Foreword
All the technical content in this Standard is compulsory.
This Standard is formulated in accordance with relevant technical content in ECER 28.
1993 Approved Uniform Standards of Sound Warning Devices and Acoustic Signals
for Motor Vehicles - Series 02. The main technical content of this Standard is
equivalent to it. There are merely slight differences in the stipulation of the maximum
sound pressure level of pneumatic and electric-pneumatic horns.
This Standard merely stipulates main characteristics and test methods of adopting
various horns on motor vehicles. Other requirements that are not stipulated in this
Standards shall comply with relevant industry standards.
In comparison with GB 15742-1995, there are the following differences.
1. The name of this Standard is modified into “Performance Requirements and
Test Methods of Horn for Motor Vehicles”; the scope of application is expanded
to include electric horns, pneumatic horns and electric-pneumatic horns;
Category-L3, Category-L4 and Category-L5 motorcycles are added as
applicable motor vehicle models.
2. “Semi-anechoic chamber” is added to the test environment.
3. Performance requirements of horn for motorcycles (power > 7 kW and power ≤
7 kW) are distinguished. Performance requirements of horn for motorcycles
(power > 7 kW) are the same as automobiles.
4. Performance requirements and test methods of horn for motor vehicles, and
performance requirements and test methods of horn installed on motor vehicles
are respectively listed as 2 main parts.
Since the date of implementation, this Standard shall serve as a replacement of GB
15742-1995.
Appendix A of this Standard is standard appendix.
This Standard is proposed by the State Administration of Machinery Industry.
This Standard is summarized by National Technical Committee on Automobile
Standardization.
This Standard is mainly drafted by the following organizations. Harbin FEIBEN Auto-
electric Appliance Co., Ltd., Shanghai SIIC Transportation Electric Co., Ltd., Hubei
