Test Method of Compression Load for Automobile
Weather-strips
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the test method of compression load for automobile
weather-strips.
This Standard applies to the test of compression load for automobile weather-
strips.
2 Normative references
The terms in the following documents become the terms of this Standard by
reference to this Standard. For dated references, all subsequent amendments
(not including errata content) or revisions do not apply to this Standard.
However, parties to agreements that are based on this Standard are
encouraged to study whether the latest versions of these documents can be
used. For undated references, the latest edition applies to this Standard.
GB/T 2941, Standard temperature, humidity and time for environmental
regulation and testing of rubber samples (eqv ISO471:1983)
HG/T 2369, Rubber and plastic tensile testing machine technical conditions
GB/T 8170, Rules of rounding off of numerical values
3 Definition
3.1 Compression load
The force value when a sealing strip of certain length is compressed to a certain
height (or a certain amount of compression) at a predetermined speed.
4 Instruments and apparatuses
4.1 Tensile testing machine
The tensile testing machine shall comply with the relevant requirements of HG/T
2369; its measuring accuracy shall be class-A.
4.2 Test device
The test device consists of upper tooling and lower tooling, and its structure is
designed according to the product structure. If there is no special regulation,
the structure of Figure 1 is recommended.
5 Sample and state adjustment
5.1 Except for special requirements, three samples of length 100 mm ± 2 mm
shall be taken from the finished products respectively.
5.2 The time interval between the sample and vulcanization and the adjustment
of the sample before the test shall be carried out in accordance with the
provisions of GB/T 2941.
5.3 Before the test, the sample shall be parked for at least 3 hours in an
environment where the temperature is (23 ± 2) °C and the relative humidity is
(50 ± 5) %. The sample shall not be pressurized during the parking period.

6 Test steps
6.1 According to the product test requirements, select the test mode, set the
test speed, compression height and other parameters. Except for special

provisions of the product, the test speed is set to 30 mm/min. 30% of the height
of the sealing part can be used as the reference compression displacement
height.
6.2 Install the upper and lower toolings on the tensile tester; during installation,
the load line that is applied in the test shall match the centerline of the sample.
6.3 During measurement, the upper plane of the lower test tooling or the upper
end of the flange is usually used as the compression displacement reference
(see Figure 1).
6.4 Install the sample and start the test machine. Use the pressing board to
compress the sample to a predetermined height at a specified speed; record
the relationship between the compression load and the deformation.
7 Test result expression
Take the arithmetic mean of all the test data as the test result; round the
calculation result to one decimal place according to GB/T 8170.
8 Test report
The test report shall contain the following contents:
a) test name, number:
b) number of this Standard;
c) source of the sample;
d) test conditions: compression speed, compression height and other
relevant parameters;
e) device name and number:
f) indicator value;
g) test result;
h) tester and date.
