NATIONAL STANDARD
OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA
Code for Design of Electric Distribution of
General-purpose Utilization Equipment
ISSUED ON. JULY 26, 2011
IMPLEMENTED ON. JUNE I, 2012
Jointly Issued by Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People's
Republic of China
General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and
Quarantine of the People's Republic of China
Foreword
According to the requirements of the former Ministry of Construction-"Notice on Printing and
Publishing Development and Revision Plan of National Standards in 2002-2003" (Jian Biao [2003]
No. 102), this code is revised from the original "Code for Design of Electric Distribution of General-
purpose Utilization Equipment" GB 50055- 93 by China New Era International Engineering Corporation
jointly with all the organizations concerned.
During the revision process. the drafting group revised this code based on extensive investigation
and study. summarizing the experience in using process of the original code, combining the development
level of science and technology and productivity, and based on the principle of "uniformity, coordination,
simplification and optimization", and finalized upon review based on soliciting for the opinions of
extensive design, research, production and other organizations concerned.
This code comprises 8 chapters with the main contents including general provisions, motor, crane
and transportation equipment, electric welder, electroplate, charge of storage battery, power supply for
electrostatic filter and indoor household and similar electrical appliances.
Main contents of this revision . CD Application scopes of all chapters and sections are unified into
general provisions; @ The above 3kW motor of continuous operation specified in the original code
should be installed with overload protection is adjusted that the motor of continuous operation should
be installed with overload protection; ® The use of low voltage circuit breaker and satisfactory
disconnecting switch for control apparatus of motor is widened;© "3kV-IOkV motor" is separated
into a section; @ The use of "rigid copper sliding wires" is added in "crane"; @ The requirements for
the installation form of sockets for '·special locations" are added in the original code "household and
similar electrical appliances"; CT) Supplement, perfection and necessary modification are made for the
main technical contents of the original code.
In this code, the provisions in bold type are compulsory ones and must be enforced strictly.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development is in charge of the administration of this
code and the explanation of the compulsory provisions. China Machinery Industry Federation is
responsible for the routine management, and China New Era International Engineering Corporation is
responsible for the explanation of specific technical contents. During the process of implementing this
code, all organizations are kindly requested to sum up experience, accumulate data and timely feed
back opinions, suggestions and relevant data to China New Era International Engineering Corporation

2 Motor
2.1 Selection of Motor
2.1.1 Electrical and mechanical parameters such as worki ng system, rated power, locked-rotor
torque, minimum torque. maximum torque, rotational speed and its adjustment range, of motors, shall
meet the requirements of the machine driven by motors (hereinafter referred to as "machine") under
various operating modes.
2.1.2 The selection of the motor type shall meet the fo llowing requirements.
1 Where the machine has no specific requirements for statt, speed regulating and braking, cage
type motors shall be adopted; as for the continuous-working machine with larger power, synchronous
motors should be adopted, upon bei ng reasonable by technical and economic comparison.
2 Wound rotor motors should be adopted under either of the following conditions.
1) Where the cage type motor cannot satisfy the stall requirements of the machine stalled
under heavy load, or where the motor has irrational power boosting;
2) Where the machine with sho1t speed regulating range runs for a short time.
3 Where the machine has specific requirements for start, speed regulating and braking, the type
and speed regulating mode of motors shall be determined according to comparison in technology and
economy. Where an AC motor cannot satisfy the property required by the machine, a DC motor
should be adopted; the DC motor may be adopted for the emergency unit that must continue to run
after the AC power supply fails.
4 Speed regulating devices and motors of corresponding type shall be selected and adopted for
the machine, such as blowers or pumps, running under varying load upon being reasonable by the
technical and economic compari son.
2.1.3 The selection of motors ' rated power shall meet the following requirements.
1 For the machine under smooth load when working continuously, the motor with maximum
continuous rating shall be adopted, and the rated power sha ll be selected in accordance with the
machine's shaft power. Where the machine is sta1ted under heavy load, the rated powers of both cage
type motors and synchronous motors shall be verified in accordance with the starti ng conditions. For
the synchronous motor, its pull-in-torque shall be verified as wel l.
2 For the machine in short-term-operation, the motor with short-time rating shall be adopted,
and the rated power shall be selected in accordance with the shaft power. Where there are no short-
time-rated motors in appropriate specification, cycl ing-rated motors may be selected according to
permitted-overload-torque.
3 f or the machine in non-interruption cycle working, the corresponding cycling-rated motor
sha ll be adopted, its rated power should be selected according to different load-duration-factors and
permitted-output-powers in different sta1ting times provided by the manufacturer, as well as according
to the rated load-duration-factor converted by the equivalent load in typical cycle, and shall be
verified in accordance with the perm itted-overload-torque.
1 The setting current of thermal overload relays or overload releases shall be close to but not
less than the rated current of the motor.
2 The operation-time-limit of the overload protection shall be distinguished from the time
during which the motor starts normally or self-started. The setting current of thermal overload relays
shall be determined in accordance with the following formula.
(2.3.9)
Where l,d--The setting current of the thermal overload relay (A);
led--The rated current of the motor (A);
Kk-- The confidence coefficient, being 1.2 operated for power breakdown and 1.05 operated
for signal;
~x--The connection coefficient, being 1.0 where connected to phase current and where
connected to phase-current-difference;
Ki,--The restoring coefficient of relays, being 0.85;
n--The current transformer variation.
3 Overload protective devices may be short-circuited or cut away within ce1iain time limit in
the process o...
