Quality Carbon Structural Steels1 ScopeThis Standard specifies classification and code, order information, size, appearance and weight, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marks and quality certificate of quality carbon structural steel bars. This Standard is applicable to hot-rolled or forged quality carbon structural steel bars of which nominal diameter or thickness is not greater than 250 mm. Determination of nitrogen content in steel and alloy inert gas fusion thermal conductivity method YB/T 5293 Metallic materials - Forging test3 Classifications and Code3.1 Steel bar is classified into two categories according to the processing method used. a) Steel for pressed work UP 1) Steel for hot pressed work UHP 2) Steel for upsetting work UF 3) Steel for cold drawn billet UCD b) Steel for cutting work UC 3.2 Steel bar is classified into five categories according to the type of surface. a) Pressure processing surface SPP b) Pickling surface SA c) Shot blasting surface SS d) Stripping surface SF e) Polishing surface SP4 Order InformationThe contracts or purchase orders ordered according to this Standard shall contain the following contents. a) Standard code number; b) Name of product; c) Designations or unified numerical code; d) Weight (quantity) of delivery; e) Dimension, appearance and allowance (see Clause 5); f) The processing method to be used (see cutting steel if not indicated); g) Heat treatment delivery or special surface state delivery (see 6.3.2 and 6.3.3 if required);5 Size, Appearance and Weight5.1 The size, appearance, weight and allowance of hot-rolled steel bars shall comply with relevant provisions in GB/T 702.Specific requirements shall be clearly stated in the contract.6 Technical Requirements6.1 Designations and Chemical Composition 6.1.1 Designations, unified numerical code and chemical composition (smelting analysis) of steels shall comply with Table 1. 6.1.2 The nitrogen content of steels smelted in oxygen-blown converters shall not be higher than 0.008%. If the supplier can guarantee the conformance, the analysis may be exempted. 6.1.3 The manganese content of 35~85 steels for lead-bath quenched steel wires shall be 0.30%~0.60%; the manganese content of 65 Mn and 70 Mn shall be 0.70%~1.00%; the chromium content shall not be higher than 0.10%, the nickel content shall not be higher than 0.15%, the copper content shall not be higher than 0.20%; the sulfur and phosphorus contents shall comply with the requirements of steel wire standards, but shall not be higher than the indexes in Table 1. 6.1.4 The allowance for chemical composition of steel bars (or billets) shall comply with the provisions in GB/T 222. 6.2 Smelting Method Unless otherwise specified in the contract, the smelting method shall be chosen by the manufacturer. 6.3 State of Delivery 6.3.1 Steel bars are normally delivered in the hot-rolled or hot-forged state. 6.3.2 It may also be delivered in the heat treated (annealed, normalized or high temperature tempered) based on buyer’s requirements and it shall be stated in the contract. 6.3.3 It may also be delivered with special surface sate (pickling, shot blasting, stripping, polishing) based on buyer’s requirements and it shall be stated in the contract. 6.4 Mechanical Properties 6.4.1 For test sample made of heat-treated (normalized) billet, the longitudinal tensile properties of steel bar shall comply with the provisions in Table 2.If the supplier can guarantee the conformance of tensile properties, the tests may be exempted.7 Test MethodsTest items and test methods of steel bar are shown in Table 7.8 Inspection Rules8.1 Inspections and Acceptance 8.1.1 Factory inspection and acceptance shall be carried out by the quality technical supervision department of the supplier. 8.1.2 The supplier must ensure that the steel bar delivered complies with the provisions of this Standard or of the contract. The buyer is entitled to make inspection or acceptance to any of the test items defined in this Standard or the contract if necessary. 8.2 Batch-group Rules Steel bar shall be inspected and accepted according to batch. Each batch consists of steel material with the same designation, the same furnace number, the same working method, the same size, the same delivery state, the same heat treatment system (or furnace lot). 8.3 Quantity and Location for Sampling The quantity and location for sampling of each batch of steel bar shall comply with the provisions in Table 7. 8.4 Re-inspection and Judging Rules 8.4.1 The re-inspection and judging rules shall be in compliance with provisions in standard GB/T 17505. 8.4.2 If the supplier can guarantee the conformance of the steel material, it is allowed to use billet to substitute material, or to use large pieces to substitute small pieces - for the same furnace (tank) steel-material or steel-billet’s macro- test, mechanical properties and non-metallic inclusion’s inspection result.9 Packaging, Marks and Quality CertificatePackaging, marks and quality certificates of the steel bar shall comply with the provisions of GB/T 2101. ......Source: Above contents are excerpted from the full-copy PDF -- translated/reviewed by: www.ChineseStandard.net / Wayne Zheng et al.
