1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, classification, codes and designation,
order contents, dimension, shape, weight and allowable deviation, technical requirements,
test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marking and quality certificate of steel wire for
prestressing of concrete.
This standard applies to cold drawn or stress-relieved, low-relaxation, plain, helical rib
and indented wires for prestressing of concrete. In which, the cold drawn wire is used
only for pressure pipe. According to design and construction method, it is suitable to
produce highly efficient prestressed concrete by pre-tensioning method and post-
tensioning method.

coil.
3.2
stress-relieved wire
GB/T 5223-2014
the steel wire which is produced by one of the following continuous processing method in
one time.
3.3
relaxation
the phenomenon that stress is reduced in related to time, under a fixed length.
3.4
helical rib wire
the helical rib on the surface of steel wire, which has continuous and regular shape along
the length-direction (see Figure 1).
4 Classification, Code and Designation
4.1 Classification and Code
4.1.1 Steel wire is divided into cold drawn wire and stress-relieved wire according to
processing state, of which the codes are.
4.1.2 Steel wire is divided into plain, helical rib and indentation types according to the
shape, of which the codes are.
4.2.1 Designation information
The designation of products delivered according to this standard shall include the
following contents.
4.2.2 Designation example
Example 1.cold drawn plain wire, 4.00 mm in diameter and tensile strength of 1670 MPa
shall be designated as.
5 Order Content
The order contract according to this standard shall include the following contents.
6 Dimensions, Shape, Weight and Allowable Deviation
6.1 The dimension and allowable deviation of plain wire shall meet the requirements
specified in Table 1.See Table 1 for theoretical weight per meter.
6.2 The dimension and allowable deviation of helical rib wire shall be in accordance with
those specified in Table 2.See Figure 1 for the shape. The nominal cross sectional area of
steel wire and theoretical weight per meter are the same as those of plain wire.
6.5 Out-of-roundness of prestressed steel wire shall not exceed a half of diameter
tolerance. At least 90% of indentations on any 600mm long indented wire shall be in
accordance with the pitch and shape specified in Table 3.
6.6 Coil weight
Each coil of wire contains one piece and the weight is not less than 1000kg. If there are at
least ten coils of wire, 10% of them are allowed to be less than 1000kg, but not less than
300kg.
6.7 Inside diameter of coil
6.8 Weight deviation
Wire weight per meter shall not be deviated from theoretical weight per meter by over
±2 %.
7 Technical Requirements
7.1 Manufacturing Method
7.1.1 The designation conforming to those specified in GB/T 24238 or GB/T 24242.2
GB/T 5223-2014
7.1.2 Wire shall be manufactured by putting hot-rolled wire rod into cold machining or
continuous stabilizing treatment after cold machining.
7.2 Mechanical Property
7.2.1 For cold drawn wire for pressure pipe without coating (plating), the mechanical
property shall meet the requirements specified in Table 4.0.2% yield force FP0.2 shall not
be less than 75 % of characteristic value FM of maximum force.
7.2.3 For stress-relieved indented wire, mechanical property, other than number of
bends shall meet the requirements specified in Table 5.For all the stress-relieved
indented wires regardless of their specifications, the number of bends shall not be less
than three.
7.2.6 According to supply agreement, wires of strength grades beyond Table 4 and
Table 5 can be provided and their mechanical property shall follow the agreement.
7.2.7 1 000 h relaxation value is allowed to be determined by estimation method. 1 000
h relaxation test, in which the initial force is 70% of actual maximum force, shall be made.
If the buyer requires, 1 000 h relaxation test in which initial force is 80% of actual
maximum force may also be allowed.
7.2.8 The seller shall conduct heading strength inspection, and the strength is not
less than 95% of nominal tensile strength of base material.
7.3 Surface Quality
7.3.1 Wire shall be free from any crack and oil stain or drawing stamp and mechanical
damage on the surface. The discontinuous longitudinal surface defects with depth not
greater than 4 % of nominal diameter of wire is allowed.
7.4 Straightness of Stress-relieved Wire
