Air hoists
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, types and basic parameters, technical
requirements, test method, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation and
storage of air hoists.
This standard applies to air hoists used in general environments, explosive gas
environments, explosive dust environments. Air hoists used in other special
environments can make reference to this document.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1
Air hoist
A hoist that is composed of an air motor, a reducer, a brake, a winch, etc., which
finally winds up the lifting rope through reel or winds up the lifting chain through
sprocket, to drive the lifting device up and down.
3.2
Air wire rope hoist
Air hoist with wire rope as the reeling flexible part.
4 Type and basic parameters
4.1 Type
4.1.1 Type classification
According to whether the air hoist has an operating mechanism and the type of
operating mechanism, it can be divided into fixed air hoist, single-beam trolley air hoist,
double-beam trolley air hoist.
4.1.2 Fixed type
A fixed air hoist without an operating mechanism. According to the different installation
methods, it is divided into two types (see Figure 1 and Figure 2).
4.1.3 Single beam trolley type
An air hoist with a running mechanism that runs along a single beam track. The driving
type of the running mechanism can be set according to user requirements, such as air
motor or sprocket hand pull, hand push drive, etc. (see Figure 3 and Figure 4).
4.2 Basic parameters
4.2.1 Working level
The working level of the air hoist lifting mechanism is divided into 8 levels from M1
to M8 according to the provisions of GB/T 3811, based on the load state level and
mechanism load spectrum coefficient, use level, and total use time, as shown in Table
1.

4.2.4 Lifting speed
The lifting speed shall preferably adopt the values specified in Table 4; the slow speed
is recommended to be 1/2 ~ 1/10 of the fast speed. The winding line speed of the
explosion-proof air hoist wire rope and drum or chain and sprocket shall not be greater
than 25 m/min.
4.2.6 Running speed
The running speed shall preferably adopt the value specified in Table 5; the slow speed
is recommended to be 1/2 ~ 1/10 of the fast speed. The running speed of the explosion-
proof air hoist trolley on the track shall not exceed 25 m/min.
5 Technical requirements
5.1 Working environment conditions
5.1.1 The air pressure fluctuation range of the air hoist’s air supply source shall not
exceed ±10% of the rated air pressure.
5.1.2 The quality grade of the gas medium shall meet the requirements of Table 4 in
JB/T 5967-2007 for the quality grade of the air medium of heavy-duty pneumatic
motors.
5.2 Basic requirements
The design of air hoists shall meet the relevant provisions of GB/T 3811, GB 6067.1
and this standard.
5.3 Use performance
5.3.1 Air hoists of corresponding working levels shall be reasonably selected according
to the use level and load state in use (see Table 1). The working level of explosion-proof
air hoists shall not exceed A.5.
5.3.5 Air hoists with running mechanisms shall be able to meet the following
performance requirements under rated air pressure and rated load.
5.3.6 Under rated load, when the lifting speed is less than or equal to 0.5 m/min, the
lifting mechanism’s braking slippage shall not be greater than 5 mm; when the lifting
speed is greater than 0.5 m/min, the lifting mechanism’s braking slippage shall not be
greater than v/100 (v is the stable lifting distance within 1 min under rated air pressure
and rated load); meanwhile it shall not be greater than 200 mm.
5.4 Safety and hygiene
5.4.1 For air hoists with a rated lifting capacity of 1 t ~ 10 t, the lifting mechanism shall
be equipped with a safety clutch; for air hoists with a rated lifting capacity greater than
10 t, the lifting mechanism shall be equipped with a safety clutch or the air hoist body
shall be limited in air pressure to prevent overloading. The load limit value shall be
within the range of 1.1 ~ 1.3 times the rated lifting capacity.
5.4.6 Where there are more than two air hoists on the same track, anti-collision buffer
devices shall be installed between the air hoists.
5.4.7 The operating mechanism shall run smoothly without abnormal noise.
5.4.8 Air hoists shall be equipped with normally closed working brakes; the brake safety
factor shall meet the following requirements.
5.4.9 When the safety brake is set, its function shall meet the following requirements.
When the transmission component fails or the working brake fails and causes the load
to fall, it shall be able to reliably support the rated load.
5.5 Main components
5.5.1 Pneumatic motor
The performance of the pneumatic motor shall meet the requirements of JB/T 7737.
5.5.2 Hook
5.5.2.1 The mechanical properties of the hook shall comply with the provisions of GB/T
10051.1.
5.5.2.2 The rated lifting capacity shall be marked in a conspicuous place on the lower
hook device; an anti-unhooking device shall be installed. The lower hook shall rotate
flexibly within 360° of the horizontal plane.
5.8.3 Mechanical explosion-proof requirements
5.8.3.1 In order to prevent sparks and dangerous temperatures caused by mechanical
friction or collision, the exposed parts of the explosion-proof air hoist with relative
friction movement shall adopt speed limit measures or other explosion-proof measures,
such as the winding line speed of the wire rope and drum or the chain and sprocket and
the running speed of the explosion-proof air hoist trolley on the track shall not exceed
25 m/min.
6 Test methods
6.1 Test conditions
6.1.1 Test environment requirements
The test environment shall comply with the provisions of 5.1.
6.1.2 Requirements for main test instruments and measuring tools
The testing instruments and measuring tools shall be qualified and within the calibration
cycle. The requirements for accuracy and range are as follows.
6.2 Test method
6.2.1 General inspection
General inspection shall include the following.
6.2.2 No-load test
6.2.2.1 Under rated air pressure, perform no-load operation on the test bench; lift and
lower for no less than two cycles; perform the test in accordance with the provisions of
6.2.2.2 ~ 6.2.2.7.
6.2.3 Measuring the minimum hook spacing (Hmin)
After raising the lower hook to the upper limit position, measure the minimum hook
spacing of the air hoist according to the marked position of Hmin in Figure 7.
6.2.5.2 Determination of brake sliding amount
As shown in Figure 8, before the test, connect an auxiliary solenoid valve (normally
closed) in series to the air inlet of the air hoist; connect the micro switch in series to the
electrical circuit of the solenoid valve.
6.2.5.3 Determination of lifting and lowering speed
When the lifting (or lowering) speed is stable, use a stopwatch to measure the lifting
(or lowering) distance within 10 seconds, or take a fixed distance and measure the time
required; calculate the lifting (or lowering) speed. Measure four times in a row and take
the average value.
6.2.5.4.3 Running trolley climbing test
The air hoist reciprocates three times on a track with a slope of 1/200; each one-way
stroke is at least 2 m, to check whether it can work normally.
If the test is on a horizontal track, a force shall be applied in the opposite direction of
the running; its magnitude shall be equal to 1/200 of the sum of the mass of the air hoist
and the rated load.
6.2.9 Dynamic load test
Under the conditions of rated air pressure and test load of 1.1 times rated load,
continuous operation shall be carried out in accordance with the cycle period in
Appendix A, which shall not be less than 30 minutes. For air hoists with running trolleys,
the trolleys shall run back and forth for 10 cycles continuously; the single-way running
distance of each cycle shall not be less than 2 m.
6.2.11 Appearance coating quality
6.2.11.1 Paint film thickness
Measure the paint film thickness at 10 points on the painted surface of the air hoist with
a paint film thickness gauge; take the average value.
6.2.11.2 Paint film adhesion
The test method of paint film adhesion shall comply with the provisions of GB/T 9286.
6.2.12 Explosion-proof performance test
The air hoist shall be started and braked three times under no-load and rated load
conditions without light, to observe whether there is sparking.
7 Inspection rules
7.1 Inspection classification
The inspection of air hoists is divided into exit-factory inspection, type inspection, life
test.
7.2 Exit-factory inspection
7.3 Type inspection
7.3.1 Type inspection shall be carried out for any of the following conditions.
7.3.2 The inspection items of type inspection are shown in Table 8.
7.4 Life test
Life test shall be carried out when new products are trial-produced. The test method is
shown in 6.2.10; the test requirements are shown in 5.7.
8 Marking, packaging, transportation, storage
8.1 Marking
Each air hoist shall be equipped with a sign in a conspicuous position; its requirements
shall comply with the provisions of GB/T 13306.The following information shall be
indicated on the label at least.
8.2 Packaging
8.2.1 The packaging of air hoists shall comply with the provisions of GB/T 13384.
8.2.2 Each product shall include at least the following accompanying documents.
8.3 Transportation and storage
8.3.1 The transportation of air hoists shall comply with the relevant transportation
requirements of railways, roads, shipping.
8.3.2 When storing air hoists, the parts shall be properly kept; attention shall be paid to
rust prevention, moisture prevention, ventilation, deformation prevention.
