1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, requirements, test methods,
inspection rules and marking, packaging, transportation, and storage of
denatured fuel ethanol.
This standard applies to the fuel ethanol which is produced by using such raw
materials as starch, sugar, cellulose and so on through fermentation, distillation,
and dehydration, AND denatured by adding the denaturant.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1
Fuel ethanol
It refers to the ethanol to which no denaturant is added AND which can be
used as fuel.
3.2
Denaturant
It refers to the ethanol gasoline blending component oil or ethanol gasoline
for motor vehicles which is added into the fuel ethanol to make it inedible.
3.3
Denatured fuel ethanol
It refers to the fuel ethanol to which the denaturant is added for the purposes
of blending the ethanol gasoline for motor vehicles.
4 Requirements
4.1 Major raw material requirements
4.1.1 Fuel ethanol
The density of the fuel ethanol at 20 °C shall be in the range of 0.7918 g/cm3 ~
0.7893 g/cm3.
4.2 Technical requirements
4.2.1 Addition of denaturant
The volume fraction of the fuel ethanol and the denaturant shall be 100.1 ~
100.5, that is, the volume fraction of the denaturant in the denatured fuel ethanol
is 0.99% ~ 4.76%.
4.2.2 Metal corrosion inhibitors
It shall add in the effective metal corrosion inhibitor to comply with the stripe
copper corrosion requirements of the ethanol gasoline for motor vehicles.
4.2.3 Physical and chemical indicators
The physical and chemical indexes of denatured fuel ethanol shall comply with
the requirements of Table 1.
5 Test method
5.1 Density of fuel ethanol
The density of the fuel ethanol is measured at 20 °C in accordance with the
density bottle method in GB/T 611-2006 OR the digital density metering method
in GB/T 4472.
5.2 Denatured fuel ethanol
5.2.1 Appearance
At indoor ambient temperature, TAKE 50 mL of the sample in a 100 mL
colorimetric tube; MAKE visual observation in bright light.
5.2.2 Ethanol
It is determined in accordance with the method in Appendix A.
5.2.3 Methanol
It is determined in accordance with the method in Appendix A.
5.2.8 Copper
It is determined in accordance with the method in Appendix E.
5.2.9 pHe
It is determined in accordance with the method in Appendix F.
5.2.10 Sulfur
It is determined in accordance with SH/T 0689 or SH/T 0253.AND the method
in SH/T 0689 is the arbitration method.
6 Inspection rules
6.1 Batch
Products are accepted in batches. The products packed in tank or tanker shall
form a batch by each tank or tanker. If this definition is not used, the definition
of batch shall be determined by the both parties of the contract through
negotiation.
6.2 Sampling
6.2.1 Sampling method
6.2.2 Sampling amount
TAKE 2 L of sample from each batch; MIX it uniformly; respectively CONTAIN
it into two 1 L narrow-mouthed reagent glass bottle; MAKE it labelled and
indicated of the following information.
6.3 Inspection classification
6.3.1 Exit-factory inspection
6.3.2 Type inspection
6.3.2.1 Type inspection items are all physical and chemical requirements in
Table 1.
6.3.2.2 Type inspection shall be carried out once every six months AND it shall
also be carried out in any of the following cases.
6.4 Determination rules
6.4.1 When any one item of the exit-factory inspection results fails to comply
with the requirements of this standard, it shall double the samples from the
original sampling batch for reinspection,
6.4.2 Determination rules of type inspection are same as the exit-factory
inspection.
7 Marking, packaging, transportation, and storage
7.1 Marking
7.1.1 The tanker or tank car containing the products shall be indicated of the
product name “denatured fuel ethanol” and the manufacturer's name, as well
as the clear warning sign “Inedible”.
7.2 Packaging
7.2.1 It shall be packaged in a special purpose tanker or tank car. Before being
packaged, it shall perform strict safety, cleanliness, water-free, and sealing
inspection against the vessels used.
7.3 Transport
7.3.1 The means of transport (including tank cars or tankers, etc.) shall be clean
and free of water. AND it is not allowed to mix it with other inflammable,
explosive, or corrosive substances during packaging and transport.
7.3.2 It shall avoid the inhalation of external water during transport.
7.3.3 The exhaust pipe of a transport vehicle shall be fitted with a flame arrester,
it shall be equipped with fire extinguishing equipment AND shall have anti-static
facilities.
