And the selection of track components shall be rational for matching, and beneficial for standardization and generalization. 1.0.5 Track design shall match with sub-track structures, and meet relevant technical requirements interfaces. 1.0.6 The track design of reconstructed existing line and constructed second track shall make full of existing track components and auxiliary equipment. 1.0.7 The track design shall meet the requirements on track structure gauge. 1.0.8 The track design shall attach great importance to environment protection, energy conservation susceptible to environmental impact, relevant shall be included for the track design according to the requirements of environmental impact assessment. 1.0.9 Spare parts and consumables shall be determined according to the needs of operation and during track design. 1.0.10 Advanced technology and equipment, as well as new techniques and materials shall be applied for track design. 1.0.11 Components and engineering materials of track structure shall comply with relevant valid national standards and regulations on market access. 1.0.12 In addition to this Code, track design shall also comply with relevant valid national standards.

3 Basic Requirements

3.1 General Requirements 3.1.1 The tracks of railway main line shall be designed as trans-section CWR track, while the tracks of main line of a heavy-haul railway may also be designed as section CWR track. CWR track shall be designed in compliance with provisions in relevant codes such as Code for Design of Railway Continuous Welded Rail (TB 10015). 3.1.2 The type of track structure of a main line shall be selected according to railway classification, design speed, axle load, annual gross traffic tonnage, engineering conditions of sub-track structure, environmental conditions, as well as requirements of maintenance. The selected track structure shall pass the techno-economic appraisal. The type of track structure for the high-speed railway, intercity-railway and heavy-haul railway shall comply with relevant codes for design. The mixed traffic railway should be built with ballasted track and shall comply with the following provisions. 1 Ballastless tracks should be laid for tunnels or tunnel groups longer than 1 km.

2 Ballasted track should be used for the section under special geological conditions where the

deformation is difficult to be controlled, such as the active fault zone, severe ground settlement deep frozen layer with high water level, and area with thick layer of soft soil.

3 Track structure of the same type shall be used in one relatively

transition section for track structures shall be set between the ballastless track and ballasted track. 3.1.3 Technical standards for the track serving loaded trains and the track serving empty trains in a double-track railway line shall be developed individually according to the annual gross traffic tonnage and design axle load when the annual gross traffic tonnage of the two tracks is significantly different from each other. 3.1.4 Major structures of the ballastless track shall be designed to serve 60 years. 3.1.5 The rail cant shall be 1. 40. 3.1.6 Track design shall comply with waterproofing and drainage requirements. In cold and cold areas, protection measures for freeze-thaw shall be taken, and the track shall be well connected to relevant specialized waterproofing and drainage systems. 3.1.7 The turnout shall not be set at the junction of the subgrade and the bridge abutment. Turnout of the main line with design speed of 200 km/h or above shall not be set at the beam joint , and should not be set in transition section between the subgrade and bridge (or culvert) , the subgrade and tunnel, the bridge and tunnel ,etc. 3.2 Curve Superelevation and Gauge Widening 3.2.1 Outer rail superelevation in curve shall be set according to the following requirements. well as guarantee passengers’ 1 In the new high-speed railway and intercity railway, the curve superelevation shall meet the needs of passengers’ comfort line, on through trains of the new line.

4 Rail and Fittings

4.0 .1 60 kg/m rail shall be used for the main line of a high-speed railway, intercity railway, or Class 工 mixed traffic railway:60 kg/m or 50 kg/m rail may be used for Class II mixed traffic railway. or above rail shall be used for the main line of a heavy-haul railway. 4.0.2 60 N or 75 N rails should be selected when rails of 60 kg/m or above are used to build the main line or stock rails of the turnout. 4 .0.3 The standard lengths of rail may be 100 m, 75 m, 25 m, and 12.5 m. For CWR track, the standard length of 60 kg/m rail should be 100 m and the standard length of 75 kg/m rail should be 75 more 100 m. For jointed track, the standard length of rail should be 25m. 4.0.4 Material quality of rail for the high-speed railway and the intercity railway shall comply with the following provisions. 1 U71MnG rail with the tensile strength of 880 MPa shall be selected for the high-speed railway and the intercity railway. 2 In-line heat treated rail of the radius smaller than or equal to 2 800 m, and for section with curve radius smaller than or equal to 1 200 that serve EMU operation including the running track, the connecting line and the station track section. 4.0.5 The material quality of rail for the mixed traffic railway shall comply with the following provisions. 1 Hot-rolled rail with tensile strength of 980 MPa shall be selected for the straight line and for the curve section with radius larger than 1 200 m, both with annual gross traffic tonnage more than or equal to 50 Mt.
