Foreword
All technical contents in this Part are mandatory.
GB 4706 Household and Similar Electrical Appliances – Safety consists of several
parts; Part 1 is general requirements; other parts are particular requirements.
This Part is Part 53 of GB 4706. This Part shall be used in conjunction with GB 4706.1-
2005 Household and Similar Electrical Appliances – Safety - Part 1: General
Requirements.
This Part equivalently adopts IEC 60335-2-84:2005 Household and Similar Electrical
Appliances – Safety – Part 2: Particular Requirements for Toilets, and the Amendment
1.
This Part replaced GB 4706.53-2002 Safety of Household and Similar Electrical
Appliances - Particular Requirements for Toilet.
The part that says "applicable" in this Part means that the corresponding provisions in
GB 4706.1-2005 are applicable to this Part; the part that says "replacement" in this
Part is subject to the provisions in this Part; the part says "addition" means that in
addition to complying with the corresponding provisions in GB 4706.1-2005, it must
also comply with the additional provisions in the provisions of this Part.
Compared with GB 4706.53-2002, this Part has the major changes as follows:
--- 3.1.9 Addition: If warm air is provided for drying, the drying cycle is initiated
immediately after the end of the showering cycle, unless the sequence is
automatic;
--- 7.12.1 Addition: The installation instructions for appliances incorporating water
heaters having bare heating elements shall state the substance of the following:
The resistivity of the water supply must not be less than …. Ωcm;
The appliance must be permanently connected to fixed wiring.
The installation instructions shall indicate that there is a sign that lit cigarettes
and other burning products cannot be put into the toilet, and it shall be fixed in a
prominent position beside the toilet (except the flushing toilet).
--- 13.2 Addition: Water heaters having bare heating elements are tested with water
having the resistivity stated in the instructions.
For water heaters of class I having bare heating elements, the leakage current
is measured between a metal sieve positioned 10 mm from the spray head of
the shower unit and the earthing terminal. The terminals of the heating element
are connected through the selector switch to each pole of the supply in turn, as
shown in Figure 101.
The leakage current shall not exceed 0.25 mA.
--- 16.2 Addition: Water heaters having bare heating elements are tested with water
having the resistivity stated in the instructions.
This Part was proposed by China Light Industry Council.
This Part shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee for
Standardization of Household Appliance (SAC/TC 46).
Chief drafting organizations of this Part: China Household Electric Appliances
Research Institute; and National Quality Supervision and Test Center of Household
Appliances.
Chief drafting staffs of this Part: Lu Jianguo, Zhu Yan, Zhao Weibo, and Sun Peng.
This Part was first-time published in August 2002; it is the first-time revised.
Household and Similar Electrical Appliances
- Safety - Particular Requirements for Toilets
1 Scope
This Clause of GB 4706.1-2005 is replaced by the following.
This Part deals with the safety of electric toilets in which excrement is stored, dried or
destructed, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V.
NOTE 101: Electric toilets may be used to process garbage such as paper and food waste.
This Part also applies to electric equipment for use with conventional toilets.
NOTE 102: Examples of such electric equipment are:
– automatic seat covering devices;
– chopping units;
– heated seats;
– pumping units;
– water heaters for shower units.
Toilets that are not used as general households, but may still pose a danger to the
public. For example, toilets used by non-professional personnel in shops, light
industries, and farms are also within the scope of this Part.
The common hazards of the toilets involved in this Part are encountered by all people
in the house and the surrounding environment of the house.
In general, this Part does not take into account young children playing with the
appliance.
NOTE 103: Attention is drawn to the fact that:
– for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or ships or aircraft, additional requirements
may be necessary;
– additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national
authorities responsible for the protection of labor, the national water supply authorities and
