Road vehicles - Diagnostic connector
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the terms and definitions, general requirements, tests
and requirements, etc. of vehicle diagnostic connector.
This Standard is applicable to Type M and N connectors for external plug-in
vehicle diagnostic equipment.
2 Normative references
The following documents are indispensable for the application of this document.
For the dated references, only the versions with the dates indicated are
applicable to this document. For the undated references, the latest version
(including all the amendments) are applicable to this document.
QC/T 417.1 Road Vehicles - Connections for On-board Electrical Wiring
Harnesses - Part 1. Definitions, Test Methods and General Performance
Requirements (the Automobile Part)
3 Terms and definitions
What defined in QC/T 417.1 and the following terms and definitions are
applicable to this document.
3.1 Diagnostic connector
The short-term connected, pluggable connector used for the communication
between vehicles and external plug-in diagnostic equipment. It consists of two
parts. vehicle connector socket and external plug-in equipment connector plug.
4 General requirements of connector
4.1 Structure, shape, and dimension
The shape and dimension of connector are shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2.
The shape and dimension of plug terminal are shown in Figure 3. When the two
terminals are connected, the terminals of signal “ground” and power supply
“ground” of plug shall, prior to other plug terminals, establish electrical
connection. When disconnecting, only after other terminals are disconnected,
For vehicles which do not use CAN for communication, the use of terminal 6 is
specified by the vehicle manufacturer. But it shall not interfere with the normal
operation of external plug-in equipment or cause damage.
4.2.2.5 Socket terminal 7
For vehicles which use ISO related standards for communication, socket
terminal 7 is assigned to K line for signal connection.
For vehicles which do not use ISO related standards for communication, the
use of terminal 7 is specified by the vehicle manufacturer. But it shall not
interfere with the normal operation of external plug-in equipment or cause
damage.
4.2.2.6 Socket terminal 14
For vehicles which use CAN for communication, socket terminal 14 is assigned
to CAN-L for signal connection.
For vehicles which do not use CAN for communication, the use of terminal 14
is specified by the vehicle manufacturer. But it shall not interfere with the normal
operation of external plug-in equipment or cause damage.
4.2.2.7 Socket terminal 15
For vehicles which use ISO related standards for communication, socket
terminal 15 is assigned to L line for signal connection.
For vehicles which do not use ISO related standards for communication, the
use of terminal 15 is specified by the vehicle manufacturer. But it shall not
interfere with the normal operation of external plug-in equipment or cause
damage.
4.2.2.8 Socket terminal 16
Socket terminal 16 provides voltage for external plug-in equipment to
communicate, and can also be used as reference voltage.
It shall use fuse or other circuit protection elements to protect this connection.
This circuit can be integrated with other circuits. Socket terminal 16 shall be
able to support supply currents of no less than 4.0 A/12 V and 2.0 A/24 V.
4.2.3 Definition of plug terminal
4.2.3.1 Plug terminal 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13
Plug terminal 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13 are reserved for use by
resistance); USE 1 A constant current source to test. The resistance of the 100
mm wire between connection point and measuring point shall be subtracted
from the measured value.
5.3.2.2 Requirement
The connecting resistance shall not exceed 10 mΩ.
5.4 Assembly performance tests and requirements of connector
5.4.1 Insulation resistance between adjacent terminals
5.4.1.1 Test
At a relative humidity of 45%~75%, CONNECT the two parts of the connector;
APPLY 500 V direct current voltage between adjacent terminals; TEST the
insulation resistance between adjacent terminals. During the test, the terminal
connected to the negative terminal of the direct current voltage shall be
grounded.
5.4.1.2 Requirement
The insulation resistance between adjacent terminals shall not be less than 20
MΩ.
5.4.2 Retention force of terminal in sheath
5.4.2.1 Test
At a uniform speed of 50 mm/min, in the direction of center line of terminal,
INCREASE the force, until the terminal is pulled out. The maximum force which
the terminal can withstand is the retention force of the terminal in the sheath.
5.4.2.2 Requirement
The retention force of the terminal in the sheath shall not be less than 80 N.
5.4.3 Plugging-unplugging force of connector
5.4.3.1 Test
ADJUST the speed of force tester to 50 mm/min, in the direction of center line
of connector, to PLUG and UNPLUG; RECORD the maximum force required
for the connector to be plugged in place and completely separated.
5.4.3.2 Requirement
When 16 terminals are used, the plugging force and unplugging force shall
