Foreword
This Standard replaces SN/T 2894-2011 “Food contact materials for export -
Polymers - Determination of methyl methacrylate in food simulants. Gas
chromatography-mass spectrometry”.
As compared with SN/T 2894-2011, the main changes of this Standard are as
follows.
- CHANGE the Standard’s name to “National Food Safety Standard - Food
Contact Materials and Articles - Determination of Migration of Methyl
Methacrylate”;
- MODIFY the preparation of test solution of food simulants;
- MODIFY the analytical results expression;
- MODIFY the limits of detection and quantitation.

Determination of Migration of Methyl Methacrylate
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for
determination of migration of methyl methacrylate in food contact materials and
articles.
This Standard applies to the determination of migration of methyl methacrylate
in food contact materials and articles.
2 Principles
USE ethyl acetate to extract the methyl methacrylate in water-based, acidic,
and alcohol-based simulants; USE absolute ethyl alcohol to extract sunflower
seed oil simulants; then, USE gas chromatography-mass spectrometry to
detect the extract; and ADOPT external standard method to quantify.
3 Reagents and materials
Unless otherwise stated, the reagents used in this method are analytically pure;
the water is the Grade I water specified in GB/T 6682.
3.1 Reagents
3.1.1 Sodium chloride (NaCl).
3.1.2 Anhydrous sodium sulfate (Na2SO4).
3.1.3 Ethyl acetate (C4H8O2). chromatographically pure.
3.1.4 Absolute ethyl alcohol (C2H5OH). chromatographically pure.
3.1.5 Water-based, acidic, and alcohol-based simulants. The reagents used are
in accordance with the provisions of GB 31604.1.
3.1.6 Sunflower seed oil. SEE Table B.1 in Appendix B for specifications.
4.4 Centrifuge. 4000 r/min.
4.5 Volumetric flask. 50 mL, 100 mL, 1000 mL.
4.6 Organic filter membrane. 0.45 μm.
4.7 Pipette. 2 mL, 5 mL, 10 mL.
4.8 Centrifuge tube with stopper. 10 mL.
4.9 Adjustable pipette (1 μL~20 μL, 20 μL~100 μL, 100 μL~5000 μL).
5 Analytical procedures
5.1 Sample migration test
According to the requirements of GB 5009.156 and GB 31604.1, CARRY out
migration test on the sample and OBTAIN test solution of food simulants. If the
obtained test solution of food simulants is not ready for further test immediately,
it shall store the test solution of food simulants in a refrigerator at 0 °C~4 °C in
dark.
For further test, the obtained test solution of food simulants shall be cooled or
restored to room temperature.
5.2 Preparation of test solution
5.2.1 Preparation of test solution of water-based, acidic, and alcohol-
based food simulants
PIPETTE 2.0 mL of the water-based, acidic, and alcohol-based food simulants,
which are obtained from the migration test, into 10 mL centrifuge tube with
stopper; ADD 0.5 g of sodium chloride and 2 mL of ethyl acetate to the
centrifuge tube; after extracting by vortex (1500 r/min) for 1.5 min, LET stand
for 2 min; PIPETTE the supernatant and USE anhydrous sodium sulfate to dry;
after filtering by 0.45 μm filter membrane, USE gas chromatography-mass
spectrometry to determine.
5.2.2 Preparation of test solution of sunflower seed oil simulants
WEIGH 2 g (accurate to 0.1 mg) of the sunflower seed oil food simulants, which
are obtained from the migration test, in a 10 mL centrifuge tube with stopper;
ADD 2 mL of absolute ethyl alcohol to the centrifuge tube; after extracting by
vortex (1500 r/min) for 1 min, LET stand for 2 min; after high-speed
centrifugation (4000 r/min) by centrifuge for 5 min, immediately PIPETTE the
supernatant; after filtering by 0.45 μm filter membrane, USE gas
