1 Scope
This Standard specifies the test method for oil content of man-made fiber. extraction
method (Method A), neutral soap solution washing method (Method B), optical
refractive index method (Appendix A), nuclear magnetic resonance method (Appendix
B), rapid extrusion method (Appendix C).
This Standard is applicable to polyester (dacron), polyamide (chinlon), polyacrylonitrile
(acrylic), polypropylene (polypropylene), polyvinyl formal (vinylon), regenerated
cellulose fiber (rayon); other type of man-made fibers can refer to.

3 Terms and Definitions
The terms and definitions stipulated in GB/T 3291.1, GB/T 3291.3, GB/T 4146 (all parts)
are applicable to this document.
4 Sampling Rules
The extraction of samples shall be as per the following requirements; don’t extract
packages that have been exposed to moisture, contamination, abrasion or have been
opened.
5 Test Methods
5.1 Method A – Extraction Method (arbitration test method)
5.1.1 General
When the extractant or extraction method is not suitable for a certain fiber or certain
type of oiling agent, the test procedure shall be modified. Any modification shall be
stated in the test report.
5.1.2 Principle
Since the oiling agent can be dissolved in a specific organic solvent, use the fat
extractor to extract oiling agent from the specimen of organic solvent; vaporize the
solvent; weigh the mass of residual oiling agent and mass of fiber after treatment, then
calculate the oil content of the specimen.
5.1.3 Reagents and materials
5.1.4 Apparatus
The apparatus used in this method is as follows.
5.1.5 Specimen preparation
Take 2 specimens, take about 5g of staple fiber for each specimen, accurate to 0.01g;
the filaments are wound together to ensure that each package is taken and evenly cut.
take about 7g of pre-oriented yarns and draw yarns, accurate to 0.01g; take about 4g
of textured yarn, accurate to 0.01g.
5.1.6 Test procedures
5.6.1.4 Use tweezers to take out the specimen from the withdrawal cylinder of the fat
extractor; use tweezers to remove the solvent off the specimen; take off the distillation
flask; recycle the solvent.
5.6.1.5 Re-set the temperature of constant temperature water bath to be 90°C; place

The oil content of the specimen shall be calculated as per Formula (1).
5.2 Method B – neutral soap solution washing method
5.2.1 Scope
This Method is applicable to the determination of oil content for filament of man-made
fiber. It is not applicable to the chinlon 6 filament, and spandex filament.
5.2.2 Principle
Use the affinity nature between the soap solution and oiling agent, under the role of
washing power, the oiling agent on the specimen shall be transferred to the soap
solution. Calculate the oil content according to the mass change before and after the
specimen washing.
5.2.5 Specimen preparation
The same as 5.1.5.
5.2.6 Test procedures
5.2.6.1 Determination of specimen mass before treatment
Place the specimen into the specimen bag; weigh the mass of specimen bag
(containing the specimen); subtract the known washing and drying mass of the
specimen bag; the obtain the mass m1 of each specimen before washing, accurate to
0.1mg.
5.2.6.2 Washing

Appendix A specifies the optical refractive index method.
