MODIFY the ambient temperature of the test; ADD the performance retest after
the test (see 6.2.1; 5.2.2.1 of the 2007 edition);

- MODIFY the test time for corrosion resistance (see 6.6; 5.2.6 of the 2007 edition).
Performance requirements and bench test methods of motor
vehicle pedal device
1 Scope
1.1 This standard specifies the terms and definitions, performance requirements, test-
related requirements, test methods of automobile brake pedals and clutch pedals.
1.2 This standard is applicable to mechanical hinged metal brake pedals and clutch
pedals for automobiles. Other types of pedal devices can be implemented with reference
to this standard.

documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable to this document;
for the undated documents, only the latest version (including all the amendments) is
applicable to this standard.

3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions, as defined in GB/T 5620, as well as the following terms and
definitions, apply to this standard.
3.1
Pedal device
A control mechanism, which is operated by the driver's feet.
3.2
Longitudinal displacement Lp1
The vertical displacement of the pedal, under the action of longitudinal force P1, in
both positive and negative directions, perpendicular to the pedal surface and passing
respectively.
4.3 Torsion resistance
Pedals and welds shall not be cracked or damaged.
4.4 Strength
The permanent deformation of the pedal device shall not be greater than 5.0 mm,
meanwhile there shall be no cracks or damage.
4.5 Working durability
4.5.1 During the working durability test, the pedal device shall not be deformed to affect
its function; it shall not have cracks or other abnormal conditions.
4.5.2 After the working durability test, the measured value of the longitudinal
displacement of the pedal device shall not be greater than 4.0 mm; the measured value
of the lateral displacement shall not be greater than 6.0 mm.
4.6 Vibration durability
4.6.1 After the vibration resistance test, there shall be no deformation affecting the
function of the pedal device; there shall be no cracks or other abnormal conditions.
4.6.2 After the vibration resistance test, the measured values of longitudinal
displacement and lateral displacement of the pedal device shall meet the requirements
of 4.1.1 and 4.1.2, respectively.
4.6.3 For the pedal device with brake light switch or clutch light switch, during the
vibration resistance test, the brake light switch or clutch light switch shall not be
triggered.
4.7 Corrosion resistance
After the corrosion resistance test, there shall not be more than one corrosion point,
which has a diameter greater than 2 mm within any 100 cm2 of the outer surface of the
sample. Small and scattered corrosion points are allowed, BUT the total area of
corrosion shall not exceed 5 cm2. Corrosion at weld and thread may not be considered.
5 Test requirements

5.2.2 Unless otherwise specified, the test environment temperature is 8 ~ 38 °C.
5.3 Test samples
The number of samples for each test should not be less than 3. Except for the work
durability, vibration durability, corrosion resistance tests, the return springs must be
removed before the other samples are tested.
6 Test method
6.1 Basic performance
6.1.1 Longitudinal displacement
6.1.1.1 See Figure 4 for the schematic diagram of measuring the longitudinal
displacement of the pedal device.
6.1.1.2 Fix the sample to be tested on the test device, according to the state of the real
vehicle. The pedal arm is rigidly fixed at the mid-stroke position of the full stroke of
the pedal design.
6.1.1.3 Apply a longitudinal force of 20 N ± 2 N, which is perpendicular to the surface
of the pedal and passing through the geometric center of the pedal. Keep it for 5 s. Take
this position as the zero point of the measurement of the longitudinal displacement of
the pedal. Then release the longitudinal force. Reversely apply a longitudinal force of
20 N ± 2 N. After holding for 5 s, measure the longitudinal displacement of the pedal,
as relative to the measurement zero point.
6.1.3.2 Pre-apply a longitudinal force of 10 ~ 20 N, at a position perpendicular to the
pedal surface and passing the geometric center point of the pedal. Take this position as
the zero point of the longitudinal displacement of the pedal.
6.1.3.3 Apply the longitudinal force, which is specified in Table 1, to the pedal device.
Hold it for 5 s. Then release the longitudinal force. Carry out 5 cycles in total. Measure
and record the longitudinal displacement of the pedal, when the longitudinal force is
applied for the fifth time.
6.2 Temperature adaptability
6.2.1 High temperature adaptability
6.2.1.1 Place the tested sample, at an ambient temperature of 80 °C ± 2 °C for 4 hours.
Then make the pedal device operate 5 times, under the full stroke at this ambient
temperature. Observe whether the pedal has interference, jamming, abnormal noises, in
the movement process.
6.2.1.2 After cooling the tested sample to room temperature, measure the longitudinal
displacement and lateral displacement, according to 6.1.1 and 6.1.2.
6.2.2 Low temperature adaptability
Except that the ambient temperature is -40 °C ± 2 °C, the rest are the same as 6.2.1.
6.3 Torsional performance
Install the sample to be tested on the test device, according to the state of the actual
vehicle. Then, as shown in Figure 6, take the center line of the main welding seam,
between the pedal and the pedal lever, as the axis. Apply a rotational torque in both
positive and negative directions, which is equivalent to 15 N·m ± 1 N·m, on the pedal.
Then check the welds and the pedal device, for any abnormalities such as cracks or
damage.
