Any divergence between the IEC recommendation and the corresponding national rules should, as far as possible, be clearly indicated in the latter. This publication has been prepared by Sub-Committee 50A, Shock and Vibration Tests, of IEC Technical Committee No. 50, Environmental Testing. A first draft was discussed at the meeting held in Stockholm in 1972.As a result of this meeting, a draft, document 50A (Central Office)138, was submitted to the National Committees for approval under the Six Months' Rule in March 1973. Free fall1 PurposeTo determine the adaptability of the product intended to fall due to rough loading-unloading during handling or to determine the minimum level of security required for safety.2 Test conditionsIt refers to the height between the test surface and the sample location closest to it when the test sample is suspended before falling. The method of releasing the test sample shall allow the test sample to fall freely from the suspended position. When releasing, minimize interference.3 Severity levelThe height of fall shall be selected from the following values. (25), 50, (100), 250, (500), (1000) mm. The values in parentheses are preferred values.4 Initial measurementVisual inspection, electrical properties and mechanical properties of the sample shall be performed according to relevant specification.5 Condition testUnless otherwise specified in the relevant specification, the test sample shall fall twice from each specified position.6 Final measurementTest samples shall be visually inspected, tested for electrical properties and mechanical properties in accordance with relevant specification.7 Information to be included in relevant specificationWhen the relevant specification adopts this test, the following information shall be given.8 PurposeTo determine the adaptability to repeated falls of cable-connected component device that may frequently fall to hard surface such as connector and small remote control.9 General descriptionThis test method is to make the test sample fall from the prescribed height to the hard surface by the prescribed number of times. In order to simulate actual conditions, each test sample shall be tested individually and shall usually have a segment of cable. The result of the test shall be assessed by the change in the mechanical and electrical properties of the test sample.10 Description of test equipmentAccording to the relevant specification requirements, the test equipment shall cause each test sample to fall from the prescribed height according to the specified number of times.
