Furniture1 ScopeThis Part of GB 5296 specifies the basic requirements, methods and the required contents for compiling instructions for use of furniture. This Part is applicable to the compilation of instructions for use for various furniture.2 Normative ReferencesThe following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in this Part of GB 5296, become provisions of this Part. For dated reference, subsequent amendments (excluding corrigendum content) or revisions do not apply to this Part. However, parties who enter into an agreement according to this standard are encouraged to study whether the latest edition of these documents can be used. For any undated references, the latest edition of the quoted normative document applies to this Part. GB 5296.1-1997 Instructions for Use of Products of Consumer Interest - General Principles3 Basic Requirements3.1 Furniture on sale must have instructions for use (labels, nameplates, instructions for use, etc.). 3.5 If the toxic substances or radioactivity contained in the materials and paints of the furniture are within the allowable limits of the relevant national regulations, and if the furniture is not used properly they may cause adverse effect to the consumers, the instructions for use must clearly indicate detail contents such as cautions for use, protection measures etc. 3.6 When the structure, type and materials of the furniture have been changed, the relevant contents in the instructions for use must be modified correspondingly and in time, according to the required procedures. The manufacturer must provide the users with corresponding instructions for use. 3.7 Instructions for use may be prepared according to specific furniture or furniture classification. For the preparation according to furniture classification, it shall obviously indicate those parts whose parameters or content requirements are different. 3.8 For the instructions for use provided to the consumer together with the furniture, the specific type and production date of the purchased furniture must be indicated. 3.9 The publication date must be indicated in the instructions for use. 3.10 The instructions for use must be consistent with those materials distributed or disseminated by the manufacturer or sellers, such as the contents of propaganda material and advertisement etc. 3.11 If necessary, "Please read instructions for use before installing and using furniture" must be indicated on the prominent cover position of the instructions for use. 4 The Provided Position, Mode and Type of the Instructions for Use According to the requirements of transport and use, the instructions for use shall be provided in any of or several of the following ways.5 Compilation Requirements5.1 Letters 5.1.1 Instructions for use in Chinese must be provided for the furniture supplied to the domestic users. As for the instructions for use containing descriptions in Chinese and foreign language, the headline in Chinese must be striking, highlighted and the descriptions in Chinese must be placed before the foreign language. 5.1.4 When the instructions for use is translated into other languages, the translated version must be accurate. The whole process of translation, including checking, must be completed by authoritative language experts and technical experts. 5.2 Expression 5.2.1 The expression of instructions for use shall be in the method and procedures which will help the consumers to understand and grasp the contents correctly and rapidly. For example, the instructions for use of assembly furniture must ensure the consumers to understand and grasp assembly in the shortest time. 5.2.2 As for complex operation procedures, instructions for use shall adopt diagram, chart and operational flowchart to explain and to help the users to grasp the contents successfully. 5.2.3 Instructions for use shall consider the problems which may be encountered during the use by consumer. For example, the problems encountered in different time (season), different places, and different environment conditions. And precautions and solutions shall be provided. 5.3 Figures, tables, symbols and terms 5.3.1 In the instructions for use, the figures and tables shall be printed closely to the main body; figures and tables shall be numbered in sequence. 5.3.2 When a figure or a table in fore-text is quoted, the figure number and table number shall be indicated and the page number where the figure or the table firstly appears on shall be noted. 5.5 Printing 5.5.1 The printing materials of instructions for use shall be solid and durable, and to ensure the instructions for use to remain useable during the life cycle of the furniture. 5.5.2 Formal printing shall be adopted for the instructions for use of batch-produced customized furniture. 5.5.3 The letters, symbols, figures, tables and pictures in the instructions for use must be distinctive and neat. For double-side printing, reading must not been affected by problems such as print-through. 5.6 Text 5.6.1 64, 32 and 16 format may be adopted for instructions for use, and other format may be adopted if necessary. 5.7 Safety warnings Instructions for use must provide safety warning related to the contents of safety aspects.
