1 Scope

This section specifies the common terms and definitions of seawater desalination technology. This part applies to the compilation of books and periodicals, the formulation of relevant standards, technical documents, and document translation.

2 Basic terminology

2.1 Freshwater Water whose total salt content is less than or equal to 1000mg/L. 2.2 Productwater The water with a lower total salt content than the raw water obtained after treatment by the desalination device does not include the condensed water of external input steam. 2.3 Brackishwater Water with a total salt content greater than 1000mg/L. 2.4 Brine brine The water discharged after treatment by the desalination device has a higher salt content than the raw water. 2.5 Desalination The process of removing salt from water with high salt content and producing fresh water. 2.6 Seawater desalination The process of removing salt from seawater and producing fresh water. 2.7 Waterintake The process of obtaining raw water from the source of water. 2.8 Pretreatment The process of purifying raw water before desalination. 2.9 Total salt content totalsalts The total amount of various electrolytes (salts) in the water.
