GB 4404 Seed of food crops is divided into the following parts:

This Part is Part 4 of GB 4404.
This Part replaces GB 4404.5-1999 Seeds for food corps - Oats.
Compared with GB 4404.5-1999, the main changes in this Part are as follows:
-- Clarify the scope of application;
-- Modify terms and definitions;
-- Modify the purity requirements for qualified seeds of oats;
-- Cancel the reference regulations on packaging, transportation and storage;
-- Modify the inspection rules.
This Part was proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture of the PRC.
This Part shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee 37 on Crop
Seed of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 37).

1 Scope
This Part of GB 4404 specifies the requirements for quality, inspection methods and
inspection rules for seed of oats (Avena sativa L.).
This Part applies to the above-mentioned seed of oats produced and sold within the
territory of the People’s Republic of China, covering both coated and uncoated seeds.
2 Normative references
The terms in the following documents become the terms of this Part by reference to this
Part of GB 4404. For dated references, all subsequent amendments (not including errata
content) or revisions do not apply to this Part. However, parties to agreements that are
based on this Part are encouraged to study whether the latest versions of these
documents can be used. For undated references, the latest edition applies to this Part.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions are applicable to this Part of GB 4404.

basic seed
Seeds of the first to third generation propagated from breeder’s seeds, which have been
confirmed to meet the specified quality requirements.
3.2
qualified seed
Seeds of the first to third generation propagated from conventional basic seeds or of
hybrids, which have been confirmed to meet the specified quality requirements.
