Aluminum Alloys
NB/T 47018.1 Technical Permission of Welding Materials for Pressure
Equipment - Section 1: General Rule
JB/T 4730.2 Nondestructive Testing of Pressure Equipment - Part 2:
Radiographic Testing
3 Model
3.1 Model division
The model of welding electrodes and rods is divided according to the chemical
composition and use occasions.
4.2.2 The deposited metal radiographic testing for welding electrodes shall be
carried out according to JB/T 4730.2; the radiographic testing technology shall
not be lower than Grade AB and the quality grade of deposited metal is Grade
I.
4.2.3 Flat piled weld inspection shall be carried out for rods; the weld pool
shall be in good flowability and free from splash; the weld bead shape shall be
regular and uniform in width and height; the surface shall be smooth and free
from crack and pore.
4.2.4 Bend test shall be carried out for the deposited metal of welding
electrodes as well as the piled metal of rods. Where the bending sample is
bended to the specified angle, the deposited metal on its stretching plane shall
be free from opening defect with single length longer than 3mm in any direction;
the opening defect on the corner angle of deposited metal on sample shall be
ignored. However, the length of opening defect on corner angle caused by the
incomplete fusion, slag inclusion or other internal imperfection shall be counted.
4.3 Surface quality and uniformity of welding electrodes and rods
4.3.1 The surface of welding electrodes and rods shall be lustrous, smooth
and free from burr, pit, scratch, oxide skin, crack, fold and inclusion. Polished
finish should be carried out.
4.3.2 The reeled welding electrodes shall be continuous and shall ensure the
uniform and continuous feeding for equipment of machine welding, semi-
automatic welding and automatic welding.
4.4 Welding electrodes in accordance with the inspection requirements may
be used as rods without flat deposited weld inspection; the welding electrodes
in accordance with the inspection requirements may only be used as welding
electrodes after passing the deposited metal radiographic testing.
5 Test Methods and Inspection Rules
5.1 Chemical analysis
5.1.1 The chemical composition analysis of welding electrodes and rods shall
be carried out according to batches.
5.1.2 The chemical composition of electrodes or rods in each batch shall meet
the requirements of Table 2. Where other element is found during routine
analysis, further analysis shall be carried out to determine whether its gross
amount exceeds the value specified in Table 2.
Table 4 -- Positional Parameter before Welding Test Piece
5.2.4 Where there is no agreement reached between the parties, the gas
metal arc welding used for test piece shall be carried out according to the
welding process documents provided by the welding material manufacturer.
5.2.5 During the initial welding and welding, the temperature of test piece shall
not be lower than 16℃ while the arcing and inter-pass temperature shall not be
greater than 60℃.
5.3 Flat piled weld inspection for rods
5.3.1 The rods shall be inspected according to batches.
5.3.2 See Table 3 for the base material used in test. As for the dimension of
test piece, the width shall be greater than or equal to 150mm, the length shall
be greater than or equal to 300mm, and the thickness shall meet the
requirements of Article 5.2.3.
5.3.3 Argon tungsten-arc welding shall be adopted for test piece and the AC
power supply shall be weld in flat welding position. Where there is no
agreement reached between the parties, such welding shall be carried out
according to the welding process documents provided by the welding material
manufacturer.
5.3.4 The adopted rods which pass the argon tungsten-arc welding inspection
are also applicable to gas welding and plasma arc welding.
5.4 Bend test
5.4.1 Bend test shall be carried out for welding electrodes and rods according
to batches.
5.4.2 Longitudinal bending sample shall be taken from test pieces of
deposited metal radiographic testing or flat piled weld inspection for rods at the
positions as shown in Figure 2. 1 face-bend sample and 1 back-bend sample
shall be taken from the test piece of deposited metal radiographic testing while
2 face-bend samples shall be taken from the test piece of flat piled welding.
5.4.3 Longitudinal bending sample
5.4.3.1 Cold processing method shall be adopted for sampling. Where hot
processing method is adopted for sampling, the heat affected zone shall be
removed.
5.4.3.2 Welding defect and imperfection may be avoided during sample
preparation.
5.4.3.3 Sample processing:
a) the excess weld metal and base plates shall be removed through cold
processing method;
b) the stretching plane of the sample shall be processed flush and free from
scratch and damage.
5.4.3.4 Sample form:
a) see Figure 3 for the longitudinal bending sample.
