3 Terms and definitions

The terms and definitions as defined in GB/T 12604.1, GB/T 20306, GB/T 20737, GB/T 34370.1 as well as the following terms and definitions apply to this document. 3.1 Loss of back reflection caused by flaws BG/BF (dB) The ratio of the first bottom-wave amplitude BG in a flaw-free region which is close to the flaw to the first bottom-wave amplitude BF in the flaw region, expressed by the value of sound pressure level (dB). 3.2 Basic and scanning sensitivities The basic sensitivity generally refers to the recording sensitivity, which is usually used for the quantitation of flaws and the classification of flaws. The scanning sensitivity mainly refers to the actual testing sensitivity. In order not to miss recording flaws or certain specific flaws, to ensure the safety of the amusement equipment, the actual testing is usually carried out by a high testing sensitivity for scanning. In principle, the scanning sensitivity shall not be lower than the basic sensitivity. 3.3 Focusing angle beam probe An ultrasonic angle beam probe that uses a focusing method such as a lenticular, an emissive, a curved wafer, to converge the ultrasonic beam to improve testing sensitivity. 3.4 Tip diffraction During the propagation of ultrasonic waves, when the wave-front passes through the flaw, the wave-front will bend around the edge of the flaw and spread in the center of the circle. 3.5 Maximum tip reflected wave When the amplitude of the end echo of the flaw reaches a maximum (that is, the instantaneous amplitude position before the peak of the flaw end’s echo- peak starts to fall), the echo is called the maximum tip reflected wave. 3.6 Echo dynamic patterns The dynamic waveform is the envelope of the probe's moving distance and the echo’s amplitude change of the corresponding flaw reflector.

4 Summary of method

4.1 Ultrasonic waves are mechanical waves which have a frequency higher than 20 kHz. The frequency which is commonly used for ultrasonic testing in industrial non-destructive testing is 0.5 MHz ~ 5 MHz. 4.2 Ultrasonic waves propagate in the material at a certain speed and direction. When a heterogeneous interface (such as a flaw or the bottom-surface of the object to be tested) with different acoustic impedance is encountered, it will reflect or diffract. 4.3 Reflective ultrasonic testing is to use this reflection phenomenon for flaw testing or thickness measurement. Figures 1a) ~ c) are schematic diagrams for type-A pulse oblique incident ultrasonic testing, type-A pulse direct incident ultrasonic testing, type-A pulse reflective ultrasonic thickness measurement.

5 Safety requirements
