Foreword
This Standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Standard uses redrafting method to modify and adopt ISO 17247.2013 “Coal -
Ultimate analysis”.
Compared with ISO 17247.2013, this Standard has more structural adjustments. Annex
A lists the comparison on chapter and subchapter numbers between this Part and ISO
17247.2013.
There are technical differences between this Standard and ISO 17247.2013.The terms
to which these differences relate have been indicated by a vertical single line (∣) in
their outer margins. A list of the corresponding technical differences and their reasons
is given in Annex B.
This Standard also makes the following editorial modifications.
- Change “this International Standard” to “this Standard”;
- Use decimal point "." to replace comma "," in the ISO standard.
This Standard was proposed by China Coal Industry Association.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee on Coal
of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 42).

1 Scope
This Standard specifies the terms and definitions, method summary, test methods, result
expression and test report of ultimate analysis of coal.
This Standard applies to coal.
2 Normative references
The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this
document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references,
the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.
GB/T 211, Determination of total moisture in coal
3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions defined in GB/T 483 and
GB/T 3715 apply.
It is obtained by subtracting the carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur, ash and moisture of
coal from 100, expressed in mass fraction.
4 Method summary
Carry out the experimental analysis of coal carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur, ash and
moisture. Oxygen is calculated by subtraction.
5 Test methods
According to the test method specified in Table 1, the carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur,
ash and moisture of coal are measured, respectively.
6 Result expression
Calculate the air-drying basis hydrogen (Hm,ad) content including hydrogen in moisture
according to formula (2).
The test results of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur, ash and moisture of coal and
calculated oxygen by difference are expressed in mass fraction. Except for oxygen by
difference, other items can be converted based on GB/T 483.
7 Test report
The test report shall include at least the following information.
