1 Scope
1.1 This Part of GB 567 specifies technical requirements for test principles and
methods, test devices and instruments, test conditions and test preparation, test rules,
test procedures, data processing and measurement uncertainty calculation, etc. for
burst pressure testing, flow capacity testing, fatigue testing and flow resistance testing
in terms of type tests of bursting disc safety devices.
1.2 This Part is applicable to the following bursting disc safety devices.
— This Part is applicable to the bursting disc safety devices used for pressure
vessels, pressure pipes or other sealing pressure equipment (hereinafter
referred to as pressure equipment) to prevent overpressure or excess vacuum;
— As for the bursting discs in the bursting disc safety devices applicable in this
Part, the bursting pressure shall not be greater than 500MPa and not less than
0.001MPa.
1.3 This Part is not applicable to the following bursting disc safety devices.
— Pressure equipment, possible to increase pressure abruptly in the operation,
reaching reaction rate at detonation degree.
— Bursting disc safety devices under the special requirements in the defense
military equipment.
Note. Phenomenon that is generated very differently from the common burning and explosion
when the burning rate of the material is quickly, above 1 000m/s, is known as detonation.
2 Normative References

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this Part, the following terms and definitions as well as those
established in GB 567.1, GB 567.2 and GB 567.3 shall apply.
3.1
Burst pressure testing
The test that verifies the operating performance of bursting disc safety devices to
determine their bursting pressure at designate temperature.
3.2
Flow capacity testing
The test that determines the operating characteristics of bursting disc safety devices
and measures their discharge capacity under corresponding pressure.
3.4
Measured relieving (discharge) capacity
The discharge capacity of bursting disc safety devices that is measured under relief
pressure, represented by discharge weight or volume per unit time.
4 Burst Pressure Testing
4.1 General requirements
The burst pressure testing shall be conducted on the exclusive burst pressure test
device or on the device used in flow capacity testing or flow resistance testing, which
shall be completed at the same time with the discharge capacity testing or flow
resistance testing.
4.2 Test Principles and Methods

4.3.1 Test devices
Burst pressure test devices shall meet the following requirements.
4.3.2 Temperature measurement
Thermocouple, thermal resistance or other devices that are able to accurately
measure the bursting disc temperature shall be adopted to measure the test
temperature of the bursting disc. The resolution of the temperature measuring
instruments shall not be below 0.5°C.
4.4 Test conditions and test preparation
4.4.1 Test medium
In general, the test medium shall be compressed air, water or hydraulic oil. However,
the test medium under high pressure or high temperature shall be nitrogen, hydraulic
oil or heat-transfer oil.
4.4.2 Test preparation
Test preparation shall meet the following requirements.

4.5.1 Sampling
Sampling of bursting discs for test shall be selected at random from the same lot in
the lot production; the number of samples shall be 4.
4.5.2 Test number
Randomly select 3 pieces from the sampled bursting disc devices for burst pressure
testing.
4.5.3 Test temperature
4.6 Test procedures
Test procedures are as follows.

4.8 Retest
4.8.1 If not all the testing conclusions of the burst pressure testing discs are qualified,
it is allowable to sample 6 discs from the products in the same lot again for retest.
4.8.2 If all of the burst pressure retesting results are within the permissible scope of
the standard, the burst pressure testing conclusion of such model of bursting disc
products represented by the disc samples may be regarded as qualified.
4.9 Test Record and Test Report
5 Flow Capacity Testing
5.1 General requirements
The flow capacity testing shall be completed on the exclusive flow capacity test device
at the same time with the burst pressure testing, or the bursting disc safety devices
may be subject to the flow capacity testing after the burst pressure testing.
5.3 Test Devices and Instruments
5.3.1 Test devices
Flow capacity test device shall meet the following requirements.

Flow measurement shall meet the following requirements.
5.4 Test conditions and test preparation
5.4.1 Test medium
The medium in the flow capacity testing should be compressed air or water. Conduct
test at normal temperature as much as possible.
5.4.2 Test preparation
Test preparation shall meet the following requirements.

5.6 Data processing
5.6.1 Conduct flow capacity testing on the 3 bursting discs respectively and
calculate the average value of the discharge capacity. If the difference between the
discharge capacity of each bursting disc and the average discharge capacity is within
5%, the average value will be adopted as the measured discharge capacity of such
model of bursting discs.
6 Fatigue Testing
6.1 Test Principles and Methods
Install the bursting disc safety device on the test device which can boost and reduce
pressure frequently as required or on an exclusive fatigue test device.
6.2 Test Devices and Instruments
6.2.1 Test devices
Test devices shall meet the following requirements.
6.2.2 Pressure measurement
Pressure gauge or pressure transmitter whose accuracy grade is not below 1.6 and
measuring range is 1.5~3 times of the test pressure value shall be adopted.
6.2.3 Temperature measurement
Temperature measurement shall meet the following requirements.
6.3 Test conditions and test preparation
6.3.1 Test medium
In general, the medium in the fatigue testing should be compressed air, water or oil.
Conduct cold test as much as possible.
6.4 Test rules
6.4.1 Sampling
Sampling of bursting discs for test shall be selected at random from the same lot in
the lot production; the number of samples shall be 4.Test discs may be used in the
flow capacity testing or the flow resistance factor test. But the post-bursting shape of
the bursting disc must be guaranteed to meet the relevant requirements.
6.5 Test procedures
Test procedures are as follows.
6.6 Data processing
6.6.1 The bursting disc safety device for fatigue property test shall be conducted
with burst pressure testing after the fatigue testing is completed. If all the burst
pressure values of all the tested bursting disc safety devices do not exceed the
allowable tolerance extent of the burst pressure, the fatigue property test conclusion
shall be regarded as qualified.

The flow resistance testing shall be completed on the exclusive flow resistance test
device at the same time with the burst pressure testing, or the bursting disc safety
devices may be subject to the flow resistance testing after the burst pressure testing.
