requirements, special surface quality requirements, etc.
5 Classification and code
5.1 H section steel is divided into two categories, and their codes are as follows.
-- H section steel (“H” stands for general purpose H section steel);
-- HK section steel (“HK” stands for extended H section steel).
5.2 The code for T section steel is “T section steel” (“T” stands for cut T section steel).
6 Size, shape, weight and allowable deviation
6.1 Size and representation
6.1.1 The cross-sectional views of H section steel and T section steel are shown in
Figures 1 and 2.
6.1.2 The cross-sectional dimensions of H section steel and T section steel shall comply
with the provisions of Appendix A, Appendix B and Appendix C respectively, among
which the fillet radius (r), surface area and moment of inertia (Ix, Iy), radius of inertia
(ix, iy) and section modulus (Wx, Wy) in Appendix A, Appendix B and Appendix C are
reference values. According to the requirements of the buyer, products of other
parameter requirements can also be supplied by agreement between the supplier and the
buyer. Reference formulas for calculating the cross-sectional area, theoretical weight
and cross-sectional properties of H section steel are shown in Appendix D.
6.1.3 The delivery length of H section steel and T section steel shall be specified in the
contract. Usually, the specific length is 12 000 mm. Products of other specific lengths
can also be supplied according to the requirements of the buyer.
6.2 Size, shape and allowable deviation
6.2.1 The size, shape and allowable deviation of H section steel shall comply with the
requirements of Table 1.The allowable deviation of the height of T section steel shall
comply with the provisions of Table 2; the allowable deviation of other parts shall be in
accordance with the allowable deviation of the corresponding parts of H section steel.
6.2.2 Based on the requirements of the buyer, the size, shape and allowable deviation
of H section steel and T section steel may also be subject to the agreement between the
supplier and the buyer.
6.2.3 H section steel and T section steel shall be free of obvious torsion.
6.3 Weight and allowable deviation
6.3.1 H section steel and T section steel shall be delivered according to theoretical
weight (theoretical weight is calculated based on the density of 7.85 g/cm3).
6.3.2 The allowable deviation of the weight of each piece (batch) of H section steel
shall not exceed ±4%, and the allowable deviation of the weight of each piece (batch)
of T section steel shall not exceed ±5%.
6.3.3 The allowable deviation Δm of the weight of H section steel and T section steel
shall be calculated according to Formula (1).
6.4 Specifications
6.4.1 H section steel. H and the value of height H × the value of width B × the value of
web thickness t1 × the value of flange thickness t2.
For example. H596×199×10×15.
HK steel. HK and the value of height H × the value of width B × the value of web
thickness t1 × the value of flange thickness t2.
For example. HK1008×310×26×40.
6.4.2 T section steel. T and the value of height h × the value of width B × the value of
web thickness t1 × the value of flange thickness t2.
For example. T207×405×18×28.
6.5 Method of customizing H section steel specifications
6.5.1 For H section steel of the same model, the web clear height h0, flange extension
width b0 and fillet radius r are the same. While keeping h0, b0 and r unchanged, the
flange thickness t2 and web thickness t1 can be adjusted for customized design. The
specific specifications shall be determined by negotiation between the supplier and the
buyer.
6.5.2 The steps and examples for customizing the specifications of H section steel are
as follows.
a) Select the initial specification H × B × t1 × t2; calculate the web clear height h0
and flange extension width b0 according to Formula (2) and Formula (3)
respectively;
b) The design of flange thickness t2’ and web thickness t1’ shall ensure
1.0< t2'/t1'< 2.0;
c) Calculate the designed height H’ and width B’ according to Formula (4) and
Formula (5) respectively;
d) Form new specifications H’ × B’ × t1’ × t2’.
