Foreword
This Standard modifies and adopts JIS G 3505.2004 "Low carbon steel wire rods" (English
edition).
The standard is redrafted according to JIS G 3505.2004.Compared with JIS G
3505.2004, the main technical differences of this Standard are as follows.
— Due to different designation, the designation of iron and steel in China is adopted.
And the requirements in composition of some elements are adjusted;
— The requirements on the cold bending performance arrangement are added;
— The requirements on value rounding are added.
This Standard replaces GB/T 701-1997 "Hot rolled low carbon steel wire rods".
Compared with GB/T 701-1997, the main technical differences are as follows.
— The wire rods for building are deleted from the scope of application. And the scope
of application is revised as "low-carbon steel hot-rolled wire rods for deep
processing and other general purpose";
— The chapter "order content" is added;
— The steel grades are deleted. They are unified as Q195, Q215 and Q235.
Designation Q275 is added;
——The requirements in sulfur and phosphorus contents of the steel are revised;
— The tensile strength and elongation after fracture of steels are revised;
— The clause "surface quality" is revised;
— The clause "test rules" is revised. And the requirements on the mixed group of
different furnace numbers are deleted;
— The clause "smelting process" is revised. And the open-hearth furnace smelting is
deleted;
— The requirements on value rounding are added.
This Standard was proposed by China Iron & Steel Association.
This standard shall be under the jurisdiction of the State Technical Committee for
Standardization of Steel.

Hot Rolled Low Carbon Steel Wire Rods
1 Scope
This Standard specifies order content, dimension and shape, weight and allowable
deviation, technical requirements, test methods, test rules and packing, marking and
quality certificate of hot-rolled low-carbon steel wire rods.
This Standard is applicable to low-carbon steel hot-rolled wire rods for deep processing
and other general purpose.
This Standard is not applicable to the following products.
— hot-rolled carbon bar steel for standard part;
— steel wire rods for welding;
— cold heading steel;
— free-cutting structural steels;
— bar steel for anchor chain.
2 Normative References

text, constitute provisions of this Standard. For dated reference, the subsequent
amendments (excluding correction) or revisions of these publications do not apply.
However, the parties whose enter into agreement according to these specifications are

3 Order Content
The order contracts this Standard applies shall include the following information.
4 Dimension, Shape, Weight And Allowable Deviation
4.1 The dimension, shape and allowable deviation of wire rods shall meet the
requirements of GB/T 14981.And the rods coiling shall be tidy.
4.2 The weight of wire rods in each coil shall not be less than 1000kg; and 5% the coils
each batch may be consisted of 2 roots (2 roots are allowed if there are less than 2 coils),
but the weight of each root shall not be less than 300kg.
5 Technical Requirements
5.1 Designation and chemical composition
5.1.1 The designation and chemical composition (melting analysis) of steel shall meet
the requirements of Table 1.
5.1.2 Aluminium is allowed to replace silicon for deoxygenation.
5.1.3 The residual content of chromium, nickel, copper and arsenic in steel shall meet
the relevant provisions in GB/T 700.
5.2 Smelting process
The steels shall be refined with oxygen converter and electric furnace.
5.3 Condition of delivery
The wire rods shall be delivered in hot-rolled condition.
5.4 Mechanical property and process performance
The mechanical property and process performance of wire rods shall meet the
requirements of Table 2.Negotiated by both parties and indicated in contract, the cold
bending performance test may be conducted. The cold bending performance index of
wire rods with diameter larger than 12mm shall be determined by both parties.
5.5 Surface quality
5.5.1 The harmful defects on ends of wire rods shall be cut off. The cross-section of wire
rods shall be free from shrink hole, delamination and intercalation.
6 Test Method
Inspection items and test methods for wire rods shall comply with the provisions of Table
3.
7 Test Rules
7.1 The inspection of wire rods shall be conducted by the supplier according to the
requirements in Table 3.Purchaser may conduct acceptance according to this Standard.
7.2 Wire rods shall be inspected and accepted by batches. The products of a batch shall
be consisted of the wire rods of same-designation, same-furnace number and same-
dimension.
7.4 The re-inspection and judgment rules of wire rods shall meet the requirements of
GB/T 2101.
7.5 The value rounding shall comply with the provisions of YB/T 081.
8 Packing, Marking and Quality Certificate
The packing, marking and quality certificate of wire rods shall comply with the provisions
of GB/T 2101.
