1 Scope

This document specifies the general requirements for the safe operation of tank cleaning on oil tankers, as well as the requirements for safe operations such as tank washing, crude oil washing, degassing, and tank cleaning. This document is applicable to tank cleaning operations of oil tankers of 150 gross tonnage and above in the waters under the jurisdiction of the People's Republic of China.

3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document. 3.1 tankwashing The operation of cleaning the inner surface of cargo oil tank and its components through tank washing equipment using water, crude oil, chemical cleaning agent, etc. as a medium. 3.2 tankwashingmachines Driven by the driving device, the tank washing equipment can change the spray angle of the nozzle in different directions. Note. The tank washing machine is divided into fixed tank washing machine and mobile tank washing machine, and there are single nozzle, multi nozzle and other types. 3.3 crude oil washing The oil tanker transporting crude oil uses the cargo oil carried as the cleaning medium, sprays it into the cargo oil tank under high pressure through the tank washing machine and relies on the crude oil itself The operation of washing off the oil residue adhering to the bulkhead, structural members and bilge, and discharging it out of the tank together with the cargo oil. 3.4 waterwashing The operation of cleaning the inner surface of the cargo oil tank and its components through tank washing equipment using water as a medium. Including flue gas, nitrogen, etc. 3.6 Inert state inertcondition After the cargo oil tank is filled with inert gas, the oxygen content of the gas in the tank has dropped to 8% or less by volume.
