Foreword

GB/T 12008 Plastics - Polyether Polyols is divided into 7 parts. ---Part 1.Designation System; ---Part 2.Specification; ---Part 3.Determination of Hydroxyl Number; ---Part 4.Determination of Sodium and Potassium; ---Part 5.Determination of Acidity as Acid Number; ---Part 6.Determination of Degree of Unsaturation; ---Part 7.Determination of Viscosity. This is Part 5 of GB/T 12008.It modifies and adopts ASTM D 7253-2006 Standard Test Method for Polyurethane Raw Materials. Determination of Acidity as Acid Number for Polyether Polyols. In comparison with ASTM D 7253-2006, this Part mainly makes the following technical modifications. ---Chapter 12 “Precision and Bias” of ASTM D 7253-2006 is taken as informative appendix A; ---Key Words is deleted; Test Report is added. For ease of use, this Standard also makes the following editorial modifications. ---The title of the standard is modified; ---Foreword of ASTM D 7253-2006 is deleted; Foreword of Chinese standard is added; ---Chapter 2 “References” is modified into “Normative References”; ---Chapter 3 “Terms” is modified into “Terms and Definitions”. This Part serves as a replacement of GB/T 12008.5-1989 Polyether Polyols - Determination of Acid Number. In comparison with GB/T 12008.5-1989, this Part has the following main changes. ---The title of the standard is modified; ---The standard titration solution is potassium hydroxide - methanol solution (5.1 of Edition 1989; 8.4 of this edition); ---The specimen is dissolved with isopropanol (7.2 of Edition 1989; 9.1 of this edition). Appendix A of this Part is informative. This Part was proposed by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. This Part shall be under the jurisdiction of Plastic Resin General Methods and Products Subcommittee of National Technical Committee 15 on Plastic of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 15 / SC 4). Plastics - Polyether Polyols - Part 5.Determination of Acidity as Acid Number

1 Scope

1.1 The test method specified in this Part of GB/T 12008 is used to determine the acidic components in polyether polyols, and the result is expressed in acid number. The typical acid number (calculated by the amount of consumed KOH) ranges from 0 to 0.1 mg/g. 1.2 This Part does not involve any safety issues associated with the application. Before use, the user is responsible for establishing appropriate safety and health measures and determining the scope of application of management restrictions.

2 Normative References

3 Terms and Definitions

What is determined in ASTM D 883, and the following terms and definitions are applicable to this Part.

4 Principle

The specimen is dissolved in isopropanol. Take phenolphthalein as an indicator. At room temperature, use 0.02 mol/L potassium hydroxide - methanol standard titration solution to titrate to the end point of the indicated color change (pink).

5 Importance and Application

The test method of this Part is applicable to the quality control of product inspection and scientific research. The acid number indicates the degree of neutralization reaction between the polyol and the acid.

6 Interference

Dark specimens may interfere with or hinder the application of this method.

7 Instruments

7.1 Burette. 10 mL, manual or automatic. 7.2 Measuring cylinder. 100 mL. 7.3 Balance. accurate to 0.1 mg.

8 Reagents and Materials

8.1 Reagent purity. potassium hydroxide is of top-grade purity; isopropanol and methanol are of analytical purity. 8.2 Isopropanol. 8.3 Phenolphthalein indicator solution. 1 g of phenolphthalein is dissolved in 100 mL of methanol.

9 Steps

9.1 Add (100 ± 20) mL of isopropanol (8.2) and 1 mL of phenolphthalein indicator solution (8.3) to the conical flask (7.4). 9.2 Use 0.02 mol/L potassium hydroxide - methanol standard titration solution (8.4) to titrate to light pink and maintain for 30 s. 9.3 Weigh-take 50 g ~ 60g of specimen in the above-mentioned conical flask. Record the mass of the specimen, accurate to 0.1 g.

10 Calculation and Expression of Results

10.1 The acid number C of the specimen, which is calculated by the amount of consumed KOH and expressed in (mg/g), shall be calculated in accordance with Formula (1).

11 Report

The report result (calculated by the amount of consumed KOH) is accurate to 0.001 mg/g.

12 Precision and Bias

There is no relevant accuracy data for this Standard. NOTE. please refer to Appendix A for the precision data of the advanced foreign standard ASTM D 7253-2006 adopted in this Standard.

13 Test Report

The test report shall include the following contents. ......
