Foreword
This Standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Standard replaces GB/T 1047-2005, Pipework components – Definition and
selection of DN (nominal size). Compared with GB/T 1047-2005, in addition to editorial
changes, the major technical changes are as follows:
-- it adds nominal sizes DN 550, DN 650, DN 750, DN 850, DN 950, DN 1050, DN
1150, DN 1300, DN 1700, DN 1900, DN 2100, DN 2300, DN 2500, DN 2700, DN
2700 and DN 2900 (see 3.1; Clause 3 of 2005 edition);
-- it adds the correspondence between nominal size DN and NPS (see Annex A).
This Standard was redrafted by referencing to ISO 6708:1995, Pipework components
– Definition and selection of DN (nominal size). This standard was nonequivalent to
ISO 6708:1995.
This Standard was proposed by the China Machinery Industry Federation.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee 237 on
Pipeline Fittings of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 237).

Definition and selection of nominal size
1 Scope
This Standard gives the definition of DN (nominal size) of pipework components, and
specifies the nominal size series used for pipework components.
This Standard applies to pipework components which use the DN designation system.
2 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
2.1
nominal size
An alphanumeric designation of size for components of a pipework system, which is
used for reference purposes. It comprises the letters DN followed by a dimensionless
whole number.
NOTE 1: This dimensionless number is directly related to the physical size, in millimetres, of
the bore or outside diameter of the end connections.
NOTE 2: The number following the letters DN does not represent a measurable value and
should not be used for calculation purposes except where specified in the relevant standard.

This standard replaces GB/T 1047-2005 "Definition and Selection of Pipe Element DN (Nominal Size)". This standard and

Definition and selection of nominal dimensions of pipe components
1 Scope
This standard gives the definition of the nominal size of the piping system components, and specifies the nominal size series used by the piping components.
This standard applies to pipe components marked with a DN of nominal size.
2 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
2.1
Nominal size nominalsize
A dimensional identifier for the combination of letters and numbers used in piping system components, consisting of the letter DN followed by a dimensionless integer number.
Note 1. This dimensionless number is directly related to the feature size such as the aperture or outer diameter (in mm) of the end connector.
