This Standard was drafted as per the rules specified in GB/T 1.1-2009. This Standard replaced GB/T 6653-2008 Steel Plates and Strips for Welded Gas Cylinders. Compared with GB/T 6653-2008, this Standard has the major technical
changes as follows. --- Modify the requirements for chemical compositions; --- Modify the requirements for impact performance; --- Modify the requirements for non-metallic inclusions; --- Modify the requirements for surface quality.
This Standard was proposed by China Iron and Steel Industry Association.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee for
Standardization of Steel (SAC/TC 183).

1 Scope
This Standard specifies the dimension, shape, weight and permissible deviation, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, package, mark and quality certificate of steel plates and strips for welded gas cylinders.
This Standard is applicable to the hot-rolled steel plates and strips with thickness of 2.0mm~14.0mm, and cold-rolled steel plates and strips with thickness of 1.5mm~4.0mm used for the welded gas cylinder.

3 Expression Method of Grade
The grade of steel consists of two parts, namely, the initial of Chinese Pinyin “welded
cylinder” of “HP”, and lower limit of lower yield strength.
Example. HP295, thereof.
HP - the initial of Chinese Pinyin “welded cylinder”;
295 – the lower limit of lower yield strength of steel, in MPa.

6.1.5, 6.6 and 6.7.4 of this Standard are recommendatory; the rest are
mandatory.
This Standard is the revision to GB 6653-1994 "Steel Plates for Pressure Vessels",
with reference to ISO 4978.1983 "Flat Rolled Steel Products for Welded Gas
Cylinders", EN 10120.1996 "Steel Sheet and Strip for Welded Gas Cylinders" and JIS
G 3116.2005 "Steel Sheet, Plates and Strip for Gas Cylinders"; and combined with the
actual conditions of manufacturers and customer use situation in China.
This Standard replaces GB 6653-1994 "Steel Plates for Pressure Vessels", from the
implementation date.
Compared with GB 6653-1994, the main changes of this Standard are as follows.
— Standard name was modified;
— Thickness dimension range was extended;
— Delete the designations HP 245 and HP 365; add the designation HP 235;
— The chemical composition and mechanical property of each designation were
adjusted;
— Smelting process of open hearth was deleted;
— Requirements for non-metallic inclusion are modified.
This Standard was proposed by China Iron and Steel Association.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee on
Iron and Steel of Standardization Administration of China.

Steel Plates and Strips for Welded Gas Cylinders
1 Scope
This Standard specifies dimensions, shape, weight, permissible tolerances, technical
requirements, test methods, inspection rules, package, marking and quality certificate
of steel plates and strips for welded gas cylinders.
This Standard is applicable to hot rolled steel plates and strip with a thickness of 2.0
mm ~ 14.0 mm, and cold rolled steel plate and strip with a thickness of 1.5 mm ~ 4.0
mm which are intended for welded gas cylinders.
