1 Scope
This Standard specifies the grades, chemical composition, chemical
composition deviation of finished products, mechanical properties, and
sampling locations of mechanical properties, etc. of structural steel for forgings.
This Standard applies to general forgings for sampling determination of
mechanical properties after integral heat treatment in metallurgical, mining,
shipping, engineering machinery and other equipment.
The mechanical properties of this Standard do not apply to forgings such as
main shafts, rotors, impellers, and pressure vessels rotating at high
temperature and high speed in power station equipment.
2 Reference standards
The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this
Standard, constitute provisions of this Standard. At the time of publication of
this Standard, the editions shown are valid. All standards will be revised. Parties
using this Standard shall explore the possibility of using the latest editions of
the following standards.
GB 223 Methods for chemical analysis of iron, steel and alloy (see Appendix
A)
GB 228-87 Metallic materials - Tensile testing
GB/T 229-94 Metallic Material - Charpy notch impact test
GB 231-84 Metallic materials - Brinell hardness test
GB 6397-86 Metallic materials - Test pieces for tensile testing
3 Grades and chemical composition
3.1 The grades and chemical composition (smelting analysis) of carbon
structural steel shall meet the requirements of Table 1.
3.2 The grades and chemical composition (smelting analysis) of alloy structural
steel shall meet the requirements of Table 2.The content of sulfur, phosphorus,
and residual copper, chromium, and nickel in steel shall meet the requirements
of Table 3.
4 Chemical composition deviation of finished product
4.1 For the chemical composition deviation of the finished product, carbon
structural steel forgings shall comply with the requirements of Table 4; alloy
structural steel forgings shall comply with the requirements of Table 5.
4.2 When the purchaser needs to analyze the chemical composition of the
finished product, the sample shall be taken from the forging body or its
extension. For disk or solid forgings, it shall be taken between 1/2 radius to the
outer surface.
5 Mechanical properties
5.1 The mechanical properties of carbon structural steel forgings shall meet the
requirements of Table 1.
5.2 The mechanical properties of alloy structural steel forgings shall meet the
requirements of Table 2.
5.3 Forgings must be inspected for mechanical properties before surface
treatment after property heat treatment.
5.4 After the sample is removed, no heat treatment that affects the mechanical
properties or various processing that affects the test results shall be performed.
6 Sampling locations of mechanical properties
6.1 The mechanical property samples shall be taken from the forging body or
its lengthened, enlarged, and thickened parts.
6.2 The mechanical property samples are allowed to be taken on the blanks
with the same smelting furnace number and the same heat treatment heat. The
size of the blanks shall be equivalent to the size of the forging sampling location.
6.3 The longitudinal tensile sample of the forging, the center of the gauge length
or the axis of the tangential tensile sample and the position of the notch surface
of the impact sample shall be determined according to one of the following
methods.
6.4 The sampling location of the transverse sample is specified according to
the drawing of the purchaser.
6.5 For forgings with special requirements, the sampling location of mechanical
properties shall be implemented according to the agreement between the two
parties.
6.6 For forgings that have been normalized or normalized plus tempered, the
heat-affected zone may not be removed.
7 Sample
The size of the tensile and impact samples of the forgings shall meet the
requirements of GB 6397 and GB/T 229.
8 Test methods
8.1 The chemical analysis tests shall comply with the standards in Appendix A
(normative).
8.2 The tensile test shall meet the requirements of GB 228.
8.3 The impact test shall meet the requirements of GB/T 229.
9 Sampling quantity
The sampling quantity of steel for forgings shall meet the requirements of
product technical standards.
