This part is Part 2 of GB/T 5008. This part is drafted in accordance with the rules given in the GB/T 1.1-2009. This part replaces GB/T 5008.2-2005 Lead-acid Starter Batteries — Kinds of Products and Specifications and GB/T 5008.3-2005 Lead-acid Starter Batteries — Dimensions and Marking of Terminals in whole. In addition to the fixing method of the battery and the dimension of the tapered terminal, this part has been completely revised with respect to the GB/T 5008.2-2005 and GB/T 5008.3-2005 (the previous edition). The following technical deviations have been made. — addition of Clause 3 Symbols. — modification of Clause 4.“Size and external dimensions of batteries" in the original standard is revised to "model preparation and marking of the polarity of batteries"; and deletion of the original standard "a) battery product specifications fixed on the rubber tank"; addition of some product specifications in sub-clauses b) and c) in the original standard according to China's national conditions and the current use of lead-acid battery products; see the 5.4 China series in this part for details. — addition of 4.1 Model designation. — addition of 4.2 Marking of the polarity. — editorial changes have also been made on Clauses 5 and 6 of the original standard in accordance with the IEC standard, which has been redrafted and modified as Clause 5 of this part. — addition of Clause 5 Classification and Type of Batteries. — addition of 6.2 The dimensions of terminals used in Europe (EU). — addition of 6.3 The dimensions and position of terminals used in North America (AM). Lead-acid Starter Batteries - Part 2.Dimensions of Batteries and Dimensions and Marking of Terminals 1 Scope This part of GB/T 5008 specifies the model designation and marking of the polarity, battery type and classification, battery terminal position, and dimensions and marking of terminals of lead-acid battery for starting. This part is applicable to vented (flooded) lead-acid batteries and valve regulated (gas recombination) batteries used for starting, lighting and ignition of various automobiles, tractors, heavy trucks and other internal combustion engines with a nominal voltage of 12 V (hereinafter referred to as “batteries”). This standard does not apply to batteries used for other purposes, such as batteries for starting railway internal combustion engines. 2 Normative References The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.
