devices for motor vehicles and their trailers
GB 15766.1 Filament lamps for road vehicles - Dimensional, electrical and
luminous requirements (GB 15766.1-2000, idt IEC 60809:1995)
GB 18100 Provisions for installation of lighting and light-signalling device for
motorcycles
ECE R37 Uniform provisions concerning the approval of filament lamps for use in
approval lamp units of power-driven vehicles and of their trailers
applies to the relevant part of the lighting area illuminated by the unit concerned.
7 Light colors
7.1 The front position lamp shall emit white light; the rear position lamp and stop lamp
shall emit red light; the direction-indicator lamp shall emit amber light; the rear-
registration-plate lamp shall emit white light that does not change the color of the rear
license plate significantly.
7.2 If the rear-registration-plate lamp is combined or grouped with other rear lamps to
form a device, the device shall not directly emit non-red light backward.
7.3 The chromaticity characteristics of various light colors shall comply with the
provisions of GB 4785.
8 Test methods
8.1 The test dark chamber, devices, and equipment shall comply with the provisions of
GB 4599.
8.2 For the device equipped with a replaceable filament lamp, a standard bulb shall be
used in the device during measurement, and it shall work in the state of emitting the test
luminous flux.
8.3 Measurements on devices equipped with several light sources
8.3.1 For devices equipped with mass-produced 6.75 V or 13.5 V replaceable filament
lamps, mass-produced lamps can be used for measurement, and the resulting luminous
intensity values shall be corrected. The ratio of the test luminous flux to the average
value of the luminous flux under the test voltage (6.75 V or 13.5 V) is the correction
factor. The deviation between the actual luminous flux of each filament lamp used and
the average value shall not be greater than ±5%; it is also possible to use standard lamps
working in the test luminous flux state to measure at the position of each lamp one by
one, and then add the results of the individual measurements.
8.3.2 In the occasions where non-replaceable light sources or other light sources are
installed, the measurement shall be carried out according to the voltage specified by the
manufacturer, and the manufacturer shall provide a dedicated power supply device
when necessary.
8.4 For all devices that are not equipped with filament lamps, the luminous intensity
shall be measured 1 min and 30 min after lighting, and the results shall meet the
requirements of the maximum and minimum values in Table 1. The luminous intensity
of each measurement point at 1 min after lighting can be calculated from the luminous
intensity at 30 minutes after lighting, and the conversion factor is the ratio of the
luminous intensity of the HV point at 1 min and 30 min after lighting. For the direction-
indicator lamp, it shall be measured in the blinking state (1.5 Hz, the ratio of the light-
on time to the time of the whole process of one blink is 50%).
8.5 The initial measurement position of the device is determined according to the
reference axis and reference center specified by the manufacturer.
8.6 The measurement distance shall make the photometric Inverse Square Law
applicable.
8.7 Viewed from the reference center, the opening angle of the light receiver shall be in
the range of 10' to 1°.
8.8 The angular deviation of each measurement direction shall not be greater than 15'.
8.9 Before the measurement, the device shall be fully pre-burned, so that its light
performance tends to be stable.
8.9.1 Normally, the photometric value shall be measured when the light source is
continuously on;
8.9.2 For lamps with flickering work, overheating shall be avoided during the
measurement. If due to the limitation of the device structure, it is allowed to measure
under the flickering state, for example, in the situation that light-emitting diodes (LED)
are used, or only intermittent working can avoid overheating.
If so, the on-off state must be switched at a frequency of f = (1.5±0.5) Hz, the
measurement shall be carried out at 95% of the peak luminous intensity, and the pulse
duration shall be greater than 0.3 s.
In lamps equipped with replaceable filament lamps, the filament lamps must be lighted
at the test luminous flux. In all other cases, the voltage specified in 8.2 and 8.3 shall be
used, and the voltage rise time and fall time shall not exceed 0.01 s.
In the case of scintillation measurements, the final measurement result shall be the
maximum luminous intensity during the measurement.
8.10 The luminance of the rear-registration-plate lamp is measured on a colorless
diffuse surface with known diffuse reflectance. The size of the colorless diffuse surface
is the same as the size of the license plate or larger than the size required for the
measurement point. During measurement, its center shall be positioned at the center of
the measurement point. The colorless diffuse surface shall be placed where the license
plate shall normally be, and 2 mm in front of the bracket. The luminance shall be
measured perpendicular to the diffuse surface, allowing a 5° deviation in any direction
of the measurement points shown in Figure 6, and the measurement point is a circle
with a diameter of 25 mm. Luminance measurement results shall be corrected by a
correction factor that corrects the diffuse reflectance to 1.0.
8.11 Light source A (the color temperature is 2856 K) shall be used for chromaticity
inspection. For lamps using non-replaceable light sources, measurements shall be
carried out at the voltage of 6.75 V or 13.5 V. For parts outside the angle range of
luminous intensity distribution, it is necessary to visually observe whether there is a
sharp change in color.
8.12 Visually observe the color change of the license plate when the rear-registration-
plate lamp is illuminated.
9 Inspection rules
9.1 The different types of devices shall be judged according to the regulations in
Chapter 5.
9.2 The device shall undergo type inspection and production consistency inspection. If
it complies with the corresponding regulations in 9.3 or 9.4, it is considered that the
device has passed the type inspection or production consistency inspection.
9.3 Type inspection
9.3.1 The manufacturer shall provide:
9.3.1.1 Purpose of the device.
9.3.1.2 For the direction-indicator lamp, the type shall be stated.
9.3.1.3 Three copies of drawings that are sufficient to identify the type of device, and
indicate the reference axis (H=0°, V=0°), reference center, and geometric position for
installation on the vehicle; if there are different installation situations or installation
locations, they shall be specified, including:
9.3.1.3.1 Different installation angles of the installation position of the device on the
vehicle relative to the reference axis of the vehicle reference plane;
9.3.1.3.2 Different angles of the device relative to the ground;
9.3.1.3.3 Different angles of rotation relative to the reference axis of the device itself;
9.3.1.3.4 For the rear registration plate illuminating device, the device is allowed to be
at multiple installation positions relative to the area where the rear registration plate to
be illuminated is placed.
9.3.1.4 A concise technical specification. Except for devices where the light source
