Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard, through re-drafting method, modifies and adopts ISO 4009.2000
“Commercial vehicles - Location of electrical and pneumatic connections
between towing vehicles and trailers”. The technical differences between this
standard and ISO 4009.2000 are as follows.
- MODIFY the scope of application of the standard, including the central axis
trailer train into the standard applicable range;
- MODIFY the standard structure; ADD Chapter 3 Terms and definitions;
SPLIT the Chapter 3 of international standard into Chapter 4, 5, 6, and 7;
- MODIFY the size range presentation method in Figure 1, Figure 2, Figure
3, and Figure 4;
- MODIFY the parameter descriptions of note b in Figure 1, Figure 2, and
Figure 3;
- MODIFY the installation location of the electrical and pneumatic
connections relative to the vehicle driving direction in Figure 1, Figure 2,
and Figure 3 (changed to the right side of vehicle);
- SIMPLIFY the standard expression; DELETE the “ergonomics based”
expression from Figure 1 and Figure 2; DELETE the expression of “the
position and length of the helical pipeline is depending on the position of
the connections” from 3.4.2.1 and 3.4.2.2;
- DELETE the requirements for “quick connector” and “non-standard
connector”; USE the pneumatic connector complying with SB/T 13881
standard, in order to improve the interchangeability of the pneumatic
connector of towing vehicle and trailer.
This standard also makes the following editorial changes.
- MODIFY the name of the standard, in order to in line with the current similar
standard name in China; CHANGE the “commercial vehicle” to “road
vehicle”;
- In the normative references, CHANGE all national standards adopting
equivalently or through modification international standards into the
corresponding national standards.
Road vehicles - Location of electrical and pneumatic
connections between towing vehicles and trailers
1 Scope
This standard specifies the installation position, size, clearance space, and the
position of the helical pipeline connection, etc., for the electrical and pneumatic
connections between the towing vehicle and trailer (abbreviated as electrical
and pneumatic connection).
This standard applies to the drawbar trailer, center-mounted axis trailers and
articulated trains that are equipped with pneumatic brake systems, 24 V
electrical equipment, AND rear positioned or front lower positioned drawbar
coupling.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1
Drawbar coupling
It refers to the mechanical connection device installed on the rear part of the
towing vehicle OR the front lower part of the rear suspension, which has the
functions of guiding, fixation, and angular movement when the towing vehicle
and the trailer are coupled.
4 Installation location of electrical and pneumatic
connections
The electrical and pneumatic connections for the drawbar coupling rear
positioned towing vehicle shall be arranged in accordance with Figure 1 and
Figure 2; the electrical and pneumatic connections for the drawbar coupling
front below positioned towing vehicle shall be arranged in accordance with
Figure 3; AND the electrical and pneumatic connections for the towing vehicle
of articulated train shall be arranged in accordance with Figure 4. The electrical
and pneumatic connections shall be located within the specified region as
shown.
b The distance from the center of the drawbar coupling to the rear end of the
towing vehicle, which is divided into three ranges. 1300 mm ~ 1400 mm,
1500 mm ~ 1600 mm, 1800 mm ~ 1900 mm;
c Installation surface;
d Horizontal centerline of drawbar coupling;
e Road plane;
f The vertical centerline of drawbar coupling;
g The height of drawbar coupling at full load, 355 mm ~ 405 mm;
h Control pipelines (SEE GB/T 13881);
i Power supply pipelines (SEE ISO/IEC 13818);
j ABS socket (SEE ISO/IEC 15177-1);
k 7-core standard type/15-core (SEE GB/T 5053.1, GB/T 20717);
l 7-core auxiliary type;
m Top of chassis structure. if it cannot reach to the minimum value 220 mm,
the installation limit may be beyond of the chassis structure top.

for the drawbar coupling front below positioned towing vehicle (C-type
location area)
i Control pipeline (SEE GB/T 13881);
j Upper edge of chassis structure (longitudinal/towing vehicle);
k The upper edge of the towing seat plane;
l As for the semi-trailers without suitable front wall structure, for example,
container transport semi-trailer and semi-trailer with front refrigerated
structure, the installation position of electric and pneumatic connections can
be less than 800 mm. However, for safety reasons, the installation position
shall be as high as possible under the preconditions of not contact cargo.
m The installation area on the towing vehicle can be rotated up to 90° from
the horizontal.
