The content that is stipulated in Q/BQB 640-2018 Thick Steel Plate for Pipelines, which
was formulated and published by our company, complies with relevant national laws
and regulations, and requirements in compulsory standards and relevant industrial
policies. In accordance with the stipulated procedure, this Standard was approved and
issued by our enterprise’s legal representative.
Products that are produced by our company comply with the various technical
requirements stipulated in this Standard. The serial number of standards is clearly
indicated on corresponding product packages. Our company undertakes the

Technical Indicator 1
Name of indicator: main technical indicators, such as composition and properties

6.8.1 On the surface of steel plates, there shall be no defects that are detrimental to
the usage, such as cracks, scars, folds, bubbles, inclusions and visible stratifications.
If the above-mentioned defects exist, the removal of the defects is allowed. The depth
of such removal shall not exceed half of the thickness tolerance. The area of removal
shall be smooth; there shall be no sharp edges.
6.8.2 On the surface of steel plates, partial defects that would not affect the usage are
allowed to exist. However, the allowable minimum thickness of steel plates shall be
guaranteed.
6.8.3 In terms of steel plates which are untrimmed while being delivered, the depth of
edge cracks and other defects in the width direction shall not be more than half of the
allowable deviation of width. In addition, the minimum width of steel plates shall be
guaranteed.
6.8.4 The surface of steel plates does not allow welding repairs.
6.9 Non-destructive Testing
The demand-side may select the grade of ultrasonic testing in accordance with Table
10, or, through the negotiation between the demand-side and the supply-side, it may
be otherwise stipulated in the contract.

Steel plates shall receive UT testing piece by piece. UT adopts standard ISO 10893-
9. Conduct 100% scanning of 100 mm of plate edges and plate body. The grade of
acceptance check is ISO 10893-9 U2/B2.
UB
Steel plates shall receive UT testing piece by piece. UT adopts standard ISO 10893-
9. Conduct 100% scanning of 100 mm of plate edges and plate body. Stratification
within 150 mm around steel plates shall be considered as defects. This kind of
defects shall be removed. In any direction of plate body, stratification whose length
exceeds 50 mm shall not exist. The mutual gap among stratifications whose length
is 30 ~ 50 mm shall be more than 500 mm. Several small stratifications, whose
length is less than 30 mm, and whose mutual gap is less than plate thickness,
constitute a serial stratification. In this serial stratification, the total length of all the
small stratifications shall not be more than 80 mm.

within 150 mm around steel plates shall be considered as defects. This kind of
defects shall be removed. In any direction of plate body, stratification whose length
exceeds 50 mm shall not exist. The mutual gap among stratifications whose length
is 30 ~ 50 mm shall be more than 500 mm. Several small stratifications, whose
length is less than 30 mm, and whose mutual gap is less than plate thickness,
constitute a serial stratification. In this serial stratification, the total length of all the
small stratifications shall not be more than 80 mm.
A.4 Ultrasonic Testing
In terms of ultrasonic testing of steel plates for PSL2 pipelines under acid service
conditions, the demand-side may select the grade of ultrasonic testing in accordance
with Table A.3, or, through the negotiation between the demand-side and the supply-
side, this may be otherwise stipulated in the contract. Table 10 in this Standard is not
applicable here.

9. Conduct 100% scanning of 100 mm of plate edges and plate body. Acceptance
check needs to comply with API 5L 45th Appendix K. In Table K.1, service conditions
are the requirements of “acid service conditions”.
UB
Steel plates shall receive UT testing piece by piece. UT adopts standard ISO 10893-
9. Conduct 100% scanning of 100 mm of plate edges and plate body. Acceptance
check needs to comply with API 5L 45th Appendix K. In Table K.1, service conditions
are the requirements of “acid service conditions, and with agreement”.
A.5 HIC Test (hydrogen induced cracking test)
A.5.1 HIC sample
HIC sample shall be taken in accordance with the requirements in NACE TM 0284.
A.5.2 HIC test frequency
HIC test frequency is: test once per furnace of the same nameplate and the same
thickness in the first 3 furnaces; then, test at least once in every 10 furnaces.
A.5.3 HIC test method
HIC test shall adopt Solution A in NACE TM0284. In addition, in accordance with the
requirements in NACE TM0284, conduct tests and issue reports.
If there are any special demands, the demand-side and the supply-side may negotiate
about applicable solution type and H2S partial pressure. In addition, this shall be
clarified in the contract.
A.5.4 Acceptance check standard of HIC test
In accordance with different service conditions of pipeline projects, the demand-side
may select different HIC grades, or, a combination of the grades. HIC performance of
different HIC grades shall comply with the stipulations in Table A.4.

A.6.4 Acceptance check standard of SSC test
After taking SSC sample out of the test medium, under 10-time low-magnification
microscope, examine the sample’s tensile surface. The tensile surface does not allow
any surface cracks, unless it can be proved that these cracks are not caused by sulfide
stress cracking.
A.6.5 SSC re-test
If products are disqualified in the preliminary test, then, randomly take 2 PCS from
steel plates of the same furnace and the same thickness for re-test. If the re-test result
is qualified, then, other steel plates in the same furnace, except from steel plates which
are disqualified in the preliminary test, shall be accepted. If 1 PCS or 2 PCS are
disqualified in the re-test result, then, the whole furnace of steel plates shall be rejected.
Moreover, from the subsequent 2 furnaces, respectively re-take 1 PCS of steel plate
from each furnace for the test: if they are qualified, then, except from the first furnace
of steel plates, which are rejected, the other furnaces of steel plates shall be accepted;
otherwise, all the steel plates shall be rejected.
A.7 SOHIC Test (stress-oriented hydrogen induced cracking)
If the demand-side demands, through the negotiation and agreement between the
demand-side and the supply-side, and statement in the contract, SOHIC test may be
conducted.
A.7.1 After products are qualified in SSC test, take the samples out of the SSC test
medium. In accordance with the requirements in B.4.2.3 in ISO 15156-2, process and
determine the samples for SOHIC test. From every SSC sample, two longitudinal cross
sections shall be taken. On the cross sections, stair-step cracks are not allowed to
emerge, or, cracks shall not exceed 0.5 mm in the samples’ thickness direction.
A.7.2 If products are disqualified in the preliminary test, then, randomly take another 2
steel plates from steel plates of the same furnace and the same thickness; in
accordance with the requirements of SSC test, conduct the re-test. Furthermore, in
accordance with SOHIC test methods, determine the samples. If the re-test result is
qualified, then, other steel plates from the same furnace, except from the steel plates
which are disqualified in the preliminary test, shall be accepted. If 1 PCS or 2 PCS are
disqualified in the re-test result, then, the whole furnace of steel plates shall be rejected.
Moreover, from the subsequent 2 furnaces, respectively re-take 1 PCS of steel plate
from each furnace for the test: if they are qualified, then, except from the first furnace
of steel plates, which are rejected, the other furnaces of steel plates shall be accepted;
otherwise, all the steel plates shall be rejected.
