Foreword

This standard equivalently adopts ISO 15305:1998 "Animal and vegetable fats and oils - Determination of Lovibond colour" (English version). For ease of use, this standard has also made the following editorial changes: -- Delete the foreword of the international standard; -- Change the term "this International Standard" to "this Standard"; -- Use decimal point "." to replace the comma "," in the original text, which acts as a decimal point. Compared with previous GB/T5525-1985 "Inspection of vegetable oils -- Methods for identification of transparency, colour, odour and taste", the main changes of this standard are as follows: -- For the Lovibond colorimeter method, ADD the method’s scope of application, principle, operator requirements, sampling, sample preparation, result presentation, precision, test report, and the applicable instruments of this method; -- DELETE the potassium dichromate solution colorimetry method. When adopting to use the standard color-value series prepared by strong acid, there are unsafe factors for this method. Due to the popularity of Lovibond colorimeter method, the potassium dichromate solution colorimeter method is no longer used in all oil and fat product standards. Appendix A of this standard is informative. This standard was proposed by the National Grain Administration. This standard shall be under the jurisdiction of the National Cereals and Oils Standardization Technical Committee. 1 Scope

This standard specifies the method for determination of Lovibond color for animal and vegetable fats and oils. This standard applies to the determination of the color of animal and vegetable fats and oils.

2 Normative references

3 Principle

The colour of the light transmitted through a known path length of liquid fat or oil is matched with the colour of the light originating from the same source transmitted through glass colour standards. The results are conventionally expressed in Lovibond units.
