Foreword
This Standard equivalently adopts international standard ISO 7046-2.1990 "Cross recessed
countersunk flat head screws (common head style) - Grade A - Part 2. Steel of property class 8.8,
stainless and non-ferrous metals".
General title of GB/T 819 is "Cross recessed countersunk flat head screws", it includes following
sections.
- Part 1. Steel 4.8 (It shall be revised according to ISO 7046-1.1994, and it shall be published
according to GB/T 819.1);
- Part 2. Steel 8.8, stainless steel A2-70 and non-ferrous metal CU2 or CU3.
This Standard was proposed by the Ministry of Machinery Industry of the People's Republic of
China.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of the National Fasteners Standardization Technical
Committee.
This Standard was responsibly drafted by Machinery Research Institute of Ministry of Machinery
Industry.
ISO Foreword
ISO (International Standardization Organization) is a syndicate consisting of state standard group
(members of ISO) across the world. The formulation of the international standard is made by all technical
committees of ISO. Each member who is interested in projects of certain technical committee can
participate in the committee. Governmental and non-governmental international organizations related
with ISO can also take part in the job. ISO is closely related with IEC in terms of electro-technical
normalization.
International standard draft adopted by technical committee shall be distributed to all member groups for
voting. The official publication of international standards needs at least 75% votes by the member
groups.
International standard ISO 7046-2 was formulated by ISO/TC2 Fasteners Technical Committee.
General title of ISO 7721 "Cross recessed countersunk flat head screws (common head style)
Grade A", it includes following sections.
- Part 1. Property class Steel 4.8 (ISO 7046-1.1994);
- Part 2. Property class Steel 8.8, stainless steel and non-ferrous metals.
ISO Introduction
Insertion depth of cross recessed of countersunk flat head screws
Insertion depth of cross recessed of countersunk flat head screws must meet requirements at 2
aspects. That is, for a given head size, it shall meet the conflicting requirements.
First of all, it requires enough head strength, so as to achieve the ensured load and failure load
specified by various property classes. A shallow cross recessed head can increase the head
strength. On the other hand, screwing performance of the screws shall be satisfactory, which can
only adopt deep-enough cross recessed.
Formulation of ISO 7721-2 is to seek a comprehensive solution to meet the 2 requirements, the
solution shall also consider the long-term requirements as possible.
For low strength countersunk screws, ISO 7721-2 specifies shallow cross recessed. It can achieve
good screwing performance, while the head strength is sufficient. This result shall be used in ISO
7046-1 (see Preface).
For higher strength screws, sufficient head strength can only use the shallow cross recessed
insertion depth. If the screw also requires good screwing performance, then, under the conditions of
universal head, a shoulder must be added under the head, so as to ensure that there is sufficient
head strength and larger insertion depth. ISO 7046 can meet these 2 requirements.
This comprehensive solution, except that the interchangeability of head type of cross recessed
countersunk screw is different, is currently the only way to achieve the international level
agreements.
