Foreword

The four indexes in Chapter 5, namely heavy metals, arsenic, lead and mercury, AND Chapter 8 of this Standard are mandatory; while others are recommended. This Standard is drafted according to the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009. This Standard was proposed by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of the Inorganic Chemical Subcommittee of National Technical Committee for Standardization of Chemistry (SAC/TC 63/SC 1). 1 Scope

This Standard specifies the classification, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marks, labels, packaging, transportation and storage of the titanium dioxide for cosmetic use. This Standard is applicable to the titanium dioxide powder mainly used as cosmetic raw materials.

4 Classification and types

4.1 Classification Titanium dioxide for cosmetic use is classified into two categories. Class I, without any surface treatment; Class II, with surface treatment. 4.2 Types Class I titanium dioxide for cosmetic use is divided into anatase type (A) and rutile type (R). 4.3 Specifications All types of Class II titanium dioxide for cosmetic use are divided into two specifications. hydrophilic and oleophilic.

5 Requirements

5.1 Appearance. white powder. 5.2 Titanium dioxide for cosmetic use shall respectively conform to the requirements in Tables 1 and 2.

6 Test method

6.1 Safety instructions Some of the agents used in this test method are toxic or corrosive. Be cautious during operations! DETERMINE afterwards. 6.6 Determination of the titanium dioxide content - aluminum reduction method 6.6.1 Method summary Same as the Section 7.1.1 of GB/T 1706-2006. 6.6.2 Reagents and materials Same as the Section 7.1.2 of GB/T 1706-2006. 6.6.3 Instruments and equipment Same as the Section 7.1.3 of GB/T 1706-2006. 6.7 Determination of the loss on drying Same as the Section 7.2 of GB/T 1706-2006.DRY for 3h. KEEP the specimens for the determination of the loss on ignition. 6.8 Determination of the loss on ignition 6.8.1 Instruments and equipment High-temperature furnace. The temperature shall be controlled at 800°C ± 25°C. 6.10 Determination of the heavy metal content 6.10.1 Method summary Same as the Chapter 2 of GB/T 5009.74-2003. 6.10.2 Reagents 6.10.2.1 Hydrochloric acid. 1 + 19. 6.10.2.2 Acetic acid solution. 1 + 19. 6.10.2.3 Other reagents are the same with those in the Chapter 3 of GB/T 5009.74-2003. 6.10.3 Instruments and equipment Same as the Chapter 4 of GB/T 5009.74-2003. 6.10.4 Analysis procedures 6.11 Determination of the arsenic content TAKE 10mL of test solution A (6.10.4.1). Other operations are the same with those in the Chapter 1 of GB/T 7917.2-1987. 6.12 Determination of the lead content TAKE 10mL of test solution A (6.10.4.1). Other operations are the same with those in the Chapter 1 of GB/T 7917.3-1987. 6.13 Determination of the mercury content TAKE 1mL of test solution A (6.10.4.1). Other operations are the same with those in the Chapter 5 of GB/T 7917.1-1987. 6.14 Determination of the pH values Same as the Section 7.8 of GB/T 1706-2006. 6.15 Whiteness determination 6.15.1 Instruments and equipment 6.15.2 Analysis procedures USE the periodically calibrated white standard plate for correcting the white standard working plate. USE a white standard working plate for adjusting the whiteness meter to the operating mode. Evenly PLACE the test samples in a powder dish. ENSURE that the test samples are about 2cm higher than the powder dish. USE a bright and clean glass plate to cover on the surface of the test samples. COMPRESS the test samples. Slightly ROTATE the test samples afterwards. REMOVE the glass plate. Or USE a constant pressure powder sampler for pressure sampling. OBSERVE the surface of the test samples along the horizontal direction. There shall be no abnormal situations, such as bumps, defects, spots, etc. 6.16 Fineness determination The fineness (< 45μm) determination is the same with the Section 7.4 of GB/T 1706-2006. 6.17 Determination of the mean grain size 6.18 Determination of the UV transmittance It is allowed to conduct the determination of the UV transmittance according to the methods in the agreement.

7 Inspection rules

7.1 All the items specified in the requirements of this Standard are exit-factory inspection items, which shall be conducted with lot-by-lot inspection. 7.2 The same level of titanium dioxide for cosmetic use, which are produced by using the same materials under basically the same production conditions, are under continuous production, or are produced in the same group, shall be divided into one batch. Each batch of products shall not exceed 10t. 7.3 DETERMINE the number of sampling units according to the provisions of GB/T 6679. 7.4 If there are any indexes in the inspection results failing to conform to the requirements of this Standard. TAKE samples from twice the amount of packaging again for re-inspection. 7.5 USE the comparison method for rounding off of numerical values specified in GB/T 8170 for determining whether the inspection results conform to this Standard.

8 Marks and labels

8.1 The packaging of the titanium dioxide for cosmetic use shall have solid and clear marks, including. manufacturing plant’s name and address, product name, words of “titanium dioxide for cosmetic use”, category, model, specifications, net content, batch number (or production date), serial number of this Standard, and the mark of “KEEP DRY” specified in GB/T 191-2008. 8.2 Each batch of exit-factory titanium dioxide for cosmetic use shall be attached with quality certificate, including. manufacturing plant’s name and address, product name, words of “titanium dioxide for cosmetic use”, category,

9 Packaging, transportation and storage

9.1 The inner packaging of the titanium dioxide for cosmetic use shall use polyethylene film bags or aluminum-plastic composite film bags. The outer packaging shall use cartons, paper buckets or plastic buckets. 9.3 Titanium dioxide for cosmetic use shall be stored in a dry warehouse, so as to protect it from rain and to avoid being affected with damp. Furthermore, titanium dioxide for cosmetic use shall not be stored along with toxic and harmful substances as well as other contaminated substances. 9.4 In the case of conforming to the packaging, transportation and storage conditions of this Standard, the expiration date of the titanium dioxide for cosmetic use from the date of leaving the factory shall not be less than 24 months. ......
