1 Scope
This Document specifies the same type determination, general requirements, light source
requirements, photometric characteristics requirements, chromaticity requirements, test
methods and inspection rules of light-signally devices and devices and systems for motor
vehicles and their trailers.
This Document applies to the design, manufacture and acceptance of light-signaling devices
and systems such as front position lamps, rear position lamps, direction-indicator lamps, stop
lamps, reversing lamps, end-outline marker lamps, parking lamps, daytime running lamps, rear-
registration plate illuminating devices, rear fog lamps, maneuvering lamps, side marker lamps,
and light-signaling projection units used in Categories-M, -N, and -O vehicles.
2 Normative References
The provisions in following documents become the essential provisions of this Document
through reference in this Document. For the dated documents, only the versions with the dates
indicated are applicable to this Document; for the undated documents, only the latest version
(including all the amendments) is applicable to this Document.

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this Document, the terms and definitions given in GB 4785 and the
following apply.
3.1 Light-signaling device
A unit or unit group that is used to send out light signals to other road users to indicate the
presence or change of the vehicle's motion state and to achieve one or more functions.
NOTE. In this Document, it is referred to as "device", which includes one or more of the
following. front position lamp, rear position lamp, direction-indication lamp, stop lamp,
reversing lamp, end-outline marker lamp, parking lamp, daytime running lamp, rear-
registration plate illuminating device, rear fog lamp, maneuvering lamp, side marker lamp, and
light-signaling projection unit.
3.2 Light-signaling system
A system consisting of multiple devices and controllers on the same or both sides, used to send
light signals to other road users to indicate the presence of a vehicle or a change in its motion
state.
NOTE. It is referred to as "system" in this Document.
3.3 Stop lamp
A lamp that indicates to other road users behind the vehicle that the vehicle is braking.

3.5 Rear position lamp
A lamp that indicates the presence and width of a vehicle when viewed from behind.

3.6 End-outline marker lamp
The lamp with the installation position that is close as possible to the outer edge and roof of the
vehicle to indicate the width of the vehicle.

4 Judgment of the Same Type
Devices that do not differ in the following main features are considered to be of the same type.
--- Manufacturer;
--- The number, type, lighting principle, and light source module structure of the used
replaceable or non-replaceable light sources;
--- The number and structure of main optical components (e.g., reflectors, photometric
mirrors, light guides, variable light intensity controllers, etc.).
5 General Requirements
5.1 Front/rear position lamps
5.2 Direction-indicator lamp
5.2.1 Classification

5.4 Light-signaling devices and systems with luminous logos
5.5 Stop lamp
The apparent surface area of Categories-S1 and -S2 stop lamps in the direction of the reference
axis shall be no less than 15cm2.This requirement is not assessed when the rear fog lamps are
turned on.
5.6 Daytime running lamp
The apparent surface area of daytime running lamps in the direction of the reference axis shall
be no less than 25cm2 and no more than 200cm2.
5.7 Rear fog lamp
5.8 Rear-registration plate illuminating device
The rear-registration plate illuminating device shall make the entire registration plate visible
within the angles given in C.4 of Appendix C. The device shall not emit direct light to the rear,
except when combined with other lamps and composited to emit red light.
6 Requirements for Light Source
6.1 Replaceable light sources
6.1.1 The light source shall be able to be installed in the correct position of the lamp even in

7 Requirements for Photometric Characteristics
7.1 Requirements within the light intensity distribution range
7.1.1 The light intensity in the direction of the reference axis shall meet the requirements of
7.1.2 The light intensity distribution of each light-signaling device shall comply with the
requirements of Appendix D. If visual inspection finds that the light intensity varies
significantly, the light intensity measured between any two measuring directions shall be no
less than 50% of the lower light intensity measured value in the two measuring directions.
7.1.3 For rear position lamps and/or end-outline marker lamps mixed with stop lamps, when
both functions are lit simultaneously and when the rear position lamps or rear end-outline
marker lamps are lit separately, the measured light intensity ratio within the range of 5° above
and below the H-H line and 10° to the left and right of the V-V line shall be at least 5.1.If one
or two of the above-mentioned mixed lamps contain more than one light source and are single
lamps, the measurement results shall take all light sources into account.
7.1.4 For rear position lamps, end-outline marker lamps and/or rear parking lamps mixed with
stop lamps, the maximum light intensity limit in the plane 5° below the H-H line and below it
shall be 60cd.
7.2 Requirements for light intensity within the photometric angle range
7.2.1 The photometric angle shall comply with the requirements of Appendix C. The minimum
light intensity within the photometric angle range shall comply with the requirements of Table
2; and the maximum light intensity shall not exceed the maximum value specified in Table 1.
7.2.2 The photometric angle shall comply with the requirements of Appendix C. The maximum
light intensity of the reversing lamps, maneuvering lamps and light-signaling projection
functions shall comply with the requirements of Table 3.
7.3 Requirements when light source fails
7.3.1 For a single lamp containing more than one light source, if all light sources fail when any
light source fails, it is considered a single lamp with a single light source.
7.3.2 When any light source fails in a single lamp with multiple light sources, at least one of
the following requirements shall be met.
a) All test points shall still meet the minimum light intensity requirements in 7.1 and 7.2;
b) The vehicle equipped with the device is mounted with a working indicator and shows that
the device has failed.
7.4 Requirements for light-signaling system
7.4.1 The system light intensity shall not exceed the maximum light intensity of a single lamp
in Table 1.
7.4.2 The system shall meet the following requirements.
7.5 Additional requirements for devices with variable light intensity controllers
7.6 Additional requirements for front position lamps equipped with infrared radiation
generators
If it contains one or more infrared radiation generators, the photometric characteristics and
chromaticity of the front position lamp shall meet the requirements both when the infrared
radiation generator is working and when it is not working. The photometric characteristics shall
meet the requirements of 7.1 and 7.2; and the chromaticity shall meet the corresponding
provisions in GB 4785.
8 Chromaticity Requirements for Light-Signaling Devices
8.1 Chromaticity requirements shall comply with the requirements of GB 4785, except for the
following cases.
8.2 The chromaticity of the light-signaling projection function shall be the same as the
corresponding light-signaling function.
9 Test Method
9.1 Requirements for test darkroom, device and equipment
9.1.1 The test darkroom shall be free of light leakage, and its environmental conditions shall

9.2.1 Test voltage for non-replaceable light sources
9.2.1.1 For devices that are not equipped with an electric light source controller or a variable
light intensity controller, the test shall be carried out at 13.5V or 28.0V, respectively.
9.2.1.2 For devices equipped with electric light source controllers or variable light intensity
controllers, the photometric characteristics test shall be carried out according to the
manufacturer's instructions.
a) When the variable light intensity controller is part of the lamp, the manufacturer shall
specify the input voltage of the lamp. If not specified, it shall be 13.5V or 28.0V
respectively;
b) When the variable light intensity controller is not part of the lamp, the input voltage of
the lamp shall be the voltage specified by the manufacturer.
9.2.2 Test voltage of replaceable light sources
9.2.3 Lighting mode
9.2.5 Test of rear-registration plate illuminating device
The brightness value of the test shall be corrected according to the diffuse reflection coefficient.
9.2.6 Test of light-signaling devices and systems with luminous logos
When testing luminous logos, the longitudinal symmetric plane of the vehicle shall be used as
the dividing plane, and the light-signaling devices and systems on the same side shall be tested
together.
9.2.7 Heat resistance test of rear fog lamps
9.2.8 When the device has multiple installation positions
When the device is installed on the vehicle and has more than one angular position or multiple
different angular positions in one area, the photometric characteristics measurement shall be
carried out at all positions separately, or the extreme angular positions of the reference axis
specified by the manufacturer in the area shall be measured.
9.2.9 Devices equipped with non-filament light sources
9.2.9.1 Steady light intensity means that the light intensity change of the test point specified by
the device is less than 3% within any 15 min or less than 1% within any 5 min.
9.2.9.2 For reversing lamps, the light intensity values measured after 1 min and 10 min of
lighting shall meet the requirements of Tables 1 and 3.The light intensity of each point 1 min
and 10 min after lighting shall be obtained by multiplying light intensity of each point measured
after the light intensity is steady BY the ratio of the value of the HV point measured after 1 min
and 10 min of lighting and the light intensity of such point measured after the light intensity is
steady.
9.2.9.3 For maneuvering lamps, the light intensity values measured 1 min and 10 min after
lighting shall meet the maximum value requirements in Table 3.The light intensity of each
point 1 min and 10 min after lighting shall be obtained by multiplying the light intensity of each
point measured after the light intensity is steady BY the ratio of the value measured at the HV
point 1 min and 10 min after lighting and the light intensity of the point measured after the light
intensity is steady.
9.2.9.4 For other devices, the light intensity measurement results 1 min and 30 min after lighting
shall meet the maximum value requirements in Tables 1 and 3, and the minimum value
requirements in Table 2.The light intensity of each point 1 min after lighting shall be obtained
by multiplying the ratio of the light intensity at the HV point or the reference axis 1 min and 30
min lighting BY the light intensity measurement results of each point 30 min after lighting.
9.2.9.5 For the light-signaling projection function, the light intensity value measured after
lighting for 1 min and 10 min or 30 min (maintaining the same corresponding light-signaling
function) shall meet the maximum value requirements in Table 3.
10 Inspection Rules
10.1 Type inspection
10.1.1 Information and samples to be provided by the manufacturer
10.1.1.1 Drawing requirements
A drawing of the device shall be provided, indicating the geometric position of the device
installed on the vehicle (for light-signaling devices installed in the vehicle, the position relative
to the transmission window), including the reference axis, reference center, projection area of
the vehicle longitudinal symmetry plane in the direction of the reference axis (if any, the front
or rear light logos that are asymmetrical relative to the longitudinal symmetry plane of the
vehicle shall be provided) and information on the mutual storage lamp system (if any).
10.1.1.2 Technical specification requirements
The technical specification shall state the following.
a) Whether the device that needs to pass the type inspection is one of a pair of devices of the
same type.
b) Whether the device produces a steady light intensity or a variable light intensity. For
devices that produce variable light intensity, the corresponding information and system
description, as well as the function and installation conditions of the variable light
intensity controller shall be provided.
c) For light-signaling devices installed in the vehicle, the optical parameters of the window
(at least including transmittance, color, inclination, etc.) shall also be provided.
d) Height of the reversing lamp from the ground.
e) Height of the maneuvering lamp from the ground and the direction of the reference axis.
f) Dimensions of the rear-registration plate.
g) If the device has different installation positions or different installation angles on the
vehicle (such as the reference axis relative to the vehicle reference plane, the angle
relative to the ground or the reference axis of the device itself), these different installation
conditions shall be noted in the technical specifications.
h) Type of the used light source.
1) If a filament light source is used, provide its type in UN R37 and R.E.5;
2) If an LED light source is used, provide its type in UN R128 and R.E.5;
3) If a light source module in 6.2 is used, provide its type and parameters, including the
specifications, dimensions, photoelectric parameters and target luminous flux of the
light source module.
i) For devices controlled by electric light sources, corresponding information descriptions
shall be provided.
j) Whether it is equipped with a working indicator or fault monitoring function during
installation.
k) The projection signal function needs to provide a description of the road projection range
and projection symbol.
10.1.1.3 Sample requirements
The samples provided shall include the following.
a) 2 sample lamps (including lamp sources); if the device is symmetrical and has the same
function, and is installed on both sides of the vehicle, the sample lamps can be 2 samples
on the same side, or one on each side. For the case where the front position lamp or rear
position lamp contains an asymmetrical luminous logo relative to the longitudinal
symmetry plane of the vehicle, one on each side shall be provided.
b) For devices containing variable light intensity, a variable light intensity controller or a
generator providing the same signal shall be provided.
c) For devices controlled by electric light sources, an electric light source controller or the
input conditions when the device is working shall be provided.
d) For light-signaling devices installed in the vehicle, relevant window samples shall be
submitted at the same time (if there is more than one installation situation, samples
corresponding to all situations shall be provided).
10.1.2 Type inspection requirements
10.1.2.1 Tests shall be conducted in accordance with the provisions of Clause 9.Each sample
shall comply with the corresponding provisions of Clauses 5 to 8.
10.1.2.2 Devices that have passed the type inspection as front position lamps or rear position
lamps may be considered to comply with the type inspection requirements for end-outline
marker lamps.
10.2 Production consistency inspection
10.2.1 For products that have passed the type inspection, sample lamps shall be randomly
selected from the batch products to determine their production consistency.
10.2.2 The randomly selected sample lamps shall comply with the corresponding provisions in
Clause 5.
10.2.3 Tests shall be conducted in accordance with Clause 9.Sample lamps shall comply with
the corresponding provisions of Clauses 7 and 8.The minimum light intensity shall be no less
than 80% of the specified minimum value; and the maximum light intensity shall be no greater
than 120% of the specified maximum value.
11 Implementation of the Standard
11.1 From the date of implementation of this Document, the front position lamps, rear position
lamps, direction-indicator lamps, end-outline marker lamps, parking lamps, daytime running
lamps, rear-registration plate illuminating devices, rear fog lamps, maneuvering lamps, side
marker lamps, light-signaling projection units and other light-signaling devices and systems
used by new vehicles and trailers applying for type approval shall comply with this Document.
For reversing lamps and stop lamps that are newly applied for type approval, implementation
shall begin from the 19th month from the date of implementation of this Document.
11.2 For the light-signaling devices and systems of vehicles and trailers that have been approved
by type, implementation shall begin from the 37th month from the date of implementation of
this Document.
11.3 For the vehicle models that are newly applied for type approval, implementation shall
begin from the 37th month from the date of implementation of this Document.
11.4 For the vehicle models that have been approved by type, implementation shall begin from
the 37th month from the date of implementation of this Document.
