This standard is developed in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces and technically differs from GB/T 5223-2002 in the following
——Prestressed steel wire of ordinary relaxation is deleted;
——Only cold drawn wire for pressure pipe is reserved;
——Coil weight is increased while inside diameter of coil is decreased; requirement for
weight deviation is added;
——The replacement of total elongation at maximum force with percentage elongation
after fracture is deleted; weight deviation calculation method is added;
——Specified characteristics load value replaces specified stress value to reduce
influence of area or diameter deviation;
——Specification for stress-relieved wire is added;
——Largest value of maximum force is specified; the requirements that actual strength of
each batch of delivered wire shall not be 200 MPa higher than nominal strength are
——The initial stress in relaxation test is changed to a percentage of actual maximum
force from nominal tensile strength; requirements of initial stress being 60% maximum
force are deleted; the new requirements are that 1 000 h relaxation test, in which the initial
force is 70% of actual maximum force shall be made. If the buyer requires, 1 000 h
relaxation test in which initial force is 80% of actual maximum force may also be allowed;
——The specified non-proportional elongation stress σP0.2 is changed to 0.2% yield force
FP0.2; the nominal tensile strength percentage is changed to actual maximum force
——Range of heading strength inspection is extended and no longer limited to wires for
——Reverse bend test made for wires with nominal diameter greater than 10mm is
changed to bending test;
——Property requirements for cold drawn wire for pressure pipe are improved;
——Test methods comply with GB/T 21839;
——Requirements of value rounding are added;
——Requirements for the characteristic value inspection, delivery inspection and type test
are added;
——An annex titled hydrogen embrittlement sensitivity stress corrosion test for cold drawn
wire for pressure pipe is added.
This standard is redrafted, compiled by reference to and nonequivalent to ISO 6934-2.
1991, Steel for the Prestressing of Concrete-Part 2. Cold-Drawn Wire. The main
differences are as follows.
——Spiral-ribbed steel wire is added;
——Strength grade is added;
——Yield ratio of low relaxation steel wire is increased;
——When cold drawn wire is used for pressure pipe, the requirements for its performance
is added by reference to ASTM A 648.
This standard was proposed by China Iron and Steel Association.
This standard is under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee on Iron and Steel
of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 183).

Steel Wire for Prestressing of Concrete
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, classification, codes and designation,
order contents, dimension, shape, weight and allowable deviation, technical requirements,
test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marking and quality certificate of steel wire for
prestressing of concrete.
This standard applies to cold drawn or stress-relieved, low-relaxation, plain, helical rib and
indented wires, for prestressing of concrete, in which the cold drawn wire is used only for
pressure pipe. According to design and construction method, it is suitable to produce
highly efficient prestressed concrete by pre-tensioning method and post-tensioning

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply.
cold drawn wire
steel wire into which the wire rods is drawn by reducing and cold worked and supplied as
stress-relieved wire
Steel wire which is produced by one of the following continuous processing method in one
——low-relaxation steel wire is made when the steel wire is subject to short-time heat
treatment under plastic deformation (axial strain);
——ordinary relaxation steel wire is made when the steel wire is straightened and
thermally treated in short time at an appropriate temperature.

4.1 Classification and Code
4.1.1 Steel wire is divided into cold drawn wire and stress-relieved wire according to
processing state, of which the codes are.
