1 Scope
This Standard specifies the relevant terms and definitions, quality requirements and
hygienic requirements, test methods, inspection rules, labeling, marking, as well as
packaging, storage and transportation requirements for cotton seed.
This Standard applies to the commercial cotton seeds that are processed and delinted
from cotton seeds for oil production.
2 Normative references
The terms in the following documents become the terms of this Standard by reference
to this Standard. For dated references, all subsequent amendments (not including errata
content) or revisions do not apply to this standard. However, parties to agreements that
are based on this Standard are encouraged to study whether the latest versions of these
documents can be used. For undated references, the latest edition applies to this
Standard.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions are applicable to this Standard.
3.1
Cotton seeds are graded according to their oil content. The quality requirements are
shown in Table 1.
4.2 Hygienic requirements
Carry out in accordance with GB19641 and relevant national standards and regulations.
4.3 Plant quarantine
Carry out plant quarantine items in accordance with relevant national regulations.
5 Test methods
5.1 Sampling and sample reduction: follow GB 5491.
5.2 Determination of oil content: follow GB/T1 4488.1.
5.3 Identification of color and odour: follow GB/T 5492.
5.4 Determination of content of impurities: follow GB/T 14488.2.
5.5 Determination of moisture content: follow GB/T 14489.1.
6 Inspection rules
6.1 The general rules for inspection shall be implemented in accordance with GB/T
5490.
6.2 The inspection lot shall be cotton seeds of the same type, the same origin, the same
harvest year, the same transport unit and the same storage unit.
6.3 Determination rules: The oil content of cotton seeds shall meet the requirements of
the corresponding grades in Table 1, and other indicators shall be implemented in
accordance with relevant national regulations. Cotton seeds with an oil content lower
than Grade 5 and other indicators meeting the requirements of Table 1 shall be
determined as off-grade cotton seeds.
