Man-Made Fibers - Test Method of Moisture Regain1 ScopeThis Standard specifies the test method for moisture regain of man-made fiber, namely, oven weighting method and cold weighting method. This Standard is applicable to the man-made fiber.2 Normative ReferencesThe following documents are essential to the application of this document. For the dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable to this document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including all the amendments) are applicable to this document. GB/T 4146 (all parts) Textiles – Man-Made Fibers GB/T 6502 Sampling Method of Man-Made Filament Yarns3 Terms and DefinitionsThe following terms and definitions and those ones stipulated in GB/T 4146 (all parts) are applicable to this document. 3.1 Constant mass The specimen is treated and separated for a certain time; then the difference of two weightings before and after treatment doesn’t exceed the specified range. 3.2 Oven weighting Bake the specimen to remove moisture within the oven; then use the balance attached to the oven to weigh the specimen mass within the oven.4 PrinciplePlace the specimen into the oven with specified temperature, bake it and remove the moisture to the constant mass;5 Apparatus5.1 Oven The oven weighting adopts the ventilated oven attached with weighing device in the oven; the oven temperature accuracy is ±3°C. 5.2 Balance The balance shall meet the following requirements. 5.3 Sample container It is used for holding specimen, it shall be sealed and don’t absorb moisture. 5.4 Weighing box It is used for cold weighting, with good airtightness and known mass.6 General Rules of Test6.1 Extraction of sample in laboratory 6.1.1 The sampling of staple fiber shall be as specified in GB/T 14334. 6.1.2 The sampling of filament shall be as specified in GB/T 6502.The laboratory sample is combined and twisted, then cut the specimen. 6.2 Specimen quantity Sampling 2 specimens from each batch of samples, then take the parallel test. 6.3 Test requirements 6.3.1 Moisture regain test 6.3.2 Standard moisture regain test 6.3.2.1 Provisions The specimen is preconditioned (if necessary), conditioned; the weighing outside the oven shall be implemented under standard atmosphere. If the atmosphere entering into the oven is non-standard atmosphere, then the mass after baking shall be corrected as per Appendix A. 6.3.2.3 Standard atmosphere for conditioning and test 6.3.2.3.1 For the fiber with conventional moisture regain less than 4.5%, the standard atmosphere for conditioning and test. temperature of (20±2)°C, relative humidity (65±5)%. 6.3.2.3.2 For the fiber with conventional moisture regain greater than or equal to 4.5%, the standard atmosphere for conditioning and test. temperature of (20±2)°C, relative humidity (65±3)%.7 Test Procedures7.1 Oven weighting method (arbitration method) 7.1.1 Take 50g of specimen, accurate to 0.01g, record it as the mass before baking. 7.1.2 The oven thermometer was adjusted to the desired controlled drying temperature (see Table 2). 7.1.3 Place the specimen into the basket of the oven, wait until the temperature in the oven rises to the specified temperature, record the time; after baking to the drying time (see Table 2), begin to weigh; weighing once every 10 minutes; bake to the constant mass, record the mass of the last weighing as the mass after baking. 7.2 Cold weighting method 7.2.1 Take about 10g of specimen, put into the weighing box to weigh together, accurate to 0.001g. 7.3 Infrared (or halogen) moisture analyzer method The infrared (or halogen) moisture analyzer method can refer to Appendix B; this Dacron, chinlon, vinylon, polyphenylene sulphide,8 Result Calculation8.1 Moisture content shall be calculated as per Formula (1). 8.3 Take the arithmetic average of the two specimens to represent the moisture content and moisture regain of such batch of samples. 8.4 The test data shall be rounded off to 2 digits after the decimal point.9 Test ReportThe test report shall contain the following contents. ......Source: Above contents are excerpted from the full-copy PDF -- translated/reviewed by: www.ChineseStandard.net / Wayne Zheng et al.
