Road vehicles - Plate and label
1 Scope
This standard specifies the definition, performance requirements and test
methods of plates and labels used on road vehicles for the descriptions of
vehicle information.
This standard applies to all types of plates and labels used on road vehicles for
the description of vehicle manufacturing information, warning information,
manipulation and indicative information.
This standard does not apply to the vehicle identifications directly formed on a
vehicle or vehicle body by marking, etching, casting, painting, printing, or
sewing, etc.
This standard does not apply to vehicle non-information plates and labels.
This standard does not apply to the identification of vehicles or components
used in the production, transportation or transfer of vehicles (which may be
removed prior to normal use of the vehicle).
All kinds of plates and labels used for vehicle components and assembly may
make reference to this standard.
2 Normative references
The provisions in following documents become the provisions of this Standard
through reference in this Standard. For the dated references, the subsequent
amendments (excluding corrections) or revisions do not apply to this Standard;
however, parties who reach an agreement based on this Standard are
encouraged to study if the latest versions of these documents are applicable.
For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document applies.

Exposed interior labels (D type)
It refers to the labels located inside the vehicle, visible in the normal use of
the component (the foldable component is in stowed condition), exposed to
sunlight, and located on the outer surface (visible surface) of the visor.
For example. the sun visor airbag label, seat belt label, VIN label, etc.
3.2.5
Non-exposed interior labels (E type)
It refers to the labels located inside the vehicle which is visible (as for the
foldable components, the label is visible when the folded component is
opened) and not exposed to sunlight; AND the labels which are only exposed
after opening the sun visor or door.
For example. labels affixed to the inner surface of sun visor, labels affixed to
the inner surface of the foldable components, and luggage compartment
label, etc.
4 Performance requirements for plates and labels
4.1 Performance requirements for plates
The coating adhesion, color fastness, abrasion resistance, salt spray resistance,
wet heat resistance and mold resistance shall comply with the relevant
requirements of GB/T 13306-1991. The performance requirements of the plates
can also be determined by the supplier and the purchaser through negotiation.
4.2 Performance requirements for plate tape adhesion
4.2.1 Peeling strength
Through negotiation between the supplier and the purchaser, it may use the
180° peeling strength or 90° peeling strength (either one of them) to assess the
peeling strength properties of the tape.
4.2.1.1 Peeling strength at the time of initial adhesion
5.2 Test method for plate tape adhesion
5.2.1 Test environment
Unless otherwise specially defined, all tests shall be conducted in a standard
environment (23 °C ± 2 °C, 50% ± 5% RH), AND meanwhile the test tape and
test plate shall be left in a standard environment for 4 h before being pasted.
5.2.2 Sample preparation
Test plate. length of 125 mm ± 1 mm, width of 50 mm ± 1 mm, thickness of 1.5
mm ~ 2.0 mm, AND the test plate material is the 1Cr18Ni9Ti (SUS304) as
specified in GB/T 3280-2007. Through negotiation between the supplier and the
purchaser, it may also select the paint plate or electroplating plate outside the
vehicle on which the plates are actually affixed as the test plate. Before pasting
the tape onto the test plate, it shall use the degreased gauze and detergent to
clean the surface of the test plate.
Tape. Tape size is based on the specific requirements of different tests, each
test requires preparing of at least 3 samples, AND the test result is the average
of the test results of each sample. The test tape is a roll of double-sided tape
with one side covered with release paper. The side without the release paper is
called the open side, which is affixed to the label. AND the other side covered
with a release paper is called a covering surface, which is affixed to the vehicle
body or electroplating component surface.
5.2.3 Peeling strength test
5.2.3.1 180° peeling strength test
In a standard environment, PREPARE a tape sample of width 25 mm and length
200 mm. In order to ensure that the tape is not stretched or deformed in the
stripping, it is required to attach a 20 μm ~ 60 μm polyester film to the open side
of the tape. At the same time, in order to ensure the adhesive strength of
polyester film and tape, before attaching the polyester film, APPLY the primer
coating to the adhesive surface of polyester film, AND after the primer is dried,
AFFIX the polyester film to the tape.
ATTACH the covering side of the tape which is affixed with polyester film to the
test plate, and USE a 2 kg pressure roller to roll the surface at the speed of 300
mm/min for a round trip, in order to ensure the tape is completely adhered.
Under the different test conditions of 5.2.3.3 to 5.2.3.9, FOLD the free end of
the test sample for 180°; from the test plate, STRIP 25 mm test sample;
respectively CLAMP the free end of the test sample and the test plate in the
upper and lower holders of the tensile tester; it shall ensure that the stripping

test sample in an 80 °C ± 2 °C aging box for 240 h. After aging is finished,
PLACE the test sample in the standard environment for 24 h; CONDUCT test
in accordance with the test method as specified in 5.2.3.1 or 5.2.3.2.
5.2.3.7 Peeling strength test after aging in warm water
After placing the test sample in a standard environment for 24 h, IMMERSE it
in a water bath of 40 °C ± 2 °C for 240 h. After aging is finished, thoroughly
REMOVE the surface moisture and PLACE the test sample in the standard
environment for 24 h; CONDUCT test in accordance with the test method as
specified in 5.2.3.1 or 5.2.3.2.
5.2.3.8 Peeling strength test after cyclic aging
After placing the test sample in a standard environment for 24 h, PLACE it in
the cyclic aging box; CONDUCT aging test based on the following temperature
cycles.
a) At -30 °C, PLACE it for 17 h;
b) At 70 °C, PLACE it for 72 h;
c) At 38 °C and 100% RH, PLACE it for 24 h;
d) At -30 °C, PLACE it for 7 h;
e) At 38 °C and 100% RH, PLACE it for 17 h;
f) At 70 °C, PLACE it for 7 h.
After the aging is finished, PLACE the test sample in the standard environment
for 24 h; CONDUCT test in accordance with the test method as specified in
5.2.3.1 or 5.2.3.2.
5.2.3.9 Peeling strength test after moisture aging
After placing the test sample in a standard environment for 24 h, PLACE the
test sample in a 38 °C ± 2 °C and 95% RH aging box for 240 h. After aging is
finished, PLACE the test sample in the standard environment for 24 h;
CONDUCT test in accordance with the test method as specified in 5.2.3.1 or
5.2.3.2.
