Foreword
NB/T 47018-2017 Technical Permission of Welding Materials for Pressure
Equipment can be divided into 5 Parts:
--- Part 1: General Rule;
--- Part 2: Electrodes for Steel;
--- Part 3: Steel Electrodes and Rods for Gas Shielded Arc Welding;
--- Part 4: Electrodes and Fluxes or Submerged Arc Welding;
--- Part 5: Stainless-Steel Strip Electrodes and Fluxes for Overlay Welding.
This Part is the Part 4 of NB/T 47018-2017.
This Part was drafted as per the rules specified in GB/T 1.1-2009 Directives for
Standardization – Part 1: Structure and Drafting of Standards.
This Part revised NB/T 47018.4-2011 Technical Permission of Welding Materials for
Pressure Equipment - Part 4: Electrodes and Fluxes for Submerged Arc Welding.
Compared with NB/T 47018.4-2011, the major technical changes of this Part are as
follows:
--- Add the batch number and inspection requirements of flux and welding wire to
the quality certificate of the welding material;
--- Specify the phosphorus and sulfur content for welding wire and flux;
--- Add F310-HXXX, F316CuL-HXXX, F317-HXXX to the models of stainless-steel
flux;
--- Add the specified lower limit of the elongation after break of the deposited metal
tensile specimen;
--- Allow the use of transverse bending specimens in the bending test; and add the
provisions of increasing the bend diameter for retesting;
--- Delete the provisions of the water content for carbon steel and low-alloy steel
fluxes; and add the provisions for the determination of the diffusible hydrogen
content of deposited metals in submerged arc welding;
--- Delete the original Appendix A " Designations of commonly used steel wire and
filler wire for submerged arc welding for pressure equipment".
This Part was proposed by and under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee
Technical Permission of Welding Materials for
Pressure Equipment Section 4: Electrodes and Fluxes
for Submerged Arc Welding
1 Scope
This Part of NB/T 47018-2017 specifies the technical requirements, test methods and
product marking of welding wire and flux for submerged arc welding.
This Part is applicable to carbon steel welding wire and flux, low-alloy steel welding
wire and flux, and stainless-steel welding wire and flux for submerged arc welding for
pressure equipment.

3 Technical Requirements
3.1 General rules
3.1.1 In addition to complying with the provisions of GB/T 5293-1999, GB/T 12470-
2003, GB/T 17854-1999, the welding wire and flux for carbon steel, low-alloy steel,
stainless steel submerged arc welding for pressure equipment shall also comply with
the provisions of NB/T 47018.1 and this Part.
3.1.2 The quality certificate of welding materials for submerged arc welding for
pressure equipment shall contain the following contents:
a) The batch number of flux and the batch number of matched welding wire, as well
as the inspection results of welding wire inspection, flux inspection and deposited
metal after assembly welding;
b) For carbon steel and low-alloy steel flux, the type of flux (neutral, active) should
be indicated.
3.1.3 The batch number of the welding wire and flux for submerged arc welding for
pressure equipment shall be the same as that of the quality certificate in accordance
with 3.1.2. When the batch number of welding wire and/or flux is different from the
content of the quality certificate, it can be checked according to the quality assurance
system of this organization; and the technical requirements shall be no lower than that
of this Standard; and it can be used for welding the pressure equipment only after
being qualified.
3.2 Welding wire
The carbon steel, low-alloy steel welding wire for submerged arc welding should have
a sulfur content of no more than 0.015% and a phosphorus content of no more than
0.020%; While the stainless-steel welding wires should have a sulfur content of no
more than 0.015% and a phosphorus content of no more than 0.025%.
3.3 Flux
The flux should have a sulfur content of no more than 0.035% and a phosphorus
content of no more than 0.040%.
3.4 Chemical composition of deposited metal of submerged arc welding
materials
After the welding wire and flux for commonly used submerged arc welding of pressure
equipment are welded, see Table 1 for the sulfur and phosphorus content of the
deposited metal.
