Electric vehicle conductive charge coupler
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terminology and definition, technical parameters,
charging mode, classification and functional definition, structural dimensions,
performance requirements, test methods and inspection rules for the
conductive charge coupler of electric vehicles.
The standard specifies two kinds of charge couplers. one is to provide AC power
supply to the on-board charger AND the other is to provide DC power supply to
the electric vehicles.
This standard applies to the charging cables of AC rated voltage 220 V AND
DC rated voltage not exceeding 750 V which are used for the electric vehicles
as well as the conductive charge coupler used at the connection side of the
electric vehicle; the conductive charge coupler used between the charging
cable and the off-board charging equipment or AC power supply can make
reference to this standard.
2 Normative references
The provisions in following documents become the provisions of this Standard
through reference in this Standard. For the dated references, the subsequent
amendments (excluding corrections) or revisions do not apply to this Standard;
however, parties who reach an agreement based on this Standard are
encouraged to study if the latest versions of these documents are applicable.
For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document applies.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions as established in GB/T 18487.1, GB/T
19596 and GB/T 20234 AND the following terms and definitions apply to this
standard.
3.1
Charge coupler
It refers to the charging parts used to connect the mobile cables and electric
vehicles, which is composed of the connector and inlet.
3.1.1
Connector
It refers to the charging parts which are structurally and electrically coupled
with the inlet in the conductive charging process of electric vehicle; AND it
composes the charging cable with the mobile cable through assembly
connection or integration.
3.1.2
Inlet
It refers to the parts which are installed onto the electric vehicle or power
supply equipment for the purposes of coupling the connector.
3.2
Conductive charge
It refers to the method of charging the electric vehicle through electric
conduction.
3.3
7 Charge coupler structure size
As for the structure size of the AC charge coupler and the DC charge coupler,
SEE Appendix C.
8 Requirements
8.1 Structural requirements
8.1.1 The surfaces easily contacted by the connector and the inlet shall be free
from burrs, flashings or similar sharp edges.
8.1.2 The connector and the inlet shall be equipped with auxiliary protective
cover. The protective cover shall have a fixed connection between its parts and
accessories (such as chains, ropes, etc.) AND it shall not be able to be
disassembled without the use of tools.
8.1.3 The enclosures of the connector and the inlet shall be marked with the
manufacturer's name or trademark, product type, rated voltage and rated
current.
8.1.4 The terminals of the connector and the inlet shall be marked with the
symbol as specified in 4.2.
8.1.5 After the inlet is installed on the electric vehicle, its marking of the rated
voltage and the rated current shall be easily identifiable.
8.1.6 Color marking of charging mode.
In the distinct area of the connector (e.g. the control button surface of the
locking device), it shall use different colors to represent different charging
modes.
- Blue. Charging mode 1;
- Green. Charging mode 2;
- Yellow. Charging mode 3;
- Red. Charging mode 4.
8.1.7 Locking device.
The charge coupler shall have a lockout function to prevent accidental
disconnection during charging process. In the locked state, when applying twice
The force used in the entire process to insert and extract the charge connector
into/out of the power inlet AND the vehicle connector into/out of the vehicle inlet
shall comply with the requirements below.
- As for the AC charge coupler, it is less than 100N;
- As for the DC charge coupler, it is less than 140N.
The charge coupler can use the booster; AND if the booster is used, when
conducting insertion and pull-out operation, the operating force of the booster
shall satisfy the aforementioned conditions.
8.1.11 Breaking capacity.
8.1.11.1 As for the AC charge coupler which has the control guidance AND is
free from unload breaking during normal operation, if conducting test in
accordance with 9.7, it shall not cause the risk of fire or electric shock; after the
test is finished, it is not required for the device to maintain the original functions.
As for the DC charge coupler which has the control guidance AND is free from
unload breaking during normal operation, it does not require breaking capacity
test.
8.1.11.2 In the case of a charge coupler which does not have the control
guidance function OR the control guidance circuit cannot avoid loaded breaking,
when conducting test in accordance with 9.7, after the test, the sample shall be
free from damages which is detrimental to the continued use.
8.1.12 Protection degree.
8.1.12.1 When the connector and inlet are neither engaged nor protectively
covered, the protection degree shall be not less than IPXXB.
8.1.12.2 After connecting with the protective cover, the degree of protection of
the connector and the inlet shall respectively reach to IP54.
8.1.12.3 After the connector and the inlet are engaged, the degree of protection
shall respectively reach to IP55.
