Foreword

This Standard is drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009. This Standard replaces GB/T 18886-2002 “Textiles - Tests for fastness - Colour fastness to saliva”. As compared with GB/T 18886-2002, the main changes are as follows. - In “Normative references”, refer to GB/T 7568.1~7568.8 instead of the abolished GB 7564 ~ GB 7568 and GB 11404; ADD GB/T 6151, GB/T 6682, GB/T 13765, GB/T 32598, and GB/T 32616 (See Clause 2; Clause 2 of the 2002 edition). - ADD the tolerance of intensity of pressure for the test devices (See 4.1). - INCORPORATE “test solution preparation” into “Equipment and materials”; modify the formula composition of artificial saliva; ADD the control index and preparation method of artificial saliva pH (See Clause 4; Clause 7 of the 2002 edition). - In requirements for adjacent fabrics, ADD a note, that is. Other types of fibres may be used with reference to similar or alike fibres (See 4.4.2). - ADD some equipment and materials (See 4.7~4.11). - In “Operating procedures”, ADD a note, that is. A maximum of 10 combined samples can be placed simultaneously for each test device. Each sample is separated by a plate (11 pieces in total). If less than 10 samples, 11 plates are still used, to keep the pressure constant (See 6.1). - ADD placement method of the combined sample (See 6.2). - ADD an optional method of instrumental assessment of change in colour of the sample and staining of the adjacent fabric (See 6.4). - In “Test report”, ADD items a), b), d), e), f), and g); ADD the instrument assessment result and the indication of assessment method to item c) (See Clause 7). This Standard was proposed by China National Textile and Apparel Council. This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee 209 on Textiles of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 209). Drafting organizations of this Standard. 3 Principle

Attach the sample to the prescribed adjacent fabric. After being treated in artificial saliva, REMOVE the excess test solution; PLACE between two flat plates in the test device and apply a prescribed intensity of pressure; KEEP under a prescribed condition for a certain period of time. Then, DRY the sample and the adjacent fabric respectively; USE a grey scale or an instrument to assess the change in colour of the sample and the staining of the adjacent fabric.

4 Equipment and materials

4.1 Test devices Each set of test devices consist of a stainless-steel frame and a heavy hammer of about 5 kg in mass and 115 mm×60 mm in bottom area; and a glass plate or acrylic acid resin plate of about 115 mm×60 mm×1.5 mm in size. When the combined sample of (100±2)mm×(40±2)mm is sandwiched between the plates, the combined sample may be subjected to an intensity of pressure of (12.5±0.9)kPa. The structure of the test devices shall be such that the intensity of pressure applied to the sample remains unchanged after the heavy hammer is removed during the test. If the size of the combined sample is not (100±2)mm×(40±2)mm, the nominal intensity of pressure applied to the sample by the heavy hammer used shall be (12.5±0.9)kPa. Other devices which can achieve the same result can be used. 4.2 Thermostat KEEP the temperature at (37±2) °C. 4.3 Artificial saliva 4.3.1 Formula composition The reagents used are chemically pure. USE Grade 3 water (4.12) to prepare the test solution. Prepared when used. Each liter of test solution contains. Magnesium chloride hexahydrate (MgCl2 • 6H2O) 0.17 g Calcium chloride dihydrate (CaCl2 • 2H2O) 0.15 g Dipotassium hydrogen phosphate trihydrate (K2HPO4 • 3H2O) 0.76 g Potassium carbonate (K2CO3) 0.53 g Sodium chloride (NaCl) 0.33 g Potassium chloride (KCl) 0.75 g USE hydrochloric acid solution with a mass fraction of 1% to adjust the pH of the test solution to 6.8±0.1. 4.3.2 Preparation method DISSOLVE the prescribed amount of sylvite and sodium salts in 900 mL of Grade 3 water (4.12); ADD magnesium chloride and calcium chloride and stir until they are completely dissolved. Immerse the calibrated pH meter (4.11) electrode in the solution; ADD slowly 1% hydrochloric acid solution; STIR gently to make the solution pH reach 6.8±0.1.ADD Grade 3 water (4.12) to dilute to 1000 mL; SHAKE well and store in the dark. 4.4 Adjacent fabric (See GB/T 6151) Choose any one of 4.4.1 and 4.4.2. 4.5 Grey scale for assessing change in colour shall conform to the provisions of GB/T 250. 4.6 Grey scale for assessing staining shall conform to the provisions of GB/T 251. 4.7 The colorimeter or colour difference meter for assessing change in colour and staining shall comply with the provisions of GB/T 32616 and GB/T 32598. 4.8 Balance. The division value is 0.01 g. 4.9 A set of 11 glass or acrylic acid resin plates. 4.10 Corrosion-resistant flat-bottomed container. 4.11 pH meter. The measurement accuracy is at least accurate to 0.1.

5 Samples

5.1 For fabric samples, according to one of the following methods, prepare a sample. a) TAKE a piece of sample of (100±2)mm×(40±2)mm; CONTACT the front to a piece of (100±2)mm×(40±2)mm multifibre adjacent fabric (4.4.1). Sew along a short side to form a combined sample. b) TAKE a piece of sample of (100±2)mm×(40±2)mm and sandwich it between two (100±2)mm×(40±2)mm single-fibre adjacent fabrics (4.4.2). Sew along a short side to form a combined sample. 5.2 For yarn or loose-fibre samples, the mass of yarn or loose fibre taken is approximately equal to half the total mass of the adjacent fabric. According to one of the following methods, prepare a combined sample.

6 Operating procedures

6.1 At room temperature, the combined sample is placed flat in a flat-bottomed container (4.10). Inject artificial saliva (4.3) to completely wet it at a bath ratio of 50.1.PLACE it at room temperature for 30 min. From time to time, PRESS down and stir, to ensure that the test solution can penetrate fully and evenly. TAKE the sample out; POUR off residual solution; USE a suitable method (such as two glass rods) to clip the excess test solution off the combined sample. The combined sample is placed flat between two glass or acrylic acid resin plates (4.9) and placed in test devices (4.1) to be pressurized (12.5±0.9)kPa. Note. A maximum of 10 combined samples can be placed simultaneously for each test device. Each sample is separated by a plate (11 pieces in total). If less than 10 samples, 11 plates are still used, to keep the pressure constant. 6.2 PLACE the test devices (4.1) with the combined sample in the thermostat (4.2); HOLD at (37±2)°C for 4 h; PLACE the test devices (4.1) horizontal (Figure 1) or vertical (Figure 2).

7 Test report

The test report shall include the following. a) This Standard’s number; b) Sample description; c) Assess the level of change in colour of the sample and indicate the assessment method (eye method or instrument method); d) For single-fibre adjacent fabrics, assess the staining level and indicate the assessment method (eye method or instrument method); e) For multifibre adjacent fabric, assess the staining level of each fibre; indicate the type of multifibre adjacent fabric used and the assessment method (eye method or instrument method); f) The state of placement of the sample in the thermostat (horizontal or vertical); g) Any deviation from the details of this Standard. ......
