Foreword
The Annex A, Annex B, and Annex C in this Part are recommendatory; the rest
are compulsory.
GB 567 “Bursting disc safety devices” is divided into four parts.
- Part 1. Basic requirement;
- Part 2. Application,selection and installation;
- Part 3. Classification and mounting dimensions;
- Part 4. Type test.
This Part is part 3 of GB 567.
This Part is drafted according to the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Part replaces GB/T 12353-1999 “Classification and mounting dimensions for
domed metal bursting disc devices” and GB/T 16181-1996 “Bursting disc devices -
Type and outline dimensions for holders”. Compared with GB/T 12353-1999 and GB/T
16181-1996, the main technical changes of this Part are as follows.
- The standard name is changed from “Classification and mounting dimensions for
domed metal bursting disc devices” and “Bursting disc devices - Type and outline
dimensions for holders” into “Bursting disc safety devices - Part 3. Classification
and mounting dimensions”.
- The applicable bursting pressure range of bursting discs in this Part is expanded
from 0.01 MPa ~ 35 MPa to 0.001 MPa ~ 500 MPa;
- ADD the chapter of terms and definitions.
- ADD the flat and graphite bursting discs;
- AMEND and SUPPLEMENT the specifications for classifications, types, and code
names of holders; CHANGE the “Outline dimensions for holders” into the
“Mounting dimensions for holders”;
- ADD Annex A “Classifications, types, and code names of bursting discs”, Annex B
“Classifications, types, and code names of holders”, and Annex C “Mounting
dimensions of bursting disc safety devices”.
Please pay attention to that some of contents in this document may involve patents.

Part 3. Classification and mounting dimensions
1 Scope
1.1 This Part of GB 567 specifies the technical requirements such as classifications,
types, code names, marking methods, and mounting dimensions of bursting disc
safety devices.
1.2 This Part is applicable for the following bursting disc safety devices.
- This Part is applicable for the bursting disc safety devices used by pressure
vessels, pressure pipelines or other sealed pressure-bearing equipment
(hereinafter referred to as pressure-bearing equipment) to prevent over-pressure
or the appearance of excessive vacuum.
- This Part is applicable for the bursting disc safety devices of which the bursting
pressure is not higher than 500 MPa and not lower than 0. 001 MPa.
1.3 This Part is not applicable for the following bursting disc safety devices.
- The pressure-bearing equipment that may appear pressure explosion, and reach
the detonation reaction velocity during the operation process.
- The bursting disc safety devices used in national defense military equipment which
have special requirements.
Note. Phenomenon that is generated very differently from the common burning and explosion
when the burning rate of the material is quickly, above 1 000m/s, is known as detonation.
2 Normative references
The following documents are indispensible for the application of this document. For
the dated reference documents, only dated versions apply to this document. For the
undated reference documents, the latest versions (including all amendments) apply to
this document.

3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions defined by GB 567.1, GB 567.2 AND the following terms and
definitions are applicable for this document.
3.1 Conventional simple domed [Translator. conventional simple domed bursting
discs]
Conventional domed bursting discs of which the bursting discs do not need other
processing and are shaped directly from blank.
3.2 Conventional domed slotted lined bursting disc
Bursting discs that are made up of two layers or more than two layers, one of the layers
is sealing lining, and at least one of the layers is the conventional domed bursting disc
with holes (seams).
3.3 Conventional scored simple domed [Translator. conventional scored simple
domed bursting discs]
Conventional domed bursting discs of which the bursting discs are processed with the
weakening slot.
3.4 Reverse domed with knife blades [Translator. reverse domed with knife blades
bursting discs]
Reverse domed bursting discs of which the bursting discs are fractured because of
touching the blades when it is overturned under the instability condition.
3.5 Counter-arch alligator tooth demolition piece
Reverse domed bursting discs of which the bursting discs are fractured because of
touching the annular alligator tooth when it is overturned under the instability condition.
3.6 Reverse domed scored [Translator. reverse domed scored bursting discs]
Reverse domed bursting discs of which the bursting discs are processed with the
weakening-slot.
3.7 Reverse domed slotted lined bursting disc
Bursting discs that are made up of two layers or more than two layers, one of layers is
the sealing lining, and at least one of layers is the reverse domed bursting disc with
holes (seams).
3.8 Reverse domed having slip or tear-away design [Translator. reverse domed
having slip or tear-away design bursting discs]
Reverse domed bursting discs of which the bursting discs are held in the holders by
the pressing force; under the over-pressure condition, the bursting discs will be
unstable, overturn quickly, slip and pop-up from the holders.
3.9 Counter-arch circlip demolition piece
Reverse domed bursting discs of which the bursting discs are supported in the
supporting ring of holders by circlip and lined with seal lining.
3.10 The counter-arch falls off the demolition piece
The general term of the reverse domed having slip or tear-away design bursting disc
and the counter-arch circlip demolition piece.
3.11 Dull shear pattern demolition piece
Shear pattern demolition pieces of which the bursting discs are made up of one-layer
plate or multi-layer plate.
3.12 Flat slotted lined [Translator. flat slotted lined bursting discs]
Flat bursting discs of which the bursting discs are made up of the flat discs with seam
(hole) and the sealing lining.
3.13 Flat scored [Translator. flat scored bursting discs]
Flat bursting discs of which the bursting discs are processed with the weakening slot
on the flat surface.
3.14 Graphite replaceable element graphite bursting discs
The graphite discs which are mounted and used in conjunction with holders.
3.15 Graphite monoloc graphite bursting discs
The graphite bursting discs which do not need holders and are directly mounted and
used in conjunction with flange.
4 Classifications and types
4.1 Classifications and types of bursting discs
Bursting discs can be divided into the following four classifications from a) to d)
TAKE the first letter of Pinyin [Translator. Chinese Pinyin] of the first word of the critical
words which are used to describe the operating principles or structural features of this
classification of bursting discs as the code name; EXPRESS it in capital; code names
of each classification shall be distinguished.
5.1.1.2 Code names of bursting discs’ classifications shall meet the following
requirements.
a) Conventional domed bursting discs. the code name is L;
b) Reverse domed bursting discs. the code name is Y;
c) Flat bursting discs. the code name is P;
d) Graphite bursting discs. the code name is PM.
5.1.2 Code names of bursting discs’ types
5.1.2.1 Naming principle of code names of bursting discs’ types shall meet the following
requirements.
a) The first letter of code names of bursting discs’ types shall be the code name of
the belonged classification of this type of bursting discs;
b) The second letter of code names of bursting discs’ types shall be the first capital
letter of Pinyin of the first word (or successively) of the cri...
