength structural steel tube, when its outside diameter is not less than 70mm and the wall thickness is not less than 6.5mm, longitudinal impact test shall be carried out. Its test temperature and impact energy of the Charpy V-notch impact test shall comply with the provisions of Table 7.For absorbed energy of impact, it shall be calculated by the arithmetic mean of the three samples from one group. Allow the single value of one sample to be lower than the specified value, but it shall not less than 70% of the specified value. 5.4.3.2 Impact absorbed energy in Table 7 is the required value of the energy, which is absorbed by the impact of standard-dimension sample’s Charpy V-notch. When steel tube’s dimension cannot prepare the standard-dimension sample, small-dimension sample can be prepared. When small-dimension impact-sample is adopted, its minimum required value of Charpy V- notch impact's absorbed energy shall be the value that required value of standard-dimension sample impact's absorbed energy multiply by the decreasing coefficient in Table 9.For the dimension of impact sample, larger dimension shall be selected preferentially. 5.4.3.3 According to the requirements of the requester, which shall be indicated in the contract, after the negotiation of both supply-demand parties, steel tube in other designation can also perform Charpy V-notch impact test. Its test temperature, test dimensions and impact’s absorbed energy shall be determined by the negotiation of both supply-demand parties. 5.5 Process Performance 5.5.1 Flattening For the designation - 10, 15, 20, 25, 20Mn, 25Mn, Q345 and Q390, the nominal outside diameter D is > 22mm ~ 600mm, and for the steel tube whose ratio of wall thickness and outside diameter is not more than 10%, flattening test shall be carried out. After the flattening for steel tube, distance between the flats shall comply with the requirements of Table 10.After flattening, no cracks or chinks shall appear on the sample. 5.5.2 Bending According to the requirements of the requester, which shall be indicated in the contract, after the negotiation of both supply-demand parties, for the steel tube whose outside diameter is not more than 22mm, it can perform bending test. The bending angle shall be 90°, and bending core’s radius shall be 6 times of steel tube’s outside diameter. After bending, no cracks or chinks shall appear on the bending location. 5.6 Surface Quality Inner and outer surfaces of steel tube shall not have visible cracks, folds, crusting, rolling and separation. These defects shall be completely cleaned out. Depth of cleaning place shall not exceed nominal wall thickness’s lower deviation. Actual wall thickness of the cleaning place shall not be less than the minimum allowed by the wall thickness. For other local imperfections which do not exceed wall thickness’s lower deviation, their existence is allowed.

6 Test Methods

6.1 Sampling for steel tube’s chemical composition analysis shall be carried out according to the rules of GB/T 20066.Chemical composition analysis shall usually be carried out according to GB/T 4336, GB/T 20123, GB/T 20124, GB/T 20125 or other common methods. Arbitration shall be performed based on the provisions of GB/T 223.5, GB/T 223.9, GB/T 223.11, GB/T 223.12, GB/T 223.14, GB/T 223.19, GB/T 223.23, GB/T 223.26, GB/T 223.37, GB/T 223.40, GB/T 223.59, GB/T 223.60, GB/T 223.62, GB/T 223.63, GB/T 223.68, GB/T 223.78, GB/T 223.84, GB/T 223.86 AND GB/T 20125. 6.2 For steel tube’s dimension and shape, they shall be measured by the measuring tool which meets the requirements for accuracy. 6.3 For steel tube’s inner and outer surfaces, they shall be visually inspected under adequate lighting conditions. 6.4 For sampling methods and test methods for steel tube’s other inspection items, they shall comply with the requirements of Table 11.

7 Inspection Rules

7.1 Inspection and Acceptance Inspection and acceptance of steel tubes shall be carried out by the supplier's quality and technical supervision department. 7.2 Rules of Lot Grouping 7.2.1 Steel tube shall be inspected and accepted in batch. 7.2.2 After being cut into single piece, if the steel tube is not performed with heat treatment anymore, for all tube sections which are taken from steel tubes rolled from the same tube blank, they shall be deemed as the same one. 7.2.3 For each batch, it shall be composed of the steel tube which has the same designation, same furnace number, same specification AND same heat treatment system (furnace No.). Quantity of each batch’s steel tubes shall not exceed the following provisions. a) The one whose outside diameter is not more than 76mm AND the wall thickness is not more than 3mm. 400 pieces. b) The one whose outside diameter is greater than 351mm. 50 pieces. c) The ones with other dimensions. 200 pieces. d) For the quantity of the remaining steel tubes, when it is not less than 50% of the above specified quantity, these steel tubes shall be separately listed as one batch; when the quantity is less than 50% of the above specified quantity, these steel tubes shall be merged into the adjacent batch of steel tube which has the same designation, same furnace number AND same specification. 7.3 Quantity of Samplings For sampling quantity for all tests of each batch’s steel tube, it shall comply with the provisions of Table 11. ......
