Foreword
This document was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2020,
Directives for standardization - Part 1.Rules for the structure and drafting of
standardizing documents.
This document replaces GB/T 24487-2009, Alumina. Compared with GB/T 24487-
2009, in addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical
changes are as follows.
a) Change the scope of application (see Chapter 1; Chapter 1 of the 2009 edition);
b) Change the classification of alumina designations, add AO-G designation, and
delete AO-3 designation (see Chapter 4; 3.1 of the 2009 edition);
c) Change the requirements for chemical compositions and physical properties
(see 5.1 and 5.2; 3.2 and 3.3 of the 2009 edition);
d) Change the calculation rules for Al2O3 content (see 6.1.2; 3.2.1 of the 2009
edition);
e) Change the contents of inspection and acceptance (see 7.1; 5.1 of the 2009
edition);
f) Change the provisions on batch weight in batch (see 7.2; 5.2 of the 2009
edition);
g) Add requirements for sample preparation (see 7.4.3).

1 Scope
This document specifies the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules,
marking, packaging, transportation, storage, quality certificate and order form (or
contract) contents of alumina (Al2O3).
This document applies to alumina produced from raw materials such as bauxite,
recycled alumina raw materials, etc., used for the production of metallic aluminum by
molten salt electrolysis, as well as to alumina used as raw materials for the production
of corundum, ceramics, refractory products and other alumina chemical products.

3 Terms and definitions

4 Designation
Alumina is divided into three designations according to its main chemical compositions
and physical properties. AO-G, AO-1 and AO-2.
5 Requirements
5.1 Chemical compositions
6 Test methods
6.1 Chemical compositions
6.1.1 The chemical compositions of alumina shall be calculated on a dry basis after
drying at 300 ℃ ± 5 ℃ for 2 h.
6.1.2 Calculation of Al2O3 content. 100% minus the contents of SiO2, CaO, Fe2O3,
Na2O and the loss on ignition.
6.1.3 The contents of SiO2, Fe2O3, Na2O, CaO and other compositions shall be
determined in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 6609.3, GB/T 6609.4, GB/T
6609.5 and GB/T 6609.13, or in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 6609.1 and
GB/T 6609.30.GB/T 6609.3, GB/T 6609.4, GB/T 6609.5 and GB/T 6609.13 are
arbitration methods.
6.1.4 The determination of loss on ignition shall be carried out in accordance with the
provisions of GB/T 6609.2.
6.1.5 The determination of trace element contents such as Mn, V, Zn, Ti, Ga, K, etc.
shall be carried out in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 6609.1.
6.2 Physical properties
6.2.1 The specific surface area shall be determined in accordance with the provisions
of GB/T 6609.35.
6.2.2 The content of particles with a particle size less than 45 μm and particles with a
particle size greater than or equal to 150 μm in the particle size distribution shall be
determined in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 6609.27.
6.2.3 The content of particles with a particle size less than 20 μm in the particle size
distribution shall be determined in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 19077.1.
6.2.4 The flow time shall be determined in accordance with the provisions of GB/T
6609.36.
6.2.5 The angle of repose shall be determined in accordance with the provisions of
GB/T 6609.24.
6.2.6 The attrition index shall be determined in accordance with the provisions of GB/T
6609.33.
6.2.7 The α-Al2O3 content shall be determined in accordance with the provisions of
GB/T 6609.32.
6.2.8 The bulk density shall be determined in accordance with the provisions of GB/T
6609.25.
6.3 Appearance quality
The appearance quality of alumina shall be inspected visually.
7 Inspection rules
7.1 Inspection and acceptance
7.1.1 Alumina shall be inspected by the supplier's technical supervision department to
ensure that the product quality complies with the provisions of this document and to fill
in the product quality certificate.
7.1.2 The buyer shall inspect the received products in accordance with the provisions
of this document. If the inspection results are inconsistent with the provisions of this
document, it shall be reported to the supplier within 30 days from the date of receipt of
the product and resolved through negotiation between the supplier and the buyer. If
arbitration is required, the arbitration sampling shall be taken on the buyer’s side and
carried out by the supplier and the buyer jointly.
7.1.3 If necessary, the buyer may, in accordance with the terms of the order form (or
contract), enter the supplier's site to conduct pre-delivery inspection and acceptance of
the products to be delivered.
7.2 Batch
Alumina shall be submitted for inspection in batches. Each batch shall consist of
products of the same designation. The weight of each batch of bagged alumina or bulk
alumina in tank trucks shall not exceed 2 000 tons.
7.3 Inspection items
Each batch of alumina shall be inspected for chemical composition, physical properties
and appearance quality.
7.4 Sampling and sample preparation
7.4.1 Sampling during production process
Manufacturers can refer to GB/T 6609.22 to develop sampling plans for the production
process and use them as the basis for factory inspection.
7.4.2 Arbitration sampling
7.4.2.1 For each batch of bagged alumina, at least 20 bags shall be randomly selected.

8.2.1 The outer packaging of alumina shall be made of polypropylene plastic woven
bags or other materials suitable for product packaging, transportation and storage to
ensure that the product quality meets the technical requirements of this document.
8.2.2 When the product is delivered, the compartment shall be cleaned or covered with
protective materials. Products of different designations shall not be mixed.
8.2.3 Products shall be stored in batches in a clean, dry warehouse and shall not be
contaminated.
8.3 Quality certification
Each batch of products shall be accompanied by a quality certificate, which indicates.
a) supplier information;
b) product name and designation;
c) batch number and net content;
d) analysis and inspection results and the stamp of the supplier’s technical
(quality) supervision department;
e) a reference to this document;
f) production date or packaging date.
9 Order form (or contract) contents
The order form (or contract) for the materials listed in this document shall include the
